PREP Notes

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:00 pm all are welcome to pray the Stations outdoors. We will be gathering at the marble statue of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The statue is located next to the old pump house. (This devotion will be coordinated by the Boy Scouts of local Troop #547 and members of our St. Francis Ecology Council.)

Please join us on Sunday, May 5th, at the 10:30 Mass

as we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary on the first Sunday

of the month dedicated to her.

On this occasion, all of the children of MMR parish who

are receiving the sacrament of the Eucharist this year for

the first time are encouraged to wear their dresses and

suits that they wore for their first Holy Communion Mass.

These First Communicants will be asked to participate in

the Crowning and Procession. What a wonderful

opportunity this will give them to be together with all their

“First Communion classmates”!

During Mass, our beautiful image of Mary will be crowned

with a ring of flowers. Later within the Mass, each First

Communicant will be invited to place a fresh cut flower at

the foot of the statue.

Parents, please RSVP by May 1st to Nancy Franks at

[email protected] if your child is a First

Communicant this year and will be attending this special

Marian celebration. We want to be sure to be properly

prepared for everyone’s participation.

Water is Essential to Life! Walking for Clean Water!

The Wednesday Evening 4th Grade PREP class is living out the Corporal Work of Mercy to Give Drink

to the Thirsty.

Nearly one billion people do not have access to clean, safe water - that's 1 in every 8 people on the

planet! Clean water is essential for good health, improved education, to grow food and to end

poverty.

Did you know?

Every day millions of women and children walk up to 4 miles and carry buckets weighing up to

40 pounds in order to provide water families.

Worldwide one out of five deaths of children under age five is due to a water related

disease. 1.4 million Children die every year from preventable diarrheal diseases, of which

88% are related to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation, and/or poor hygiene.

Lack of clean water has serious effects on student's academic performance and attendance

rates. Students miss class to go fetch water or to care for sick parents or siblings.

By improving water supply, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and the management of water

resources, nearly one-tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented.

Help us raise money and raise awareness to provide CLEAN water to the thirsty!

Here’s how:

Purchase a footstep for a dollar. Just print and cut the attached footprint and write your

name on it. Print a bunch and ask friends and family to participate too!

Give the footprint with your dollar donation to your PREP catechist. An envelope marked

Water Project will be provided for each class. Catechists, please return the envelopes to

Valerie Haynos on April 17 or April 18. We will accept donations until April 18th.

On April 18th at 7 PM we will line up all the feet in the church parking lot to see how far we

have walked to provide clean water. We will also have a water relay to see how far we can

carry a bucket of water without spilling it. Join in the fun!!

Water is Essential to Life! Walking for Clean Water!

I was thirsty and you gave me drink…. Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least

brothers of mine, you did for me.

Cut out the foot, write you name on it and place it with your dollar

donation in the envelope provided to your class!

Over the past five years, CRS has assisted more than two million people worldwide

in gaining access to clean water and have provided more than a million people in rural

areas access to improved sanitation. CRS supports water, sanitation and hygiene

services in more than two dozen countries, focusing on services for the poorest and

most remote communities. Much of the assistance is directed to sub-Saharan Africa.

CRS supports WASH programs in coordination with the three CRS strategic priority

areas of health, agriculture and emergencies. Their work improves health and well-

being, supports emergency preparedness and response efforts, and contributes to

the sustainability of water and natural resources.
