THINK IT POSSIBLE

Think It Possible is a social enterprise founded in 2014 by Anis Aneel Idress with the partners of Angle House Orthodontics supported by Angle House Foundation. Think It Possible is the youth engagement arm of the Angle House Foundation and its mission is to address inter-generational social

mobility barriers faced by young people. By creating opportunities, raising aspirations and developing new skills, Think It Possible

equips young people with the skills and networks to break through the glass ceiling one step at a time. Our

aim is to provide young talented individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds the support they need to break into the professional and corporate world in the form of masterclasses, internships and mentorships. So far, Think It Possible has supported over 500 young patients from disadvantaged communities to overcome institutional barriers and

take a step closer to realising their personal and professional ambitions.

WHAT’S NEW IN ORTHODONTICS?

The digital revolution is changing all aspects of our lives. Orthodontics is no exception. Angle House Orthodontics is investing in new technology, ongoing team training and introducing the latest in treatments – all of this means that our patients are given the choice of the most up to date techniques and technologies. Recently we have introduced equipment that allows digital scanning of teeth, this negates the need for traditional impressions having to be taken. It is quick, accurate and a lot less messy!

Invisalign for Teens – Invisalign is one of the most successful and widely used, nearly invisible, straightening systems used today. This was traditionally only used on adults, but now it is available for teens, which is great news for patients that do not want to have traditional braces. Patients can continue with their normal diet, they can remove the aligners for cleaning and you can hardly detect they are even there.

ANGLE HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEED TO LIFELONG LEARNING

Angle House Education is part of the Angle House group. It is an education platform dedicated to serving the community by sharing knowledge, developing skills and providing new experiences. During the last quarter of 2017 the platform engaged over 300 professionals across north London and Hertfordshire by holding core continued professional development lectures. The Angle House Education Symposium in September as held in The Chicken Shed Theatre, Cockfosters and covered topics such as updates on cross infection control, delivered by cross infection specialist Sandra Smith and communication with vulnerable adults delivered by speech therapist specialist

Ria Bernard. In November the Specialist Symposium was held at the Holiday Inn, Wembley and the topics discussed were updates on oral cancer with Specialist Maxillofacial surgeon Wayne Halfpenny and a specialist lecture on prosthodontics - The Ideal Implant Patient, with our very own Prosthodontist, Pareet Shah.

With the introduction of enhanced continued professional development and a growing professional community, we are pleased to announce that Angle House Education is expanding and will be offering more courses and workshops in the future.

TIP– QUEEN BE 2017/2018

In 2017 Think it Possible launched a seven month leadership programme ‘Queen Be’ focused solely on empowering young women from underprivileged backgrounds to be inspired, motivated, and empowered to rise up the ranks and follow their dreams. Seventeen young women (16 -25) were on the programme and covered a very wide demographic range of ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. This was achieved through master classes and workshops delivered by

leading women from professional industries. The sessions covered topics such as time management, networking,

public speaking, communication, entrepreneurship, goal setting and reflection. Masterclass sessions were provided by leading women who have navigated the working world to be very successful.

The Queen’s Graduated on 8th March, International Women’s Day, at Mayer Brown with The Chief Dental Officer, Sara Hurley and the first and

only Barrister of Afghan origin called to the Bar, Rehana Popal, attending as the keynote speakers. The graduation certificates were awarded by

Professor Werner Menski, Emeritus Professor of South Asian Law SOAS University, and our very own Vinnie.

TIP – BREAKING BREAD WITH A PROFESSIONAL 2018

We are proud to, once again, hold this yearly flagship event on 7th July at Spotlight in Poplar, London. CEOs and professionals from leading firms in legal, business, IT, arts, politics, finance and engineering sectors come together to unlock the raw potential from our young people (16 – 25 years old). They engage in dynamic workshops that are hands-on, interactive and help broaden the minds of attendees and demonstrate the possibilities that are open to them. These discussions also continue over lunch where young people are paired with a professional of their choice and have more of a personal discussion sharing experiences, providing advice and essentially networking in a relaxed environment. Our young people come away from this event, better informed, inspired confidence in themselves and more importantly have created meaningful relationships with professionals from some of the leading firms in the country.

To apply scan in the QR Code and follow instructions or email [email protected]. If you have any questions please speak to your Orthodontist, who will be able to give you further information. Participants will screen based on their ambitions and their commitment to the community.

TIP – BREAKING BREAD WITH LEXIS NEXIS SEPTEMBER 2018

We are proud to hold our exclusive summer holiday insight day called “Breaking Bread with Lexis Nexis – this is a unique opportunity for young people (16 – 25 years old) to step inside the workplaces of one of our prestigious partners, Lexis Nexis, and learn from them directly. There will be a wide range of lectures taking place in September to inspire and share experiences around different sectors of work and opportunities that may be available in various industries.

Participants will engage in dynamic workshops that are hands-on, interactive and help broaden your mind and demonstrate the possibilities that are open to you. These discussions also continue over a delicious lunch where you will have the chance to network and have conversations with employees sharing experiences and advice.

ANGLE HOUSE SMILES AND HOME START

Angle House Smiles is dedicated to improving the oral health of our local community through oral health education especially for young children under the age of 11. Our aim is to reduce the number of children who require premature extractions of their teeth due to dental decay.

Angle House Smiles has teamed up with Home Start a leading charity in the UK to deliver oral health messages across north London. We have attended toddler groups and also started home visits with the support of social workers and translators to help deliver the oral health message effectively. This project will continue to

be carried out throughout the year with the hope

to support as many families as possible with the aim to help communities with high risk of dental disease to

improve their oral health.

ANGLE HOUSE SMILES AND KENMORE PARK SCHOOL

Both Angle House Smiles and Kenmore Park School are dedicated to improving the oral health of children in their community and are trying to remove north London off the critical list for oral health crisis. For this reason it was decided that both organisations unite to tackle this issue together by holding oral health education talks at the school on 24th April and 25th April 2018 for the children in the nursery. In addition to this Angle House Smiles will also organise and hold an oral health awareness day on 2nd July during the healthy awareness week of Kenmore Park School, during the first week of July. The oral health awareness will be for all the children at the school with parents also being invited to attend. If you know a school that would benefit from working with Angle House Smiles please email us on [email protected].

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE WHAT YOUR SMILE WILL LOOK LIKE….BEFORE YOU START TREATMENT?

This is offered to our patients at the no obligation FREE Smile Check Assessment Appointment by one of our experienced treatment coordinators.
