Run Seal Beach is quickly approachingand the time to register is now! With over4,300 already registered and 300 kids for the1K Fun Run, both will likely cap out. Also, there are special discounts for our militaryfamilies and active duty. Be sure to reachout to the Run for those rates.

Race Director, Marc Loopesko said, “Weare thrilled with the community response. This year we have a strong platform ofsponsors, good registration numbers and ateam of volunteers second to none. We areexpecting the best run for our town for ourRuby Anniversary.”

Though the directors — Marc Loopesko,Elizabeth Kane and Seth Eaker — are theboard, in many ways the organizingcommittee makes it all work smoothly.Returning to run the Kids Fun Run & Zoneare Michelle Samuelson and Sue Dvonch.Working with Lauren Warfield, who hasbeen part of the Run since she did the KidsFun Run, they produce not only the mostamazing little run with a big heart, they alsokeep all the children entertained and safe.

Working closely with Marc are GregPhillips and Tim Kelsey. Greg works on thecourse set-up and break-down while Timmanages the Start line area. Workingtirelessly at the Finish Line is Jo Dawson, who announces the top finishers in eachage group. Often the Run is asked if there isa finisher medal — No,, but there will be aspecial commemorative item for the RubyAnniversary this year. Also, the Miss SealBeach and Miss Teen Seal Beach court willassist with the awards ceremony.

Coordinating from the police departmentis Sgt. Phil Gonshak, who has been a partof the Race for the last five years. Through along day for him and his family, he diligentlygives back to his town with his lovely wifeStephanie and their three children. He said,

Run Seal Beach 40th Ruby Anniversary: Who are we?“Though I am an employee of the City, I ammore happy to be a resident and proud tosay I am a member of the Run Seal Beachorganizing committee.”

Past Chamber President Deb Machenworks with Gina Phillips to produce andmanage the Vendor / Sponsor Village and T-shirt sales. Look for many of our sponsorsand vendors in Eisenhower Park. AnytimeFitness will execute the official warm-up forthe race and — thanks to the generosity ofDendreon, Energy Tubulars, Scan HealthPlan and our other sponsors — much of therace prior to the event is fully funded. As a100% volunteer produced, supported andexecuted event, the Run would not besuccessful if not for the City of Seal Beachand especially the volunteers who come outfrom the Lions Club and the Los AlamitosUnified School District – from booster clubsto students, teachers and parents.

This year, we will also have Pastor DonShoemaker and John Heideman singing theNational Anthem prior to the start of the race.Look for key remarks from Mayor ElleryDeaton and McGaugh Principal Dr. Gargas.Watch for more details, including streetclosures and neighborhood advisories.

Be sure to thank the volunteers! We alllove Seal Beach and helping thecommunity. We will all look for you at thestart line this year on April 5 at 8 a.m. If youhaven’t, be sure to secure your runner’s bibnow at www.RunSealBeach.com and keepan eye out for more information!
