Prevent overuse injury by taking rest breaks. It is

important that children take a rest when in-volved in sports activities. Have your child take a day or two off each week from

sports to give them time to rest.

Make sure that you plan ahead making sure that your child is ready and has everything they need for their sport. Schedule year-ly well check-ups or sports physicals, have a safety plan in place in case of

medical emergency and make sure that coaches and teachers have your contact numbers.

Learn the signs and symptoms of a concussion. Sometimes they are hard to recognize when they happen. When in doubt, sit them out.

Stay hydrated. It is important to drink plenty of water be-fore, during and after activi-ties. Dont wait until they are thirsty, encourage water in-take.

Make sure that all equipment being used is safe and fitted properly. Watch for wear and tear and replace worn out equipment before it causes injury.

Be active, stay safe and have fun!

PLAY IT SAFEPLAY IT SAFEPLAY IT SAFEPLAY IT SAFE Playing sports is one of the best ways to keep kids active, healthy

and happy. Being part of a team and playing sports can help build self-esteem and so-cial skills. Involve-ment in sports also increases risk of injury.

Learn what you need to know to keep your kids safe when play-

    ing sports:

Start any exercise or sport activity with conditioning. It is essential to warm up and loosen those muscles for about 10 minutes. Try stretching while holding each stretch for 20-30 sec-onds. Try jogging, jump-
