Seder Celebration with Mass in the Parish Hall

Followed by Soup & Salad

Get your tickets NOW! April 6-7 & April 13-14 after Sat & Sun Masses for this special celebration. Seder Soup & Salad $6 for adults ($3 for kids 5 yrs old or younger). No tickets will be sold at the door.

The Seder involves a ritual meal which commemorates the events of the Exo-dus. Its purpose is to pass on to future generations the story of the Exodus, the central event in Jewish history. As Christians, our own spiritual roots are also connected to this meal since it was celebrated by Jesus at the Last Sup-per when he instituted the Eucharist, thus passing on and re-enacting the cen-tral event of Christianity—the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

No Soup & Salad on Wed. April 10.

Lenten Mission Holy Week Retreat The Paschal Mystery

As Vital Light and Might

April 15-17 — in the Church presented by Fr. Pio Estepa, SVD

3 days exploring “The Paschal Mystery”. Each Mission Day starts with 8:00am Mass in the Church. The Mission topics are:

• Monday, April 15 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentations: 9am & 7pm FAITH AS VIA CRUCIS (Way of the Cross)

• Tuesday, April 16 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentations: 9am & 7pm HOPE AS RISUS PASCHALIS (Easter Laughter)

• Wednesday, April 17 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentation: 9am (No 7pm) THE SEDER AS ‘EUCHARIST’ (Thanksgiving)

The Paschal Mystery—after every Eucharistic consecration of bread and wine, what we proclaim as the “mystery of faith” is what we most solemnly celebrate during the Holy Week –from Passion Sunday to Easter Sunday.

From Holy Monday to Wednesday, you are most welcome to join our parish community in reflecting anew on the Paschal Mystery:

• What meaningful light (why) can it shed on our journey from womb to tomb?

• And what sustaining might (how) can it give to our “pursuit of happiness”?

“One who has a why to live for,” so affirms a German adage, “can bear with almost any how.”

REFLECTIONS God’s Actions Now

When Jews celebrate the Passover, they always tell the story of the Exodus in present terms, as if they themselves experienced those events: when we were prisoners in Egypt; when God brought us out of slavery and through the waters of the sea. We would do well to follow their example and see the works of Jesus and his sacrifice as be-ing in the present, as happening to us now. We believe that Christ’s work, his teachings, and his sacrifice on the cross were not just for his followers in the past, but for all people at all times. When we think of this in our prayers, we become one in faith with that great cloud of witnesses, the saints.

We have been striving through Lent to repent of our sins and failings, and to follow Jesus more closely. Today in the story of the woman caught in adultery, we see Jesus forgiving the woman, saving her from a horrible death, and urging her not to sin any more. This is new, and brings out something for which the law had not allowed--forgiveness. Of course one can sin no more if one is dead, caught in one’s sins forever. But Jesus introduces the con-cepts of forgiveness & reconciliation.
