Your complaints were heard and action was taken.

We are all very aware that the February luncheon entrée was a disappoint-

met with the Timber Creek Ballroom catering manager and the Timber Creek

Food and Beverage director last week. I expressed our disappointment and

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month so this year’s picnic theme is “Let’s Get

Moving!” There will be lots of events and activities for everyone to enjoy. Prizes of absolutely no

monetary value will be awarded, and volunteers are needed to make the BBQ a success. Joe

The first Individual Tournament is going to be held @ Peach Tree June 12 along with the SIR 98 regular Tournament. So if you are interested in playing the Individual Tournament let me know and I will sign you up.You must send me an E'Mail and I will respond telling you are signed up.Also if you would like to play Peach Tree before the Tounament John Boyer Sir Group Yuba City/Marysville will be playing a Tournament on April 17 @ 0900 let me know if you would like to play in that Tournament and I will compile a list two weeks before they play and let John know so he can make room for us.Also the cost for the Individ-ual Tournament is $3.00 of which I will collect the day of the Tournament (June 12) ...Thx's Larry Hill....916-337-8933 or E'Mail [email protected]

We have received expressions of interest from a number of Branch 98 members re-garding our Finance/Investment Group activity. Alan Ensign has offered to help coordinate the launch of a second activity similar to ours. If you haven’t yet put your name on our list and have a desire to learn more about the tremendous value we realize from our ‘brain trust’, please let me, Alan or any member of our team know so we can contact you to dis-cuss what we do and the benefits we glean from our time together. We meet the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM on a rotating basis in team mem-bers’ homes for comfortable and open discussions regarding finance and investing. At our March Finance/Investment meeting we again tried to assess market trends and the current and longer term impact of the Presidential election on our investment strategy. Alex Borra presented an update on Equity Traded Funds by sectors. In the last three months the top five sectors have gener-ated a return of approximately 16% while the bottom five has done 7%. The S&P 500 index has in-creased 10% during the same period. This strongly reinforces (again) the concept of investing in the right place at the right time. Under the Trump administration the market is doing some paradigm shifts and timing of this impact is still a question that we try and unwind. Under our Finance topic we had a valuable discussion regarding credit card rewards and cash

back programs. It is wonderful to have a group which approaches any topic with a broad range of ideas and experiences.

By Brien Hensley

The restaurant nicely set up a table for 12 before our arrival. The SSS Search for Superb Burger at Five Guys was enjoyable, but not the group's favorite. Everyone munched on the free peanuts, however, while waiting for our burgers. Five Guys rating was 3.5. So far, Moo Moos is tops followed by Habit Burger, then Five Guys then Crush Burger. A few guys commented that they had already taken their family to Moo Moos! Please join us on Tues. April 18th when we try Chubby's Diner at 427 Roseville Square. Please RSVP to me or just show up. Spring Bocce Ball

TICKETS GOING FAST

Our spring branch 98 bocce ball tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12th, after the month-ly SIRS luncheon. The tournament has been expand-ed to accommodate up to 20 participants maxi-mum. In the past, these tournaments have often filled up with some wait listed as substitutes. So it is im-portant to sign up in advance to guarantee a spot in the tournament. You can just show up the day of the tournament but will only be able to play if space is still available. If you do not get into the tournament, there should still be an opportunity to just play bocce ball for fun. We will play the tournament with 12, 16 or 20 par-ticipants. On the day of the tournament, for all who show up, the order on the advance signup sheet will first be used to register players followed by anyone who shows up not on the list. Once we register 12, for example, we need to be able to register four more players to run the tournament at 16. Once we have 16 players registered, we need to be able to register four more players to run the tournament at 20. So the earlier you sign up greater the chance of being as-sured you can participate. The entrance fee is $5.00 per person and can be paid at the time of the tournament. Cash prizes plus medals will be provided to the top TWO teams. If you want to sign up in advance, please be sure to let me know by either leaving a message on my phone at 773-5504 or e-mail me at [email protected]. Morning Play Date: For the month of April, our morning play date is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26th at 9:30 a.m. at the Sun City Roseville Bocce Ball Courts. Anyone is invited to just show up (young or old, new or experienced, grumpy or kind). This is the time to just play for fun and is also a great time to learn how to play bocce ball if you are interested. (916) 773-5504 or at [email protected]

