FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Spring is finally trying to spring up around here….can’t you tell by all the pollen? I would encourage us to spring into action in Ministry here at First Calvary. I am reminded of the saying, “What’s missing in CH_ _ CH? U R!!” Don’t get missing in action when it comes to being active in ministry life within this Body of Faith. Get involved…DO SOMETHING. Check out the bulletin each week….the announcements list special opportunities to serve as well as the back of the bulletin that lists the various Ministries here that you can join. Your gifts…your presence…your voice…. It’s all about service!

It’s April and Womanhood Month at First Calvary is in full swing! Thank you to those who attended the “Ladies Social Hour” event on Friday. We are preparing for an awesome move of God over the coming days as well. There are exciting events planned. Our ladies are on a mission…and it’s “Transforming Discipleship: Changed Into God’s Glorious Image”, so sisters, come out and be blessed…and bring somebody! Coming up is the “Women Escaping Boundaries” event and the opportunity to serve at the Mobile Market. We will also see the return of Women’s Revival on April 18th and 19th, with Ministers Chaurita Dawson-Herring and Phyllis Arrington McGhee. Our very own Minister Torie Forte Associate Minister at First Calvary, will be the guest preacher at the Hour of Power on Friday, April 20th and we will hear from our own Mrs. Judith Davis at our Annual Celebration of Womanhood Sunday on the 22nd. Finally, our ladies will close out the month on the 28th with a little “Spiritual Reflection” at Jordan Lake. We will then celebrate as a Church Family the Service of Ordination for Minister Vanessa Chalk on April 29th. Let’s all be in prayer for the success of our Womanhood Month! The women of First Calvary are truly an integral part of the growth of this body which helps do what we do for the cause of Christ.

I would like to share with you the following characteristics of a Godly woman. A Godly woman should seek to be: Agreeable… It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman (Proverbs 21:19); Excellent…An excellent woman who can find? She is far more precious than jewels (Proverbs 31:10); Gracious & Honorable… A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches (Proverbs 11:16); Kindhearted & Generous… She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet (Proverbs 31:20-21); She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:26); Wise… The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down (Proverbs 14:1). Ladies (and men), I encourage you to continue to seek God as you move forward in your careers, your families and your communities. YOU make a difference in this Kingdom work….don’t you forget it! All of us at First Calvary, working together in ministry, make this AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Planet earth has an overabundance of people walking around tired. We often try to find things to remedy the problem. Unfortunately, we often misdiagnose the source. Misdiagnosis puts you on a collision course with true exhaustion. Our ability to handle stress in life is directly related to the strength of our spirit. The spirit that lives within us is the lens that allows us to focus on what matters most. It also allows us to deal with tough times when they come knocking at our door. If our spirit has been under attack and we have been unable to provide a proper defense, we find it broken. So what do you do? You go to the doctor and this is what he or she tells you. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. Proverbs 17:22, NLT. Taking time to focus on the goodness of God and his blessings brings joy and strength to our spirit. The weight of the world brings us down, but the joy of the Lord lifts us up. Joy overcomes exhaustion every time and it is just what the doctor prescribed.
