Before starting the lesson, high expectations are being made through the use of the lesson’s anticipatory set. Students become engaged with a hook that prepares them for the content that will be delivered. The teacher provides background information on how, when, and where would the mask be required for use in the real world. The teacher also helps students take responsibility for their own participation and learning by providing needed materials.

In these pictures, students have just arrived and are reviewing the standards for the week. High expectations are established through written communication upon arrival for the school day to ensure student achievement. Procedures are also arranged for students when entering the classroom.

In these pictures, high expectations are set from the teacher as he helps students assume responsibility for their learning. By instructing students to use various strategies to solve problems. The teacher also demonstrates the use of technology as an aid in learning.

Expectations During Non-Instructional Routines

Rules1. Students must always listen to directions that are given to them the first time.2. Keep hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself.3. Have all classroom materials and supplies with you before entering the

classroom.Consequences

1. Students will face a verbal warning.2. A student/ teacher conference will be conducted and the student’s grade will

move to “Needs Improvement”.3. A phone call to the student’s parent will follow if the behavior continues. 4. Students will have to reflect on the rule(s) that were broken and write why they

broke the rule, why it was wrong to do so, as well as ways to prevent the event to happen again. The student’s conduct grade will be changed to “Unsatisfactory”.

5. A parent conference will be set up with the student’s parents.Incentives

1. Verbal Praise from the teacher2. Stickers and stamps3. Student will receive snack from the snack bucket

Procedures1. Preparing for the Instructional Day: When entering the classroom each student is

to unpack their book bag at their cubby and return to their desk with all needed materials.

2. Listening to announcements: When announcements are being made everyone should be silent.

3. Sharpening pencils: Students are to raise their hand when seeking attention for a pencil needing to be sharpened.

4. Seeking recognition: Students who are seeking recognition are to raise their hand and wait to be seen by the teacher. No student is to yell out.

5. Make up work: Any student who is absent will have the opportunity to make up work during recess or related arts time.
