had some extra dedicated members
who attended both! Relay for Life
was on Friday, April 26th at 7Pm at
the Nacogdoches Expo Center. Many
of our members have special ties to
Relay for Life so Nacogdoches Key
Club wanted to ensure we donated to
the event and the fight against cancer.
In the days leading up to the event, we
sold “Hope Floats” and ice cream
sundaes after school to the student
body and teachers of Nacogdoches
High School. It was such a huge
success that we ran out of ice cream
after only selling them for less than 20
minutes on Tuesday the 23rd . We
made sure we stocked up on ice cream
for Wednesday’s sales though! All of
the money raised through the selling
of Hope Floats will be donated to
Relay for Life!
MARCH OF DIMES March of Dimes is one of our all-time
favorite events; we did not even mind
waking up early on a Saturday for this

What’s Happening in the Lair?
GAME NIGHT A week ago, our Key Club sponsored
a Game Night open to all of the clubs
at Nacogdoches High School. It was a
tremendous success! We had tons of
food, and I think it is safe to say that
we all had a great time. We had a
Twister tournament, Just Dance
tournament, “Birdy on a Perch”
tournament, and many board games
available for members for play.
Everyone who attended paid an
entrance fee of $3. All of the money
we raised at this event will go to the
March of Dimes and the fight for
babies. Due to the success of this
event, I’m sure we will have on next
year as well!
RELAY FOR LIFE This time of year is always a busy
time for everyone, especially Key
Club. In the same weekend, we had
members at Relay for Life until
around midnight and then members at
March of Dimes the next day! We also

one! The walk was at Pecan Park on
E. Starr right next to the intramural
fields at SFA. This year was
especially special because the March
of Dimes organization is celebrating
75 years! We had a great turn out! For
two weeks, Nacogdoches Key Club
has been doing some serious
fundraising! During lunches, we sold
March of Dimes cutouts and
wristbands for a dollar. We offered the
students free tardy passes in exchange
for their donation, which was a huge
success! Also, we offered “Jeans for
Teachers” to the teachers at
Nacogdoches High School in
exchange for a donation of which will
benefit March of Dimes. The
accumulation of all the funds raised
for March of Dimes from our various
events totaled well over $1000!
BANQUET As our Key Club school year comes to
an end, it is time for our annual Key
Club banquet and installation of our
new officers! We are so very proud of
all we have accomplished the past
year and cannot wait to see what the
2013-2014 school year has in store for
the Nacogdoches Key Club. At the
banquet, we would like to take the
opportunity to recognize some of our
outstanding individual members who
have made it their mission to serve
their home, school, and community.
Even though all of our members are
very dedicated, there are a few that
stood out. The Outstanding Freshman
Key Club member was Jacob Johnson,
the Outstanding Sophomore Key Club
member was Drake Adkins, the
Outstanding Junior Key Club member
was Maggie King, and the
Outstanding Senior Key Club member
was Tristan Emborgo. In addition to
our outstanding members, we honored
the seniors who achieved in attaining
over 80 hours during the 2012-2013
school year. The senior who received
their cords were Paul Theiss, Cori
Redfield, and Tristan Emborgo. I
would like to take this opportunity to
especially recognize our fabulous club
sponsor, Nancy White, who dedicates
a tremendous amount of time and
effort to our club. We wouldn’t be
able to do everything we do without
her! Thanks for an awesome Key Club
year and I cannot wait until next year!
BE BOLD I hope all of you have a fantastic week
and, as always, BE BOLD.
