AUTOMATED ONLINE HUNTING, TRAPPING AND ANGLING SYSTEM GOES LIVE APRIL 1

Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff today demonstrated the new online Hunting, Trapping and Angling Licence (HAL) ordering system by purchasing his 2013-14 angling licence in Regina. “Saskatchewan boasts some of North America’s best hunting and fishing, enjoyed by residents and guests from around the world,” Cheveldayoff said. “We’re making it easier for people to access the necessary licenses to enjoy these sports with the introduction of the online system. An online licensing system not only improves the experience for hunters and anglers who are contributing to our economy, but it allows the Ministry of Environment to better monitor and manage wildlife resources within the province and ensure excellent sport opportunities for generations to come.” “The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) recognizes that the new automated system transition will provide valuable opportunities in research and survey collection as well as increased enforcement and compliance measures which will be of great benefit to Saskatchewan’s wildlife resources,” SWF Executive Director Darrell Crabbe said. On April 1 at 9 a.m., all those looking to purchase an angling licence can access the automated licensing system to establish an account and be assigned a unique HAL identification number. They will only ever have to register once and then they will be able to purchase all future licences as they become available. Anglers can purchase their angling licences:

online through their personal computer any time;

through private issuers, Ministry of Environment and select Provincial Park offices; or

by phone at 1-855-848-4773. For this year, spring bear licences and Wildlife Habitat licences must be purchased from a local licence issuer, Ministry of Environment or select Provincial Park offices. All remaining licences will be available online in time for the fall hunting season.

Detailed instructions for signing up for a HAL number and how to purchase a licence are available at www.gov.sk.ca/huntingandfishing. For more information, contact: Val Nicholson Environment Phone: 306-953-2459

RENTAL RIGHTS ENHANCED FOR SASKATCHEWAN SENIORS The Government of Saskatchewan has introduced a change that will increase the rental rights of seniors in the province. Effective April 1, residents living in retirement homes, seniors’ retirement communities and independent living facilities that provide meals to residents over the age of 55 will be able to access the Office of Residential Tenancies to resolve disputes. “Our government is pleased to provide residents living in these facilities with the same rights as other Saskatchewan tenants,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said. “This change will bring Saskatchewan in line with the rest of the country on this issue, and offer protection and security to our province’s seniors.” “This change provides important protection for seniors,” Social Services Minister June Draude said. “Prior to this, seniors had no choice but to sign a rental contract drawn up by the landlord. This levels the playing field, by clearly outlining the legal rights and obligations of both landlords and tenants.” In the past, residents living in these facilities were not covered under The Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, and did not have access to the Office of Residential Tenancies. Residents will now have access to that office, which offers a range of mediation and dispute resolution services for landlords and tenants. Special care homes and personal care homes are still exempt, as they are licensed and regulated by the Ministry of Health under The Regional Health Services Act and The Personal Care Homes Act. CIPI Newsletter – April 5th, 2013

April is National Oral Health Month

Most of us realize that diet and exercise play an

important part in keeping us healthy. But did

you know that a healthy mouth is also an

important part of a healthy body?

Poor oral health can affect a person's quality of

life. Oral pain, missing teeth or oral infections

can affect the way a person speaks, eats and

socializes. These oral health problems can

reduce a person's quality of life by affecting

their physical, mental and social well-being.

Oral disease, like any other disease, needs to be

treated. A chronic infection, including one in

the mouth, is a serious problem that should not

be ignored. Yet bleeding or tender gums are

often overlooked.

Research has shown there is an association

between oral disease and other health problems

such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke,

respiratory illness in older adults, as well as pre

-term and low-birth-weight babies. Although

researchers are just beginning to understand

this relationship, evidence shows that oral

disease can aggravate other health problems

and that keeping a healthy mouth is an

important part of leading a healthy life.

What can you do for good oral health?

1. Brush twice a day with a fluoridated

toothpaste and floss daily to keep your mouth

clean.

2. Eat healthy foods and limit sugary and

highly acidic foods and drinks that can promote

tooth decay.

3. Don’t wait until it hurts. Visit your dental

office for regular check-ups and professional

cleanings.

4. Know your mouth! Check regularly for

signs of gum disease, tooth decay or oral

cancer.

Avoid smoking and using tobacco products, as

these cause stained and missing teeth, gum

damage, persistent bad breath and may lead to

oral cancer.

For more information contact:

Glenda Burnouf

Prenatal/Preschool Dental Therapist

[email protected]

Signs of gum disease include red, sore and sensitive gums that

may bleed. Tooth decay may be indicated by

sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet

or pressure. Indicators of oral cancer include

unexplained bleeding, sores in the mouth that don't heal within 7-10 days, white or red

patches on the tongue or mouth, numbness or tingling in

the mouth, or small lumps and thickening on the sides or bottom of the tongue or

elsewhere in the mouth. If you note any of these, contact

your dentist. He or she is trained to recognize the signs of gum disease, tooth decay

and oral cancer.

CIPI Newsletter – April 5th, 2013

April is National Oral Health Month

Most of us realize that diet and exercise play an

important part in keeping us healthy. But did

you know that a healthy mouth is also an

important part of a healthy body?

Poor oral health can affect a person's quality of

life. Oral pain, missing teeth or oral infections

can affect the way a person speaks, eats and

socializes. These oral health problems can

reduce a person's quality of life by affecting

their physical, mental and social well-being.

Oral disease, like any other disease, needs to be

treated. A chronic infection, including one in

the mouth, is a serious problem that should not

be ignored. Yet bleeding or tender gums are

often overlooked.

Research has shown there is an association

between oral disease and other health problems

such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke,

respiratory illness in older adults, as well as pre

-term and low-birth-weight babies. Although

researchers are just beginning to understand

this relationship, evidence shows that oral

disease can aggravate other health problems

and that keeping a healthy mouth is an

important part of leading a healthy life.

What can you do for good oral health?

1. Brush twice a day with a fluoridated

toothpaste and floss daily to keep your mouth

clean.

2. Eat healthy foods and limit sugary and

highly acidic foods and drinks that can promote

tooth decay.

3. Don’t wait until it hurts. Visit your dental

office for regular check-ups and professional

cleanings.

4. Know your mouth! Check regularly for

signs of gum disease, tooth decay or oral

cancer.

Avoid smoking and using tobacco products, as

these cause stained and missing teeth, gum

damage, persistent bad breath and may lead to

oral cancer.

Signs of gum disease include red, sore and sensitive gums that

may bleed. Tooth decay may be indicated by

sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet

or pressure. Indicators of oral cancer include

unexplained bleeding, sores in the mouth that don't heal within 7-10 days, white or red

patches on the tongue or mouth, numbness or tingling in

the mouth, or small lumps and thickening on the sides or bottom of the tongue or

elsewhere in the mouth. If you note any of these, contact

your dentist. He or she is trained to recognize the signs of gum disease, tooth decay

and oral cancer.

Anglers can purchase their angling licences:

online through their personal computer any time;

through private issuers, Ministry of Environment and select Provincial Park offices; or

by phone at 1-855-848-4773.
