Please do keep up to date with events at each school through the dates lists in the newsleers and on the schools websites. School Development and Priories It is important that our schools constantly strive to be the best that they can be. Our children deserve the highest standards and best provision to enable them to achieve beyond their expectaons. To enable us to achieve this, the schools have a joint Schools Development Plan which idenfies the priories for school improvement over the coming year. Connuous school improvement lies at the heart of all outstanding schools and it is important that our schools do not stand sll. To help us develop our priories we have strong processes for monitoring, and self- evaluaon, keeping track of naonal iniaves whilst taking the views and opinions of our children, staff, parents and governors to shape the on-going development of both schools. A parents guide to our current SDP can be found on both websites. We would like to hear your views! Parent Quesonnaires As part of idenfying our priories for the coming year, we have recently issued our quesonnaires to parents, staff and children. We value your views on how we are doing and these will provide input into our priories for the year ahead. Please do take a few minutes to let us know what you think. We will be discussing areas of success and development at this terms Parent Forum / Class Reps meengs at each school and we will also provide feedback to all parents on the outcomes of the quesonnaires. Sports Day Friday 22 nd June Our Sports Days are important and excing days for the children across both schools, a chance to compete for your team, demonstrate key sporng skills and have fun. This year the Sports Days will again be held on the same day – Friday 22 nd June, with the juniors in the morning and the infants in the aſternoon. Having both events on one day best supports families from both schools in making me to come along and watch your children, as well as being an opportunity for the children to come together. Preparaons for admissions in 2019 start early and as a way of introducing our schools to parents, or even for exisng parents to have a recap, we are offering informal school tours throughout the second half of the Summer Term. You are welcome to bring your child with you to these events as this transion is just as important for them as it is for parents! The dates for these are Tuesday 26th June 9:15-10:15 and Thursday 5th July 9:15-10:15. If you would like to book a place on these do please contact the school office. Please do keep up to date with events at each school through the dates lists in the newsletters and on the schools’ websites. School Development and Priorities

It is important that our schools constantly strive to be the best that they can be. Our children deserve the highest standards and best provision to enable them to achieve beyond their expectations. To enable us to achieve this, the schools have a joint Schools Development Plan which identifies the priorities for school improvement over the coming year. Continuous school improvement lies at the heart of all outstanding schools and it is important that our schools do not stand still. To help us develop our priorities we have strong processes for monitoring, and self- evaluation,

keeping track of national initiatives whilst taking the views and opinions of our children, staff, parents and governors to shape the on-going development of both schools. A parent’s guide to our current SDP can be found on both websites.

We would like to hear your views! Parent Questionnaires As part of identifying our priorities for the coming year, we have recently issued our questionnaires to parents, staff and children. We value your views on how we are doing and these will provide input into our priorities for the year ahead. Please do take a few minutes to let us know what you think. We will be discussing areas of success and development at this term’s Parent Forum / Class Reps meetings at each school and we will also provide feedback to all parents on the outcomes of the questionnaires. Sports Day Friday 22nd June Our Sports Days are important and exciting days for the children across both schools, a chance to compete for your team, demonstrate key sporting skills and have fun. This year the Sports Days will again be held on the same day – Friday 22nd June, with the juniors in the morning and the infants in the afternoon. Having both events on one day best supports families from both schools in making time to come along and watch your children, as well as being an opportunity for the children to come together. Is your child starting infant or junior school in 2019? Preparations for admissions in 2019 start early and as a way of introducing our schools to parents, or even for existing parents to have a recap, we are offering informal school tours throughout the second half of the Summer Term. This is an informal opportunity to see us in action, with our children showing you around their schools. You are welcome to bring your child with you to these events as this transition is just as important for them as it is for parents! The dates for these are Tuesday 26th June 9:15-10:15 and Thursday 5th July 9:15-10:15. If you would like to book a place on these do please contact the school office. Hammond University Feedback

Thank you to all parents who completed the questionnaire distributed at the end of the Spring term regarding Hammond University. The views, comments and ideas shared showed us that most really enjoy and appreciate Hammond University with nearly 80% of parents liking the courses on offer and over 90% liking the current scheduling. Similarly we know that the children really enjoy Hammond University and around 80% were happy with their courses and how Hammond University is run. However reading further comments and ideas given, we feel we have an opportunity to adapt some elements of the courses and administration to make it even more successful. For this reason, and because we have so many other school events this Summer, we have decided to not run Hammond University this term but to review the offering for September. We hope the children will not be too disappointed with this decision.

Lightwater Fete, Saturday 12th May

Our Brass Band will be performing at the Lightwater Village Fete on Saturday 12th May. Please come along and support them and enjoy a fabulous family afternoon. The Year 2 children will also be dancing the Maypole.

Upcoming Trips, Workshops and Residentials

A reminder for parents that we have a number of trips, workshops and residentials coming up this term. In-formation has been or will be sent via ParentMail—notably the Year 5 trip to the Mary Rose on Tuesday 1st May, Year 4 residential 9th-11th May and Year 6 residential during w/c 9th July.

We are currently waiting payments for most of these trips—please check your ParentMail account to get up to date with payments which are pending. Any non-payment for a trip impacts the school budget and means money cannot be spent on other areas.

Relationship & Sex Education Parent Meeting

Thank you to all parents who contributed to our consultation about changes to the curriculum for relation-ship and sex education via the Parent Forum on 15th March. We are now inviting all parents to an information evening on Thursday 3rd May at 6pm at Hammond School to hear details of our provision for relationship education across the federation and how we can work together on this often sensitive issue. If you wish to review the curriculum which will be discussed at this meeting please take a look at our website at http://www.hammondjuniorschool.org/365/personal-social-health-and-citizenship-education-phsce

Parking!

We would like to remind parents that parking in the staff car park is not allowed at any time. This includes for breakfast club pick up and for after school clubs. The car park is in constant use at all times by members of staff and the bungalow on site. Pupils also sometimes walk through this area so we wish to ensure safety.

Also may we once again ask parents to park considerately and with care around the school site. We have had numerous reports of parents parking carelessly in front of people’s driveways and of verbal abuse to-wards local residents when dropping off children. We are fortunate to be in a quiet residential area but we must be respectful of this. If you need to drive to drop off and pick up, please park some distance away and walk to the entrance rather than congest the area outside of school.

Thank you for your donations for Mufti Day on the last day of term.

A marvellous £175.77 was collected!

We are pleased to announce that our Movie Nights were a great success. Everyone

enjoyed themselves and a fabulous £585.24 was raised! We aim to run many more in

the future! Thank you to everyone who came along!

The HSA will be teaming up with LVSPA with a joint Summer

Ball on 14th July at the

Berystede Hotel. We are sure it will be a fabulous night! Information was sent out via

Parent Mail. We will also be sending home a hard copy.

The new kitchen has now been fitted. It looks wonderful! It just needs painting and

then it will be ready to use!. The new picnic benches for outside are due to arrive

any day now too! We are so happy to have raised the money to fund these

improvements. We met with the school council who asked if it would be possible

for the HSA to help with updating the laptops which they have in school. We will

be working hard to achieve this for them!

We would again like to thank all of the parents who have signed up to Class list. If you have

not yet signed up please give it a go- the more parents that sign up the more effective it will

be. The app includes a useful diary, where you can easily view the dates of upcoming events.
