Experience It! La Salette

The year is 1846, and the air is calm with a warm September breeze. As the afternoon is drawing to a close, two young shepherds are suddenly

struck with a vision in the hills of France. It's an ethereal woman, donning a white dress with gold and rose accents – and she has a message.

The Shrine at La Salette marks this miracle site, where the Virgin Mary spoke to Melanie and Maximin. It is believed that she spoke of the arm

of her Son, growing heavy from the loss of faith and profanity of the area. When the young children reported this news, the town quickly

sought to amend this wrong. Today, the basilica honors this apparition through its towering stone structure, standing strong among the

surrounding mountains and sprawling pastures just as Mary did that fateful afternoon.
