It’s with great pleasure that I introduce myself to you. My name is Yiota Ioannou and I am the Executive Housekeeper for Aphrodite Hills Property Management.

With almost 30 years of experience, all in 5-Star hotels in Limassol, I decided 9 years ago, to take the biggest challenge in my career and join the Aphrodite Hills Resort family. And I’ve never regretted it!!

Here at the Resort we have an amazing, magnificent and unique place like nowhere else in Cyprus. A small paradise on earth… and because of this, housekeeping is the ambassador to the Resort - representing and maintaining the consistent high level of standards and cleanliness required.

Housekeeping is one of the Company’s most vital and essential departments. Hospitality, willingness, an innovated spirit and teamwork are the ingredients composing the success of the Housekeeping Team.

Housekeeping should not only form a duty, but a way of life. Each member of the department should feel a part of the Resort family, treating customers as they would like to be treated… anticipating and exceeding their expectations.

Offering that something extra, the detail, that will amaze, satisfy and encourage the customer to return is definitely part of our philosophy. Providing a safe, spotless and secure environment is undoubtedly the department’s main goal and objective.

Yiota Ioannou - A Face to a Name

Social Media Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn are amazing resources, allowing you to meet, interact and share information with people around the world. However, all this power also brings risk for you, your family, friends and employer. In this newsletter, we explain what these dangers are and how to use these sites securely and safely.

PrivacyA common concern with social media is protecting your personal information. Potential dangers include:

Impacting your future: Some organisations search social media sites as part of background checks. Embarrassing or incriminating photos or posts, no matter how old, could prevent you from getting hired or promoted. In addition, many universities conduct similar checks for new student applications. Privacy options may

not protect you, as these organisations can ask you to ‘Like’ or join their pages or certain posts may be archived on multiple sites.

Attacks against you: Cyber attackers can analyse your posts and use them to gain access to your or your organisation’s information. For example, they can use information you share to guess the answers to the secret questions that reset your online passwords, create targeted email attacks against you (called spearfishing) or call someone in your organisation pretending to be you. In addition, these attacks can spill into the physical world, such as identifying where you work or live.

Accidently harming your employer: Criminals or competitors can use any sensitive information you post about your organisation against your employer. In addition, your posts can potentially cause reputational harm for your organisation. Be

sure to check your organisation’s policies before posting anything about your job. In addition, some of your social media posts may be monitored.

Social MediaThe best protection is to limit what you post. Yes, privacy options can provide some protection. However, they are often confusing and change frequently without your knowledge. What you thought was private can quickly become public for various reasons. In addition, the privacy of your posts is only as secure as the people you share them with. The more friends or contacts you share with, the more likely that information will become public. You should assume anything you post can or will become a public and permanent part of the internet.

Finally, be aware of what friends are posting about you. If they post something you are not comfortable with, ask them to take it down.

Page 17: APRIL 2017 Volume 13 Issue 4 Happy Easternewsletter.aphroditehills.com/2017/pdf/APR_AH_newsletter.pdf · 6, 18, 20, 21, 22 RETREAT SPA Unique Opportunity… Unique Offer April 2017

17

If they refuse or ignore you, contact the social media site and ask the site to remove the content for you. At the same time, be respectful of what you post about others.

SecurityIn addition to privacy concerns, here are some steps to help protect your social media accounts and online activities:

Login: Protect each of your accounts with a strong, unique password and do not share them with anyone else. In addition, many social media sites support stronger authentication, such as two-step verification.Alwaysenablethesestrongerauthentication methods whenever possible. Finally, do not use your social media account to log in to other sites; if it gets hacked, then all of your accounts are vulnerable.

Privacy Settings: If you do use privacy settings, make sure you review and test them regularly. Social media sites often change privacy settings and it is easy to make a mistake. In addition, many apps and

services let you tag your location to content that you post (called geotagging). Regularly check these settings if you wish to keep your physical location private.

Encryption: Social media sites use encryption called HTTPS to secure your online connections to the site. Some sites (like Twitter and Google+) enable this by default, while others require you to manually enable HTTPS. Check your social media account settings and enable HTTPS as the default connection whenever possible.

Social media sites are fun and powerful, but be careful what you share and with whom.

Email: Be suspicious of emails that claim to come from social media sites. These can easily be spoofed attacks sent by cyber criminals. The safest way to reply to such messages is to log in to your social media website directly, perhaps from a saved bookmark, and then read and reply to any messagesornotificationsfromthewebsite.

