A Note from Nursing

Employee Spotlight We are very lucky to have Executive Chef,

Hugo on staff here at The Residence at North

Ridge. He has a great passion for creating

delicious food. Cooking has always been a big

part of his family tradition. His mom and

grandmother ran a catering business. Growing

up Hugo asked a lot of cooking questions and

was open to sampling any dish. Hugo attended

culinary school in Mexico. A favorite pastime of

his is to create unique Mexican dishes at

home. His children have now joined in the fun,

as well, and cook alongside their dad. Here at

work, his favorite recipes to make are oven

fried chicken and all the various soups found

on the menu! Hugo would love to publish a

cookbook to share his passion. The residents

rave over Hugo’s food!! Hugo said he puts his

whole heart into cooking for people and we

can attest, it is an amazing gift! Hugo is glad

that The Residence at North Ridge has

opened the dining room so he can chat with

the residents and see them enjoying his work.

Not only is Hugo an amazing chef, he’s also a

really great guy. Thank you, Hugo!

Activity Room In 1946, Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford),

legendary manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, defies major league baseball’s notorious color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson (Chadwick

Boseman) to the team. The heroic act puts both Rickey and Robinson in the firing line of the

public, the press and other players. Facing open racism from all sides, Robinson demonstrates true courage and admirable restraint by not

reacting in kind and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him.

Snack Cake Super Stardom

James Dewar started working at Illinois’ Continental Baking Company in the 1920s as a delivery boy, hawking pastries from a horse-drawn cart. By

1930, he had risen to plant manager, and on April 6 of that year, he created the most famous snack cake the world has ever known, the Twinkie. Before the cakes were called Twinkies, they were Little Shortcake Fingers, pre-packaged strawberry-filled shortcakes that were available only during the short strawberry-harvest season. The idle factory equipment drove Dewar to invent a new, still nameless, yellow sponge cake filled with banana crème. While on his way to a marketing meeting, Dewar passed a billboard advertising Twinkle Toe Shoes. He had found the Twinkies name, and the rest is snack cake history.
