It will be the MDRRMO who will forward the documents to the OCD Regional Office which will in turn subject the same to the NDRRMC. 16 inmates escape in Calbayog City Jail breakAuthorities in Calbayog City are

trying to hunt down the inmates who escaped from Calbayog City Jail at 9:30 in the morning, today, April 2. Calbayog City Chief of Police Elmer Cinco in a phone patch with the Philippine Information Agency confirmed the Jail Break in the city, saying this happened while the inmates were having Bible Study. He added that Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) immediately called the Calbayog City PNP station for augmentation. BJMP already accounted the 87 inmates less the sixteen escapees. At least sixteen armed prisoners escaped and are now subject to hot pursuit operations, Cinco said. The list of escapees were identified as Romeo Coligado Jr with rape case from Barangay Hamorawon, Calbayog City, Crisanto Delos Reyes with frustrated murder case from Barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City, Romeo Penote with attempted rape

case of Barangay Danao, Calbayog City, Dindo Calagos Magbutay with rape case from Brangay Cabucnacao, Calbayog City, Ian Pante with murder case of Barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City. Cinco said initial investigation indicated that the jail guards revealed that inmates run away from the jail towards the north, in the direction of barangays Navarro, Kili-kili and Luok. Hot pursuit operation is being conducted by joint elements from PNP Calbayog, BJMP, Samar Police Provincial Office, Philippine Army elements from 43rd and 63rd Infantry Battalion and 801st Brigade Right after the incident, Cinco disclosed that they have established a command post inside BJMP compound in Calbayog City. OCD starts distribution of gov’t financial assistance to families of dead, injured Yolanda victims

The Office of Civil Defense has started the distribution of

government assistance to nearest of kin of dead or injured victims of the Super Typhoon Yolanda in Eastern Visayas. It was learned that early this week, the OCD distributed the financial assistance to the second batch of 109 claimants, 101 were for dead victims and 8 were injured survivors, from Tacloban City with 76 dead and 6 injured; Palo with 1 dead and 1 injured; and Tanauan with 7 dead and 1 injured, all in the province of Leyte; and Basey in Samar with 14 dead victims. Earlier, the financial assistance for the first batch numbering 106 from Basey, Samar; Julita, Pastrana, Palo and Tacloban City in Leyte, were released. For this

batch, 101 were for dead and 5 for injured victims were handed over to the claimants from Basey with 9 dead and 1 injured victims; Julita with 1 dead; Pastrana with 3 dead victims; Palo with 10 dead and 1 injured victims; and Tacloban City with 78 dead and 3 injured victims.. Five batches of claims have been sent to the NDRRMC for final processing. For the first three batches, funds have been downloaded for distribution. The 4th and 5th batches were sent to the NDRRMC on March 10 and are now process for release. For the 3rd batch of 123 claimants, 119 are for dead while 4 are for injured victims. These claimants are from Tacloban City, 86 dead, 4 injured; Basey, 14 dead; Tanauan, 11; Dulag, 3; Isabel, 2; and

1 each for Palo, Tunga and Tolosa. For the 4th batch, some 219 claims are included with151 dead and 68 injured victims from Basey, Samar; Tolosa, Pastrana, Tanauan, Palo, Tacloban City and Jaro in Leyte province.Moreover, for the 5th batch, there are 107 claims for dead victims from Tolosa¸Tacloban City, Isabel and Tanauan in Leyte; and Basey in Samar. The OCD is still accepting requests for financial assistance from the victims’ nearest of kin. The claimants may just submit the requirements to the local disaster risk reduction and management officer who will in turn submit the same to the Regional DRRMC. (PIA 8)

In order to help the Yolanda survivors ease from the burden of rising

prices of basic necessities and prime commodities, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Leyte has successfully conducted seventeen (17) diskwento caravans from November last year until the month of March this year. Based on the Diskwento Caravan Sales Report signed by Department of Trade and Industry Leyte Provincial Director Desiderio P. Belas Jr., it disclosed that as early as November and December, days and weeks after Yolanda wrought havoc in many parts of the region, the government saw the need of the people to prime commodities, thus, eight (8) diskuwento caravans were immediately conducted with the participation of ten (10) distributors in 19, 632 no. of transactions. Said diskuwento caravans have

benefitted not only the consumers but also the manufacturers, producers and distributors of different products. The total number of sales generated in these eight caravans amounted to P9,087,916.55. Furthermore, from January to March 2014, nine (9) diskuwento caravans were conducted. Five (5) in January, two (2) in February and two (2) in March. Said caravans have generated P7.4 million in sales. Sales generated in January totaled to P3,819,103.02, P2,768,001.01 in February and P814,247.67 in March. Now that five months have passed since Yolanda devastated Leyte, diskuwento caravans will be conducted once a month as more public markets, retail stores and other businesses have reopened. (PIA-8)

Director Noval said that the 1st batch of participants will be from Regions 6, 7 and 8 to be held in Cebu City on April 22-24, 2014. The 2nd batch are those from Regions 9, 11 and ARMM in Davao City on April 28-30, 2014 while the 3rd batch will be for those from Regions 10, 11, 12, and 13 to be held in General Santos City
