Welcome to Auckland Airport. After clearing Customs and Immigrations and collecting your luggage, pick up your

| Day Notes Auckland – Rotorua via Hobbiton (240km - approx. 3 hrs)

After leaving the motorway south of Auckland, the Waikato River will accompany you for much of your journey

through the green countryside. Places of interest along the way include the wine growing area of Te Kauwhata

and the coal mining town of Huntly. One of the most popular stops enroute to Rotorua is the Hobbiton Movieset.

The Hobbiton Movieset displays the amazing sets of the Shire, such as Hobbit holes, gardens, the Green Dragon

and the festive tree, located in an unspoiled grassy scenery. You embark on a guided tour and get to see the set

up close!

Your destination is Rotorua, which sits directly on the Pacific Ring of Fire volcanic activity, and thus is a part of the

city both in the past and the present. Explore the geothermal areas and discover the unique culture of the Maoris,

the indigenous people of New Zealand. Rotorua is always worth a trip in any weather.

Mitai Maori Village you can treat yourself to Maori cuisine with a traditionally cooked Hangi meal, enjoy

traditional songs and learn the haka (war dance), plus listen to the time honoured legends of yesteryear.

| Expert Tips The Rainbow Springs Nature Park hosts New Zealand’s largest and most successful kiwi conservation center.

Visitors to Rainbow Springs can enjoy a special 'behind the scenes' tour of the Hatchery to see real kiwi

conservation in action. Learn all about the efforts of our kiwi husbandry team, discover what it takes to hatch a

chick... and if you're really lucky, see baby chicks in person! Some visitors may have the chance to witness the Kiwi

chicks getting a health check, being weighted or fed - the routine usually takes place in the morning.

Te Puia Optional: Te Puia is New Zealand’s living Maori cultural centre,

located just 5 minutes from central Rotorua. Situated in the

Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, Te Puia’s 60 hectare site is

home to the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, a live

kiwi enclosure, the world-famous Pohutu Geyser, and more than

500 geothermal wonders. With land steeped in ancestral history,

and a guiding legacy that stretches back to the 1800s, Te Puia

extend their unique hospitality and rich cultural heritage to all visitors.

Hells Gate Geothermal Park and Mud Spa

Optional: Hells Gate Geothermal Park and Mud Spa features

boiling hot pools and erupting waters with temperatures in

excess of 100 degrees Celsius, steaming fumaroles, hot water

lakes, sulphur crystals and deposits, New Zealand's largest active

mud volcano, the southern hemisphere's largest hot waterfall

and even examples of land coral. See, feel and understand the

awe of Irish Playwright, George Bernard Shaw as he gazed upon

the land and gave it the English name "Hellsgate" as he believed he had arrived at the gates to Hell. A primeval

setting displaying the awesome raw power of the earth and it’s geothermal nature. Be amazed by the unique

geothermal mud of the Hells Gate geothermal park, the black geothermal mud used for more than a century in

the treatment of arthritis and rheumatism, the ice cold white geothermal mud that changes it’s form from solid to

liquid and back again that used for the relief of burns, as well as the warm silky grey geothermal mud that gently

exfoliates the skin. Follow the footsteps of warriors old, through the swirling clouds of steam, past the pool where

the Maori Princess Hurutini lost her life for her people. See the violent geothermal activity of the Inferno with two

erupting pools aptly named Soddam and Gomorra by George Bernard Shaw. Then on to the Kakahi Hot Water Fall,

where warriors would return after battle to remove the Tapu of war and heal their wounds at the only Maori

owned geothermal area in New Zealand.

Mitai Maori Village

Optional: Mitai Maori Village is situated a 5 minute drive from

the centre of town in Rotorua. Be enthralled by the natural bush

setting, see warriors in traditional dress paddle an ancient

warrior canoe (waka) down the Wai-o-whiro stream, and don’t

miss the only opportunity in the Rotorua area to see glow worms

in their natural habitat. Be captivated by the displays of

weaponry and combat, coupled with the grace and beauty of the

poi dance. The Mitai family is proud to have created a sacred and spiritual place that offers an indigenous cultural

experience like no other.

Rainbow Springs Nature Park

Optional: Located in Rotorua, New Zealand, Rainbow Springs

Nature Park offers visitors a fun-filled experience amidst nature.

The park is home to a variety of bird species which include kiwis,

parrots, kea and kaka, as well as reptiles such as geckos and

skinks. Visitors are able to explore the park with a knowledgeable

and passionate guide. The park features many fun-filled and

informative activities for the whole family which includes a 9-

minute water ride. The park is also home to the National Kiwi Hatchery Aotearoa which is the largest kiwi hatchery

in the world.