Malicious Links/Scams: Be cautious of suspicious links or potential scams posted on social media sites. Bad guys use social media to spread their own attacks. Just because a message is posted by a friend does not mean that message is really from them; their account may have been compromised. If a family member or friend has posted an odd message you cannot verify (i.e., they have been robbed and need you to send money), call them on their mobile phone or contact them by some other means to confirm the message is truly from them.

Mobile Apps: Most social media sites provide mobile apps to access your online accounts. Make sure you download these mobile apps from a trusted site and that your smartphone is protected with a strong password. If your smartphone is unlocked when you lose it, anyone can access your social media sites through your smartphone and start posting as you.

On Wednesday 22nd March 2017, Aphrodite Hills Golf had the pleasure to host another successful Golf Clinic for our Members and Property Owners, sponsored by associate partners Qatar Airways.

Despite the weather conditions in the afternoon it was a great evening enjoyed by all. The Golf Clinic started at 4.30pm at the Driving Range, where our Golf Professionals had set-up 3 stations; the chipping area, the pitching area and long drive shots using the FlightScope. It was an excellent opportunity for all the attendees to learn different techniques in each area. Our Golf Professionals also launched new equipment from Srixon and Cleveland, which will be available for sale in our Golf Pro Shop very soon.

Following the Golf Cl inic, the event continued at the Golf Clubhouse Restaurant with drinks and finger food, with Qatar Airways presenting the new destination and fares to all of our guests. Andrew Darker, the Director of Golf, concluded the evening by presenting the forthcoming changes and upgrades to the golf course.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us at this superb event, but mostly we would like to thank our sponsors - Qatar Airways for their support throughout 2017.

Last but not least, we would like to pass our thanks to our Golf Professionals - Giles Johnson, Danny Heard, Scott Beaven and Robert Reynolds for their fantastic assistance and who made this event possible.

The latest trends in hairstyles…Spring is already upon us, so enjoy the lovely weather and follow the latest trending hair styles, cuts, andcoloursthatwilldefinethenew season and a new you!1. Super SleekUse your hair straighteners - straight, shiny, and centre-parted hair is one of the biggest trends for 2017. But this style only works if your hair looks healthy - not fried. Be sure to mist a heat protectant through your hair before touching it with a straightener. 2. The High PonytailSlick your hair up… all the way up! Done in a rumpled texture or stick-straight; the high ponytail adds both an elegance and ease to every ensemble. Bonus: the tighter you secure it, the more lifted your face looks.3. Flat WavesFlat iron waves are the new curling iron waves. Just create a bend in your hair by pushing it upward, then seal the shape with a few clamps of your iron. Release and repeat. Keep your ends straight for the most polishedfinish.

4. Growing-Out ShagThe ‘shag’ was the surprising hit haircut in 2016. But those layers and fringes have to grow out sometime. In 2017, we’ll see the beautiful result of that. With hair that hits just past the shoulders and fringes that are long enough to be split down the middle, the grown-out shag is the haircut to keep an eye on this year. If anything, it’s a way to hint at a shag without giving it your full commitment.

5. The Hair FlipThe easiest hairstyle trend to copy this season - the hair flip. All it requires is you to flip your hair from one side to the other, creating tons of volume as a result. 6. Slick & ShinyShay Mitchell did it, so did Gigi Hadid and Kim Kardashian. It was all over Spring 2017 Fashion Week. Slick, shiny hair that looks like its soaking wet, is a 2017 hair trend that can look just as good off the catwalk! Just work a heavy dose of styling cream from your roots to mid-lengths to get that unmistakable shine with a little bit of hold.7. Golden Bronde In certain lighting, it’s blonde, in others it’s golden brown. This transformative hair colour trend is called golden bronde, and it’s the perfect warm-toned hair colour that can be adjusted to work on all skin tones. So, if you’ve never considered going blonde before, maybe this is your year.

Air conditioning - stay comfortable and save cash Dear Owner,

Before the hot summer is upon us, we are recommending that our clients call us to arrange to have the Maintenance Team perform a thorough and complete inspection of their air-conditioning systems.

Throughout our many years of experience we have learned that by taking certain preventative measures such as correcting minor electrical problems, costly repairs and replacement of parts can often be avoided. We highly recommend this inspection at this time of the year as invariably during the hottest period of the summer we are inundated with air-conditioning service requests, thus minimising the risk of ruining your holidays with unnecessary callouts.

Why not call us by the end of the month and enjoy 30% discount off the price… ensuring we can help you with a cool and comfortable summer?

Preventive Maintenance Tips & Savings

Saving money feels good. Heating and cooling our living spaces is a creature comfort most of us can’t live without. The average house spends €2,500 a year on energy bills - with about 44% just for A/C and heating. With rising prices across the board, it has never been more important to think of new ways to cut back.

