•Contextualise your teaching to the learner’s everyday life and occupation
•Embed the learning – mark the English and maths as you mark e.g. a Care Plan. Spelling, grammar, punctuation, style etc. can all be taught as you go through the VQ side of the apprenticeship.

• It is essential that apprentices get as much contextualised practice as they can.
• Assessors need to inform employers what each learner needs to practise
• Employers, guided by the assessors, must give embedded practice to the learners