Resting at the northern end of Lake Taupo and surrounded by magnificent bush clad mountains, the tidy town of

Taupo is distinguished by its picturesque lakefront setting and its excellent opportunities for outdoor activities

including sailing, cruising, kayaking, waterskiing, fishing, and snow skiing on the slopes of the towering Mount

Ruapehu. The town is surrounded by some exceptional natural attractions such as the dramatic crystal-blue

cascades of the Huka Falls, which can be reached via a number of popular hiking and biking trails. Other highlights

include wonderful geothermal pools and the Waipahihi Botanical Reserve. Those seeking more of a cultural

experience can head to the lovely Lake Taupo Museum and Art Gallery which features exhibits on the Maori,

Volcanic and early European history of the area.

| Day Notes Rotorua - Taupo (80km - approx. 1 hrs)

The road to Taupo will keep you entertained with its unusual, volcanic geography. Take a side road to a

geothermal park, where you’ll discover geysers, silica terraces and craters of boiling mud. Your first stop is Wai-O-

Tapu, the most colourful and famous geothermal park in the area. Make sure to be there in the morning in order

to witness the daily eruption of the Lady knox geysir!

Other diversions along the short way to Taupo include Huka Falls and a world-acclaimed golf course. Towards the

end of your journey you’ll encounter the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station. Taupo sits on the edge of New

Zealand’s largest lake, which is well stocked with sizeable trout. Most accommodation establishments make good

use of the underground thermal activity to provide hot spas for relaxation.

At Taupo marina, you jump on board of a sailing vessel and cruise across Lake Taupo to the famous Maori Rock

carvings, only accessible by water!

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland

Planned: Thousands of years in the making and nestled within a

natural bush setting, walks through this unique volcanic area

take between 30 and 75 minutes. The Lady Knox Geyser erupts

daily to heights of up to 20 metres. Features include the world

famous Champagne Pool and Primrose Terrace as well as hot

springs, steaming ground, expansive vistas and huge volcanic

craters. The constant bubbling and erupting of the Mud Pool add

to your experience at New Zealand’s most colourful volcanic attraction.

Huka Falls

Information: The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato

River, near Taupo on New Zealand's North Island and it is also

the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand. The Waikato

river is one of New Zealand's longest rivers and it drains Lake

Taupo - the largest freshwater lake in all of Australasia.

The name Huka is the Maori word for 'foam', which is

appropriate as the falling water and rapids certainly resembles foam, especially under flooding Around 220,000

litres per second of pours over the cliff face, and then rushes under a pedestrian bridge. The water then bursts out

of its rapids, over the 11 metre falls, and back into the Waikato River.

Sail Fearless Lake Cruise to Maori Carvings

Planned: It’s not only the clear blue water, fresh air, surrounding

volcanoes and green mountains that make Lake Taupo such a

favourite among locals and foreigners; friendly, bustling towns,

excellent trout fishing and a number of great outdoor adventure

activities ensure visitors flock to the area, especially in high

summer. For high flyers there’s skydiving and bungy jumping,

water lovers can take a cruise to view giant Maori carvings, hire a

jetboat or sightsee via a floatplane, and avid cyclist have plenty of trail options. Visit Tongariro National Park,

marvel at Huka Falls, or simply relax near to the lake, drinking in the perfect sights and sounds.

The popular tourist city of Napier on the eastern coast of New Zealand’s North Island is one of the country’s most

likeable regional centres. The inner-city streets are lined with palm trees, and the sculpted Marine Parade is

strewn with numerous lush parks, landscaped gardens and grand memorials, giving the water’s edge its unique

character. Arriving in Napier gives one the distinct feeling of stepping back in time, owing to its unique

concentration of remarkably well preserved 1930s art-deco buildings, built after much of the city was destroyed in

a massive earthquake in 1931. The city is also known for its gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers and its abundance

of world-class wineries on the surrounding plains. This is the place to enjoy a Mediterranean climate, an excellent

variety of restaurants and cafes, and the air of an affluent English seaside resort.

| Day Notes Taupo - Napier (140km - approx. 1 ¾ hrs)

The major entertainment on the road from Taupo to Napier is the fantastic scenery. There’s a bit of everything -

rugged hills, beautiful valleys, gentle plains and huge vistas. At Tarawera you can walk to the hot springs, which

are above the Waipunga River. You might also want to stop at the Waiarua Falls lookout, to view the twin

waterfalls.

The town of Eskdale heralds your arrival in Napier. In 1931 a devastating earthquake nearly levelled this city. It

was rebuilt in the style of the times, and is now considered the Art Deco Capital of the world. The vineyards of

Hawke’s Bay are all within easy reach of Napier. Another attraction is the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers.

