April has been a busy month at McHugh with many special Education Week Celebrations. Our students in Grades 2 5 participated in a wonderful “Spring Concert”. The Concert showcased the amazing talent of our students and was well attended by our parents and extended family members. Our Grade 4 students also performed French presentations for the entire school. Our Education Awards assembly was hosted on Friday, April 29th. A huge thank you to all families who purchased a book or two from the Book Fair. We most certainly appreciate your support. During Education Week, School Council held a Family Fitness Evening hosting several members of the Argos team. The evening included an anti-bullying presentation, a football game with linebacker James and the creation of team “Cheer” with two Cheerleaders. It was an evening of fabulous fun. Congratulations to Jayden R. who won a team autographed football and to Trey C. who won the Argos season tickets. This past month we also celebrated Earth Week. As we help our students understand the significance of taking care of our planet, it was wonderful to see the commitment from our families supporting student learning. A huge “SHOUT OUT” to all the children who brought “litterless” lunches and to all the students who planted pansies and collected garbage. You certainly have shown us that it is important to care for the Earth! The month of May will be very busy for our Grade Three classes. The Grade Three teaching team is working closely with the students to help prepare them for the EQAO assessment. We ask that all Grade Three families make sure that their child arrives promptly at school during the testing period (May 25 June 1) and that no appointments are booked during that time period. Spring is arriving very slowly and we certainly could use some much warmer weather! We wish all our students and their families a wonderful Victoria Day weekend as we look forward to a very busy June. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR AT McHUGH!

Dear Parents and Families, The Scholastic Book Fair was here! What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event. Many thanks to all of our families who came to participate in our Book Fair. Your support of this vital literary event is a key part of helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms.

There were hundreds of quality books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. Visit the Scholastic website at www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs to get more detailed information

about these books. You can also watch book trailers and author videos with your child on the BookTube page.

FUN FAIR – MAY 27

This year, our Fun Fair will be on Friday, May 27 at 4:30 pm. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on this Annual McHugh Event!

BRITANNIA FARM SUGAR BUSH

In March, our Kindergarten students visited the Britannia Farm Sugar Bush.

Tasting sap straight from the tree. We liked the cooked syrup better!

MUSIC NOTES

We've had a busy Spring at McHugh! Thank you to the parents and guardians who made it out to our Spring concert. The kids did an amazing job, and were so happy to perform for you. It is apparent that we have much talent at McHugh! On Monday, May 2nd, the grade 4's had an exciting trip to Celebration Square in Mississauga in honour of Music Monday and the Ontario Summer Games. We had a great time despite the rain!

In Song,

Mrs. Ross

Measuring to find a good sap tree ‘2 Kindergarteners

arms’ in diameter!
