SFMS Quarterly Meeting UpdateAs of 15 April 2016, Dennis from GMS called me tonight to let me knowthat no one had registered for hotel rooms for the meeting. The roomrate is only available until May 12th. We also need to have 10 roomsbooked as soon as possible so the SFMS does not have to foot the billfor the unused 10 rooms. I am signing up tonight. Treasurer's Report

2016 SFMS Club & Show Liability InsuranceCharlotte Caughman, Assistant Treasurer & Liability Liaison

We have only received dues from about half of our clubs! Insurance payments are always

Page 5: April 2016 Lodestaramfed.org/sfms/_pdf/Lodestar April 2016.pdf · 2016. 4. 17. · Cabochons Dave Bergquist Opals Carl Talbott Casting Bill Harr Polymer Clay Sandra Davis Chain-Maille-Beg

due in early or late Spring unless our contract is up for negotiation then it is an earlier date.Your SFMS website is always a great source for getting information for lots of things – evenmembership and insurance questions and dates, and forms to fill out and return with yourpayments. Please use our website.

There are two forms regarding insurance you must send to me. If you do not sponsor ashow/event then do not bother with the request for certificate form. These forms provide mewith the necessary information about your club to process your insurance application.Without this information, I am simply lost. Below, find listed some of the on-going problems Iam having.

….Clubs identifying with just initials – this causes extra work and headaches.

….No signatures on checks or forms

….Forms not completed

…. # of members not listed and/or not paid

….We must have the request for certificate form emailed to me so I can email to our ins. Co.If you do not have adobe then perhaps someone else in your club does.

….Do not write the checks to me but to SFMS.

So all in all you have the following monies to send in to SFMS at the beginning of eachyear:

$2.00 per member for membership fees-----to membership chairman

$2.00 per member for Liability insurance fees to me, the insurance LIAISON

$220.00 per each event/show your club represents, to me, the insurance liaison

If you will help insure your paperwork is correct, then I will have more time to honor otherrequests from different clubs. One request was providing a summary of coverage formembership and show liability to each club. Our insurance rep. has agreed to send thisstatement to the email address listed on the request for certificate form and the clubinformation form.

If you have paid your show/event insurance but not the membership liability, your showcertificate may not arrive in time.

Please direct all questions/concerns to me at 864-542-5198 or email:[email protected]. Presidents, if your club name does not appear on thefollowing list, your club has not paid. Payments were due 3/15/16.

US Forest Service Plan: Nantahala and Pisgah National ForestsThe US Forest Service is currently in the process of revising the management plan for theNantahala and Pisgah National Forests. This plan, as always, has broad implications for theaccess and use of the lands for citizens, businesses etc. One aspect of particular interest toRock, Gem and Mineral collectors is the opportunity for and regulation of rock/mineralcollecting on these lands.

Currently, the USFS is drafting the plan and has invited comment on the draft plan. This isour opportunity to try to minimize or limit any negative impact on our ability to collect andenjoy our hobby on these public lands. It is strongly recommended that you make your voiceheard.

The following will direct you to the current draft and comment section. The primary link is:

http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/nfsnc/home/?cid=fseprd491137

There is a link in the paragraph titled "What will be in the Draft Revised Forest Plan" that willtake you to the Public Input page. You can also sign up for email updates.

To read the draft regulations for "rockhounding" scroll down to the table of contents and clickon "Recreation (including wildlife)" This will open a pdf. There are also references in othersections as well.

Please insert this message into your club newsletters, and/or pass along to other interestedparties. The more comments we can provide, the better.