Quest Napier is conveniently located in the Napier town centre, and is a short walk to the beach, Coastal

Walkway, Municipal Theatre and the Napier Conference Centre, and only a few minutes drive to Mission Estate

Wineries.

foot of the majestic volcano, Mount Tarawera, lies the largest of

the 18 magnificent lakes of the Rotorua region, Lake Tarawera.

Visitors to the area spend their days: mountain biking or horse

riding amidst the lush, native and exotic trees of the gorgeous

Whakarewarewa Forest; exploring the fascinating living Māori

village of Ohinemutu; taking scenic boat cruises to discover

ancient Maori cave drawings; or relaxing at the secluded Hot Water beach, where geothermal springs warm the

lake’s glistening waters. Lake Tarawera Scenic Reserve is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground with plenty of

fishing, boating, and other watersports on offer. For an adventurous outdoor getaway in a spectacularly beautiful

and peaceful natural environment, look no further than lovely Lake Tarawera,

Vintage Car Napier City Tour

Optional: Art Deco offers guests the complete picture, from

when Napier was virtually an island. Through the 1931

earthquake, the uplift of the land, the visual realization, and the

feeling of the awesome power of a large earthquake, the

destruction, despair, luck, unity of the people and the lessons

learnt. To the building of Napier as the Art Deco city of the world.

Included in the tour, is a look through New Zealand's second

oldest club, one of the few buildings that survived the earthquake. It is like going back in time, it brings the history

alive.

Afternoon Wine Tour Optional: They say Hawke’s Bay can be summed up in two

words… wine country. But, on closer inspection, there is much

more to enjoy here than an excellent Syrah or Savignon Blanc

(although that might suffice for some). The warm, dry climate is

also conducive to a number of outdoor activities including

cycling, walking the forest trails of the Ruahine and Kaweka

Forest Parks, getting up close and personal with the largest

gannet colony in the world at the scenic sandstone headland of Cape Kidnappers, or heading up to Te Mata Peak

for panoramic views of the entire area. For a wind down, pop into the Chocolate History Museum or stroll the

streets of Napier – the town boasts phenomenal Art Deco architecture.

Located on the south-western tip of North Island on the Cook Strait, Wellington is the constitutional and cultural

capital of New Zealand – dubbed ‘the coolest little capital in the world’. With its diverse architecture, world-class

museums, cultural attractions and award-winning restaurants, Wellington is a popular destination for both local

and international travellers. Due to its location in the ‘Roaring Forties’ the city experiences its fair share of wind

and as a result, sailing is a popular activity here – with charters offering the visitors the experience of a relaxed

cruise with beautiful views of the city and the surrounding bays.

| Day Notes Napier – Wellington (330km - approx. 4½ hrs)

The road from Napier to Wellington leads down the East Coast. You are passing Napier’s twin sister Hastings. It is

New Zealand’s leading pip fruit region. In Dannevirke, a town originally settled by Scandinavians, you can inspect

locally made knitwear. The wildlife sanctuary at Mt Bruce is an essential stop and a good opportunity to see and

learn about the native birdlife of New Zealand. Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre is an unfenced sanctuary for

native wildlife. The 942-hectare forest is home to wild kōkako and kākā, while inside the aviaries the centre

breeds endangered birds for release across Aotearoa New Zealand. On your visit you will learn about our

conservation work and possibly see birds with their chicks in the aviaries. You may also come across wild birds in

the forest such as the titipounamu (rifleman), kārearea (New Zealand falcon) and the kererū (wood

pigeon). Refuel in the Kākā Café (meal not included) overlooking the takahē.

Enjoy the clean, green Wairarapa scenery as you drive south. Carterton is a good place to shop for Paua shell

souvenirs, while Greytown has many beautiful examples of Victorian architecture and a quaint museum. After

passing the town of Featherston, which has an interesting locomotive museum, you’ll climb up and over the

Rimutaka Range - great views in every direction. Once the mountains are behind you, it’s easy driving for the rest

of your journey.

Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre

Planned: Pukaha Mount Bruce is a National Wildlife Centre

dedicated to the protection and restoration of the bush and

wildlife. Located 30 kilometres north of Masterton, Mount Bruce

is a highly educational experience and also great fun. The visitor

education centre has displays, an audio visual room and a café.

Martinborough

Information: What was once an obscure farming village is now a

thriving wine region with more than 20 vineyards, many of which

are situated only a few miles from Martinborough’s town centre.

So pop on your walking shoes or hop on a bike and wine taste

your way around the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, famous for

its robust Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.

Don’t forget to bring your appetite along as many of the wineries

are home to some tempting cafes and restaurants, where the chefs manage to whip up some sumptuous culinary

delights using the areas fabulously fresh local produce.The town itself is laid-back and pretty with a distinct

village-like feel, a lush, green town square and some charming old heritage buildings.
