ONLINE WORSHIP
PRELUDE When I Survey the Wondrous Cross arr. Larry Shackley Brian Ward, Piano
* CALL TO WORSHIP Jeff Hunter based on Galatians 6:14 God forbid that I should boast of anything but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. In him is salvation, life, and resurrection from the dead; by him we are redeemed and set free. May God be gracious to us and bless us, and make his face shine upon us.
* INVOCATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (Using sins) Libby Piotrowski
* UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN written by Rev. Mindi Welton-MitchellWe confess to You, our Lord and Savior, that we have betrayed and denied You, forgotten and doubted You. When our faith is tested, we wonder where You are. When we see injus-tice in the world, we often stand by, we turn our backs, we ignore the cries of others. We confess that again and again we deny You and betray You with our silence when we fail to proclaim Your Good News, when we fail to live out Your teachings and love our neighbor as ourselves. Forgive us, O God, and help us to truly repent. Help us to remember Your sacrifice, Your love, and to know Your forgiveness.
* RESPONSE Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

My song is love unknown, my Savior’s love to me, love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be.
O who am I that for my sake my Lord should take frail flesh and die?He came from his blest throne salvation to bestow,
but men made strange, and none the longed-for Christ would know. But O my friend, my friend indeed, who at my need, his life did spend.
Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine:never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine.
This is my friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend.

Response Sing, My Soul, His Wondrous Love Ned Rorem
Sing, my soul, His wondrous love, who from yon bright throne above, ever watchful o’er our race, still to man extends His grace.
Heav’n and earth by Him were made, all is by His scepter sway’d;what are we that He should show so much love to us below?
God, the merciful and good, bought us with the Savior’s blood, and, to make our safety sure, guides us by His spirit pure.Sing, my soul, adore His name; let His glory be thy theme:
Praise Him till He calls thee home, trust His love for all to come.
+ THE SEVENTH LIGHT - THE SHADOW OF BURIAL +Reading Matthew 27:57-60 Christy Bouris, Reader
Response In Death’s Strong Grasp the Savior Lay J.S. Bach DISMISSAL
The service of Tenebrae, or “shadows”, dates back to eighth-century Rome. It grew out of a combination of night and early morning prayer, focusing on the commemoration of the passion of Jesus. The most significant aspect of this service is the gradual extinguishing of the lights and candles in the room, symbolizing the flight of the apostles and the darkness and disturbance that accompanied the suffering. The candles represent the apostles and all followers of Christ. The larger candle—the one we call the Christ Candle—represents Jesus himself. The dramatic high point occurs when complete darkness is reached and a loud noise is sounded at Jesus’ death. As Christians, we believe that it is of central impor-tance that the reality of Christ’s death be encountered; for there can be no resurrection without death. - Adapted from The Covenant Book of Worship

We welcome all people to begin or deepen their relationship with Christ through worship and study. We invite all believers to fully participate in the life and ministry of our church as members, leaders,
and lay staff. We celebrate the gifts and presence of diverse Christians among us—whether those differences be race, ethnicity, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability,
or socioeconomic status. We are blessed by our diversity and are unified in Christ.
