Easter blessings to you and the

grace and peace from God through

Jesus Christ which surpasses all un-

derstanding! As we enter this Easter

season—the time between Easter and

Pentecost—we remember and we cel-

ebrate the cost of the cross’s life-giving

victory. The Easter season lasts 7

Sundays and culminates on Pentecost.

We celebrate and remember that we

worship the Living God. We prepare

and learn how to live resurrection lives.

We worship Christ, who was dead but

is risen. We worship Jesus Christ

who,

“is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven,”

(Colossians 1:18–23)

The Easter season is a season of

new life and celebration. And we have

much to celebrate this season. The

great and exciting news (besides the

resurrection, of course) is the lift is be-

ing installed in the church this month.

All of the schedules, permits, architec-

tural drawings are secured and work

will begin, at the earliest, the week af-

ter Easter and at the latest, the first

week of April. The installation should

take approximately 2 weeks, so we will

have much to celebrate during the Fel-

lowship time at the end of the month.

The installation of the lift serves as a

good reminder to all of us to make sure

we are keeping up with the building

fund pledge drive. As a reminder, our

hope is that each family is able to give

$32.50 over and above their regular

tithe to the church in order to help pay

for needed renovations to the church

building. We have already replace all

the non-stain glass windows in the en-

tire church and after the lift is installed

plan to expand the turn-around drive

beside the building to accommodate

more handicapped parking. We want

to ensure that our building is accessi-

ble to all, so all people can participate

in all aspects of the life of the church.

So I encourage you to keep up the

good work. And I thank all who have

faithfully given over the last year and a

half and encourage all of us to keep at

it for another year and a half.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Nick

TRIBUTES TO THE BIBLE

Submitted by Shirley Fluharty

This Book contains

The Mind of God,

The way of Salvation,

The doom of sinners,

And the Happiness of Believers.

Its Doctrine is Holy,

Its precepts are binding,

Its histories are true

And its decisions immutable.

Read it to be wise,

Believe it to be safe.

Practice it to be holy.

It contains light to direct you,

Food to support you,

And comfort to cheer you.

Christ is its subject,

Our good its design,

The Glory of God its end.

It should fill the memory,

Rule the heart and guide the feet.

Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth,

and a river of pleasure.

It is given to you here in this life,

Will be opened at the judgement

And is established forever.

It involves the highest responsibility,

Will reward the greatest labor,

And condemns all who trifle with its

Sacred Contents.

TREASURES

One by one he took them from me,

All the things I valued most,

Until I was empty-handed;

Every glittering toy was lost.

And I walked earth’s highways, grieving

In my rags and poverty

Till I heard his voice inviting,

“Lift your empty hands to me!”

So I held my hands toward heaven,

And he filled them with a store

Of his own transcendent riches,

Till they could contain no more.

And at last I comprehended

With my mind stupid and dull,

That God could not pour his riches

Into hands already full!

-Martha Snell Nicholson

AVOIDING TEMPTATION Our 10-year old loves playing on his father’s

tablet but may use only the touchscreen be-

cause he’s misused the keyboard and stylus.

One day, after receiving permission to play, he

detached and handed over the forbidden ob-

jects. His dad said, “Just leave them there,”

but our son replied, “No, I might be tempted to

use them.”

We routinely pray, “Lead us not into tempta-

tion”, hoping God will almost magically keep us

out of trouble even as we stray close to entice-

ments: we buy high-calorie treats while intend-

ing to “eat healthy”. We visit big-box stores and

spend money we don’t have. We gather with

gossipy friends, full aware that such talk is sin-

ful and harmful.

Perhaps we should be more proactive about

removing temptations. Perhaps “Lead me not

into temptation” means “God, help me keep

myself away from that which tempts me toward

poor choices.” Amen!
