ECHOES
Another Bulletin Another chance to reflect.
We all have responsibilities, duties and interests that keep our lives full and our time well-invested.
Some volunteer, some serve different causes and some simply work away thedays, but as Elks we all swore our
allegiance, we took our vows and we made our promise to be true to our Cardinal Principles; to improve thequality of life for us and our brothers and sisters, not merely words but an improved way of life. Our constant guide and faithful monitor.
Please help me to welcome our new slate of Officers for the Benevolent order of Elks Year 2020-2021! Our Officers and Trustees all work together to help our Lodge run smoothly and efficiently; they all deserve our support.
The 2021 Walk out on Drugs will be held April 26th at Lake Papaianni in Edison, the same as last year. Pleasemark your calendars and show your support for this Great Cause.
And please keep May 20th open for our annual “Comedy Night” – always a super good time. We also need some candidates to sit in the front row as easy targets (“participants”) for the Comedians.
As we are still under NJ Governor Murphy’s Executive Orders for social-distancing and quarantine, please check our online calendar and Facebook events – these and other events could be canceled as well. Subscribe to our mailing list for all the latest details.
Remember: “We are Elks.” We Help those less fortunate, those who have served our Country, those with disabilities and we treat each other with Respect and Dignity.
It’s who we are and what we do !
Respectfully YoursDanny Larsen

Hello Members
This is a different time that we are all going through and we are seeing things happen around us that none of us ever anticipated.
We are all going through this together even though we can't be
with one another. I'd like people to stay in touch yet still stay apart. Technology makes it possible! Just theother night some of our ladies had a virtual happy hour. They used the Zoom app and talked for almost 2 hrs, and I must say it was quite amusing. It was good to see them having a good time. It's things like this that makes these difficult times a bit easier.
And yet, there is still work to be done around the lodge. According to Danny Larsen:
• Paul Staeger has been raking the entire back lawn by hand behind Maxey Hall and the backlawn; it looks fantastic.
• All the leaves and debris have been cleaned up around the pool inside of the fence.
• Firewood has been being split and stacked.• The rain gutters on the front of the Lodge and
garage have been cleaned.• (All this activity has been done on an
individual basis so no risk of exposure or spreading anything)
To all our members please follow the advice of our health officials. Let's stop the spread of this virus before it gets any worse. We are all in this for the long run and not knowing what the future will bring can be a bit scary but by staying calm and following some simple rules we will get through this.
Be well, stay safe and stay home.

Our lodge receive an ENF Spotlight Grant for $2000.00 for Elk year 2019-2020.
The request was written for purchasing items for homeless veterans moving into new apartments. Withshopping assistance from Mary Lewis and Kim DeVizio we were able to buy a number of essential items for the bedroom, livingroom and the bathroom for a number of men and women moving into a new apartment.
Mary also did a little recon prior to us actually shopping. She got us a ten present discount at the Manville Walmart.
I would like to thank Joann Bataille for securing the grant. Elks Care and Elks Share.

CLOSED - We are temporarily closed by Executive Order of Governor Murphy due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Officers for 2020-2021Our officers for 2020-2021 were initiated on Thursday, March 19 as Governor Murphy announced his Executive Order shutting down virtually all social venues in the state due to the COVID19 Coronavirus pandemic quarantine. A celebration event will be announced as soon as allowed.
Some more notes:If you were at the lodge on Saturday, March 14, you noticed several members loading boxes up for transfer to the NJ State Elks Veterans Committee “Annex” in Stirling. These supplies were purchased using an ENF Spotlight Grant (as noted by Fran Bellew, PER on page 3), and delivered for previously homeless veterans who will be moving into new apartments. Thanks to David Lewis, Mary Lewis, Kim DeVizio, Fran Bellew and David Dante for the muscle!
Bulletins:Each month I automatically send an email and text message to all committee chairs, officers and directors, as well as PERs asking for articles for the next bulletin. Three officers respond regularly. Please let me know what can I doto make it easier for you all to send me news to report – there seems to be a lot to talk about at lodge meetings that never makes it to me.
Text or call me at 908-605-0305…or email me at [email protected]
Members are also welcome to join the committee and contribute their time and expertise. Call me if you’re interested!
PS – if you’ve noticed and are confused… the ER’s note was written by Danny Larsen and while he was still the Exalted Ruler.
PPS – Did you notice Danny Larsen’s new title? Please congratulate Danny on his new role as District Deputy for our Central District!

JanuaryWarren Cub Scouts Dominate in Watchung Mountain District Klondike Derby
The Klondike Derby is an annual event held by BSA Councils during the winter months and is based on the heritage of the Klondike Gold Rush. Boy Scout units have been running Klondike derbies since 1949. The event varies by district, but a typical Klondike derby consists of several stations where patrols/units must test their skills and their leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score. Often, one or more races are included while the Scouts navigate between stations. For the Boy Scouts, each unit must transport their gear on a homemade sled pulled by the Scouts. Districts may have specific guidelines for the construction of sleds. Cub Scouts carry their gear in backpacks.
On January 25th two patrols from Warren’s Cub Scout Pack 182 joined 23 other groups participating in the challenge of the Watchung Mountain District’s Klondike Derby. It was a rainy, freezing cold Sunday, but our scouts, Fifth Grade Arrow of Light team “Warren Tanks” and the Fourth Grade Webelo team “Flying Llamas” showed their best skills and teamwork to run the course. The race had 7 stations the scouts needed to navigate their way to: 1 - Fire building 2 - Orienteering 3 - First Aid
4 - Shelter Buildng 5 - Outdoor cooking 6 - Knot tying 7 - Distress communication
Both patrols from Pack 182 tied for first place by receiving a near perfect score. Both patrols ran independently of one another and both scored 194 out of 195 points!
For ten weeks prior to the contest, the scouts dedicated themselves to training every Sunday outdoors to condition themselves to the elements the race would be run in. Warren's Town Manager Mark Krane, and the Warren Township committee allowed the scouts to train on a section of town property just across the street from Wagner Farm.
“Warren Tanks” AOL (Arrow of Light) scouts were: Marcello Gioia, Gideon Minieri, Mateusz Teepee, Peter Rexford, Bernie Ryder, Kayden Thursfield-Ritchie, Joseph Guerra, and Michael Santoro
“Flying Llamas” Webelo Scouts were: Tyler Shehady, Mark Armento, Ethan Hammond, Drew Connolly, Gavin Velazquez and Jayden Bathla
The Pack is extremely proud of these scouts! It is clear that their hard work preparing for the contest is what enabled both patrols to perform at the highest level possible. Great work Scouts!
