Training

• Its essential that staff are trained on a regular basis – to ensure they are capable of what is expected in the organisation.

• There are two main types of training ; In-house and external.

In-house Training

• This training is managed by the Human Resource Department.

• They are responsible for indicating who requires training.

• A database is kept to keep record of everything and monitor the process.

In-house Cntd..Advantages

• On companies premises so the candidate is in familiar surroundings – comfortable.

• Resource can be shared, knowledge also.

• Cheaper method.• Also as its within the

organisation it’s a ‘needs only’ basis so if that member of staff is needed they can easily postpone the training.

Disadvantages

• Many distractions in the office, can lead to training becoming incomplete.

• Person taking training may not be as up to date in every area of their own skills.

• Productivity stops as training takes place – is time being managed effectively?

• Also there may be a lack of resources.

External Training

• This is out-with the organisation.• It usually takes place at centres or

universities.• An organisation pays for more

qualified, specialised people to train the staff outside the company.

External Cntd..

Advantages

• Staff receive expert knowledge.

• Employees can find out about the outside word, competition etc.

• New ideas can be brought back to the organisation.

• Also with this opportunity given to them, staff may feel more motivated.

Disadvantages

• Very expensive method.

• Employees may have to travel a fair distance to get to the destination.

• Resources may be different from ones back at the organisation, which may make it difficult for employees to follow out in-house training etc.
