Wading through the New Family andMedical Leave Act RegulationsASK RITA IN HR - BY PAMELA FYFE & ELLEN ALDRIDGE - APRIL 14,2009 - EMAIL

New year, new forms to fill out! Though we love that employees canhave some flexibility when serious medical and family issues arise, administering the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) can bechallenging. Mercifully, Ask Rita offers some guidance on thetechnicalities of recent changes to the law.

Dear Rita: Just when I thought I had my head wrapped around theintricacies of the leave and health benefit laws, they changed: theFMLA, ADA and COBRA regulations were all revised and rewritten thisyear. Of course, these revisions come at a time when we are in direfinancial straits, facing layoffs, and certainly don't want the added riskof violating FMLA regulations. Can you outline the basic FMLAchanges? - Head is Spinning.