Spring 2017 Bocce Ball Tournament

Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Roseville

We are survivors! Consider some of the changes we have witnessed: We were born before television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, laser beams, Frisbees, the pill, radar, credit cards, split atoms, ball-point pens, pantyhose, dishwashers, clothes dryers, electric blankets, air condition-ers, drip-dry clothes, computers, and before anybody walked on the moon! We got married first and then lived together! How quaint! In our time, closets were for clothes, not for "coming out" of, bunnies were small rabbits, and rabbits were not Volkswagens. Designer jeans were scheming girls named Jean and Jeanne and having a meaningful rela-tionship meant getting along well with our cousins. We thought fast food was what you ate during Lent, and outer space was the back of the Bijou Theatre. We were before house-husbands, gay rights, computer dating, dual careers, day care centers, group therapy, and nursing homes. We never heard of FM radio, CDs, computers, cellu-lar phones, artificial hearts, word processors, yogurt, and guys wearing earrings. For us, time-sharing meant togetherness, not computers or con-dominiums; a 'chip" meant a piece of wood; hardware meant screws and nails, and software wasn't even a word! In 1940, "Made in Japan" meant junk and the term "making out" referred to how you did on your exam. Pizzas, McDonalds, Burger Kings, and instant coffee were unheard of. We hit the scene when there were five and dime stores, where you actually bought things for five and ten cents. Snelgrove's or Farr's sold ice cream cones for nickel or dime. For one nickel you could ride a streetcar, buy a Coke, or enough stamps to mail one letter and two postcards. You could buy a new Chevy coupe for $600, but who could afford one? A pity, too, because gas was 11 cents a gallon! In our day grass was mowed, coke was a cold drink and pot was some-thing you cooked in. Rock music was Grandma's lullaby. We were certainly not before the difference between the sexes was dis-covered but we were surely before the sex change; we had to make do with what we had. And, we were the last generation that was so dumb as to think you needed a husband to have a baby! No wonder we are so con-fused and that there is such a generation gap today! BUT WE SURVIVED!!! WHAT BETTER REASON TO CELEBRATE? Quotes: When a man falls into his anecdotage, it is a sign for him to retire.-- Benjamin Disraeli Robert Strand..."Moments for Grandparents"

The next Wine Group event will be held at Naggier Winery in Grass

Valley on April 21. The event will include some small appetizers, a home-brought lunch or a lunch purchased from the winery's Bistro and a small dessert. We will taste four of their wines: one white and three reds. While the tastings will be held in a private room, members are free to sit on the expansive patio afterward to enjoy more wine and to spend a relaxing afternoon in a beautiful setting surrounded by grape vines and a pond. And, the wives attending will have an opportunity to browse the small gift shop attached to the winery's tasting room! It plans to be a fun and enjoyable event.

Don’t Snooze, You Loose

April’s Guest Speaker is Bill George CEO Nimbus Films

Building the Transcontinental Railroad Bill George is an enthusiastic authority on the history, cul-ture and cuisine of California and the West. He lives and works in the Mother Lode in the foothills of the Sierra Ne-vada, a region of the world that amazes you with natural beauty. Bill’s presentation at our April luncheon will be on one of the greatest engineering and construction projects in the history of America, the building of the transcontinental rail-road from Sacramento over the Sierra Nevada in the 1860s. In 2010 Bill formed Nimbus Films to tell the story of the building of the first transcontinental railroad over the Sierra Nevada, and then wrote the book “Rails, Tales and Trails” that explained how to find the old railroad sites, along with museums, towns and restaurants in the area. Bill followed that with a film portrait of Newcastle, California one of the most important agriculture, railroad and gold rush towns. He then produced a documentary film about the Chinese experience in California. Realizing that there are many great documentary films about the west, Bill launched the Golden West Film Festival in 2014 in the Gold Rush town of Auburn, California.

The Antelope Greens Spring & Summer League begins Friday morning April 21st at 7:30 A.M. and continues each Friday morning until Oc-tober 13th 2017. Important Note: Members of the AG golf league do not have to play every Friday, but only on selected dates or tournaments of their choice. Shortly all member players from last year as well as those that have expressed an interest in joining will receive an e-mail with attachments for the season Sched-ule and the Rules of the League. In order to play in the AG league, you must be signed up as a member/player and pay the following fees. All members will pay a one-time entry fee of $25.00 (Cash only) the first date you start play with the group. These fees are used for costs of running the league with the majority used for our prize fund. Every Friday that you choose to play, each player will pay their green fees di-rectly to the course plus $1.00 for the league to enhance our prize fund. The prize monies will be paid out to the winners of the weekly events at the end of the season at an awards luncheon. All players must also pay a mandatory $2.00 fee to the league as coverage for hole-in-one insurance. A portion of the insurance fund is used to immediately award the hole-in-golfer, which may help him to carry out the tradition of buy-ing his fellow golfers a drink to celebrate his achievement. Any SIR member wishing to join the AG golf group for the 2017 season, should contact Len Sampaio at (916) 797-9391 for additional information and to receive an e-mail with the rules of the league and tournament schedule. Thanks.

For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt? We find ourselves at a loss when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt'! Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way. Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, who married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sher-lock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock. Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Horse. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt. Now when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt', you can correct them. Sincerely, Crock O. Schitt