As air conditioning experts, we have found 5 steps to help you stay comfortable and save money.

How often your a ir condit ioner is maintained will impact your wallet

1) Keep a steady temperature - €180 per year

Keep your air conditioning at a constant temperature - we recommend 24-26 degrees. Once the room has cooled the unit will only use the minimum power needed to maintain that temperature.

2) Dirty coil - 30% increase

You’ve probably never thought about the coil in your AC unit before. But here is a good reason why you should. A dirty coil

can increase your bill by 30%! With a clean coil your unit doesn’t have to run as long and your unit will last longer. Just make it a point to clean your coil. Your wallet will thank you.

3) Old filter syndrome - save 5%

Adirtyairfilter isnotonlyunhygienic,butit’s expensive too.

4) Friction is expensive - save 5%

The only way to stop friction from taking your money is to keep the parts in your unit lubricated. Lube will keep the motors running smooth and keep your equipment from wearing down. This will reduce your energy bill by about 5% each month and save you money from extra repairs or part replacements.

5) Get an Annual Preventive Maintenance Service

Maintenance for your air conditioning unit is like Botox for your face! It prevents the natural aging process. Normally, units only last about 15 years. Every year your unit will lose 5% efficiency compared to the year before. You can prevent this slow decline just by getting a preventive

maintenance once a year. The cost of regular maintenance will pay off in the end. Enjoy piece of mind that your unit won’t stop working unexpectedly. Annual maintenance includes: cleaning and disinfection of the indoor unit; inspection and testing of all electrical connections and cables; checking and testing of all mechanical pipes and connections; checking of refrigerant levels.

Air Conditioning Maintenance

If you want your air conditioner to last all summer long with minimal issues, annual maintenance is essential. During maintenance, a Technician will tune-up your unit to ensure it is clean and running efficientlyandsafely.

With an air conditioning tune-up, you can not only worry less about a breakdown but youcanalsobenefitfrom:

• Moreenergy-efficientcooling• Lowercoolingcosts• Moreconsistenttemperatures• Fewerairconditionerrepairs• Longerlife• Betterindoorairquality• Moredependableindoorcomfort

Common Ground27 April 2017, 20:00, Ibrahim’s KhanCommon Ground aims to create an artistic dia-logue between children from the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities through work-shops on the distinctively Cypriot art technique ofcementography.Introducedforthefirsttimeby the innovative Cypriot artist Christoforos Savva in the 1960’s, this relatively new art form is the basis of this bi-communal project. The project invites the group of children from Pafos to use clay and stones collected on the “other side” to create cementography works imagining ‘A day in the life ofKyrenia’ (in the Northern part of Cyprus) and children from Kyrenia to create cementography works with materials from the South imagining ‘A day in the life of Pafos’. Both groups of children are confronted with the life of a city “on the other side” which they have nev-

er even visited. Bahar Chirali is in chargeof the project in Kyrenia. Sylvia Nikolaides and Nicolas Iordanou will create a short documentary about the project which will be presented at the Ibra-him’s Khan. Curated by Miriam McConnon.

Hero-ismsA collaboration between the European Capi-tals of Culture Pafos2017 and Wroclaw2016 (Poland)28 - 29 April 2017, AttikonThe Centre of Performing Arts MITOS partici-pates in the program of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 with a three year project with the title Hero-isms. The focus of this pro-ject is the strengthening of intercultural aware-ness through a better understanding of the other, which of course entails an appreciation of personal responsibility. This programme draws material from the European programme enti-tled The Songs of My Neighbours (2013-15) and develops parallel actions in the area of Moutta-los aimed at preparing and collecting material for the production of The Persians by Aeschy-lus. The programme will be implemented in three phases and includes an on-site course of dealing with diversity in the Mouttalos area, the presentation of the sounds of the ancient tragedy The Persians by Aeschylus as well as the results from the European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016. The third phase includes the production of The Persians by Aeschylus in Pa-fos at the Ancient Odeon. In collaboration with the Grotowski Institute in Pafos and Limassol.

Music at the ThresholdApril 2017This series of events includes three concerts linked by the particularities of the countries where they will be held, promoting the general co-existence between historical periods, cul-tures and traditions which (at frst) seem to have nothing in common, but music is the link be-tween them. The inspiration for these events is drawn from the routes followed by Kings, Apos-tles, conquerors and others who left their mark on Pafos. The stages will be set at the temple of Agia Kyriaki, the pillar of St. Paul and the grave of the Danish King Eric I (also known as Eric the Good), connecting the past to the present and the modern travellers to those who have passed by and left their traces in Pafos.
