Daffodil Month Kickoff in Downtown Pembroke April is Daffodil Month and a dedicated time period where the Canadian Cancer Society asks Canadians to donate generously through a variety of fundraising programs to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life for those affected by the disease. Join the Society in Downtown Pembroke during their special Daffodil Month Kickoff event Thursday, April 5! Everyone is welcome to attend and listen to guest speakers and learn about Canadian Cancer Society programs and support the Daffodil campaign. Runs 12-2 p.m. at Shamrock Park (across from Ullrich's). 2. Downtown Shop Hop - Spring into Downtown Edition Downtown Pembroke invites everyone to come out for the Downtown Shop Hop - Spring into Downtown Edition Thursday, April 5 from 4-8 p.m. Participating businesses and restaurants (marked with balloons) will have exclusives during these evening hours, which could be a sale, contest, product launch, artist visit, demo or more! Businesses will also be taking donations for the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Month Campaign, and the more stores you visit, the better your chance of winning two free passes to the Git'Er Done Mud Run! 3. Business Communications, Marketing and Branding Workshop Are you thinking of opening a business or looking to improve your marketing for your current business? Be sure to check out this free workshop hosted by the City of Pembroke Thursday, April 5! Guest speaker Chela Breckon, Algonquin College Entrepreneur in Residence, will be providing tips and advice for business communications, marketing and branding. Runs 6-8 p.m. at City Hall. Register by contacting Heather Salovaara. 4. Trivia Night at Kerry's Place Grab your favourite trivia pals and head to Kerry's Place April 6 at 8 p.m. for their next Trivia Night! Hosted by the CWL of St. Columbkille's Cathedral. 7. Rapids Rail Jam Algonquin College's Action Sports Park Development students are hosting a rail jam skateboard event this Saturday, April 7, starting at 12 p.m. at the Rapids Skate Park in Downtown Pembroke (20 Lake St.). Skateboarders are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to use as their entrance fee for this all-ages event. Click here to learn more! 8. Bend and Brunch Join White Pine Yoga in Downtown Pembroke April 8 for a morning of relaxation with Bend and Brunch. Yin and Tonic yoga class with massage and essential oils through out. Followed by a healthy and delicious meal at The Courtyard Bistro. Gratuity included. Tickets are $40. 9. Community Tick Talk The Pembroke Animal Hospital invites you to their Pet Learning Centre April 9 at 6:30 p.m. for a community tick talk. Learn about fleas and ticks and the risks they pose in our community. Discussion will include tick species found in Ontario and diseases ticks transmit to pets and people. Co-hosted on the Renfrew County OSPCA. Kids will receive a fun, interactive colouring book. Space is limited to please RSVP at this email. 10. DIY Plant Workshop Chahna Fai in Downtown Pembroke is hosting a DIY plant workshop April 11 at 6 p.m. Spring is finally here! Come down with a few friends and design a beautiful plant with Pam! A Wedding Invitation from the Pembroke Community Choir It’s their Diamond Jubilee…60 years since the formation of the Pembroke Community Choir and they have a lovely program lined up for our spring concert. “A Wedding Invitation” includes beautiful royal anthems and classical pieces perfect for weddings; wedding-related Broadway tunes and modern pop songs, and two songs commissioned for Kate and William’s Royal Wedding. 1. National Caesar Day May 17 is National Caesar Day and the unofficial kickoff to summer in Canada! This is a perfect reason to head to The Nelson Street Pub and check out some of what's available on their new Caesar menu! Pembi reminds everyone to please drink responsibly. 2. Head Out on the River

Daily boat launching opens at the Pembroke Marina Friday, May 18! The long weekend is a great time to explore the beautiful Ottawa River. Please note, water levels and flows along the river are high and the City asks boaters to exercise caution and wise judgement while on the water. Marina staff are on hand for help and support from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. 3. Flowers and Plants! This week is a busy one for the Pembroke Horticultural Society as they host their Flower Show (May 17) and Giant Plant Sale (May 19)! Flower Show: - At Pembroke Mall from 1-3:45 p.m. - A display of the society's best seasonal flowers Giant Plant Sale: - At Pembroke & Area Community Centre from 9 a.m. until all is sold - Plants available include perennials for sun and shade, tomato plants, vegetable plants, ground covers, tubers, trees and shrub - Also includes a children's table 4. Youth Garden Program If you live in Pembroke and area, it's time to sign up your children ages 5-12 for this year's Youth Garden Program, hosted by the Pembroke Horticultural Society. The kids get seeds to grow four vegetables and two flowers. There is a $2 registration fee to be paid when the seeds are picked up during the Giant Plant Sale May 19 (see above). A Society member will visit the garden in the summer to give feedback. Everything wraps up in September with a Harvest Party. Royal Wedding High Tea In celebration of the Royal Wedding, Grey Gables and the Bernadette McCann House are hosting A Royal High Tea Saturday, May 19 at Grey Gables Inn. Doors open at 6 a.m. for those of you wishing to see all the dignitaries and invited guests arriving for the ceremony. 8. Mark this Next Speakers Series Event on Your Calendar! Join Algonquin College Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. to learn about how 100 years ago much of Pembroke’s downtown was destroyed by a raging fire. Local historian Bruce Pappin will lead an informative speaker series presentation to mark the anniversary of Pembroke’s Great Fire of 1918 with a two-part session that includes a walk through the downtown, highlighting how the fire progressed and what buildings were destroyed. The presentation will also explore the aftermath of the fire, including the inquest that was held to determine the cause. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
