By D.K. [email protected] Collier Regional Park LivingstonRoad is now the yellow brick road to afantasy for children and adults alike. It leadsto the recently opened CMON (the GolisanoChildrens Museum of Naples) located justover the border from Lee into Collier County and a bit south of Immokalee Road at theNorth Collier Regional Park. A recent mem-bers-only Saturday at CMON was full of giggles, laughter and busy children livingout the stories from their imagination, thedreams theyve held since their parentswhispered about a place just for children toplay and learn.

Here we have gathered comments froma few of the many voices echoing across the13 themed areas contained in the two-story museum.

Curious Kids Exhibit a place for preteenvisitors to hang out, create, talk and discover.

Olivia Akers, 11, and her sister Alexa, 8,waited for a very long time and were sohappy it opened as they explored activitiesin the WGCU Curious Kids room for theolder youth up to age 14. My mom is happy,too added Olivia who was busy with clothand scissors in the sewing section.

I want to be a fashion designer. Theplain color is here (on the mannequin),and I am adding sparkle and stripes on thetop. This is my favorite place so far.

The Produce Market a realistic, child-sized market where shoppers load carts with

fresh produce, eggs, milk and boxed goods and cashiers check them out at a real conveyor belt. Produce comes from The Farm where gardeners pick produce and load it onto a truck.

I like shopping the best, picking thefruit, putting it in the shopping car t, addedAlexa Akers. Theres a real scanner, too.The Produce Market was a busy place with

CMON and Hear the Childrens Voices Minding Malicious Monofilam eBy Heather [email protected] Springs Monofilament lines,more commonly known as fishing lines,have plagued the waters of Bonita Springsand Southwest Florida for years.

When a fishing line becomes tangled,the simplest option is to cut it. But whathappens when a line sits in the water? Itdoesnt just disintegrate. It becomes en-tangled in the mangroves, creating a dangerto birds and fish. It can drown birds,

prevent fish from utilizing their gills proand even become so ensnared on a bbeak that they starve to death.

Since the Imperial River Conservwas formed in 1991, their missionbeen to keep the waters in and aroBonita Springs not only beautiful andvironmentally safe for birds and owildlife, but also enjoyable for boaterrecreational users.
