Applix TM1 Platform Support

New Platforms1. Solaris support has been moved to Solaris 10. To take the best advantage of this

platform, the build environment was moved to Solaris 10 as well. This means thatthis version will not run on older version of Solaris.

2. Support for Firefox 2.0 was added. This provides for TM1 Web access with Firefoxboth on Windows and Macintosh.

3. Official support for IE 7.

Deprecated Platforms1. Windows 2000 Server is no longer a tested platform2. IIS 5 is no longer a tested platform3. IE 5.5 is no longer a tested platform

Applix TM1 Server Enhancements

Multi-Threaded Server Loading1. Leverage multiple processors to concurrently process TM1 Server loading activities2. Especially helpful when processing TM1 Servers having a high volume of feeders3. Not applicable to Rules File saving.4. Note: If using conditional feeders, where the condition clause contains a fed value,

then the multi-threaded option should be turned off as we can not control the order inwhich the feeders are evaluated.

Data Encryption1. Enterprise Strength Authentication, Message Privacy, and Integrity2. Provided through Transport Layer Security (TLS) – the next generation of SSL3. Data Encryption, Data Integrity, and Mutual Authentication using Public Key

Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 certificates4. Interoperable with Windows and UNIX5. Invisible to End Users6. Can be disabled for 9.1 Server to communicate with 8.4 or 9.0 clients

Page 4: Applix 91 - What New - IBMpublic.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/... · 1. Smart Chart Axes – If you have created a chart in Excel using Auto scaling the Web Chart should now render

2/20/2007 4

Enhanced Logging1. Improved visibility into the health and performance of the Applix TM1 Server2. Removes dependency on dump files for debugging3. Combines Error and Message Logs4. Provides access to Message Log while Server is up (or hung)5. Provides for granular level of log verbosity and ability to control which areas of the

server are performing logging6. Multiple logging destinations – file, memory, or remote system

Before: TM1smsg.log

After: TM1server.logOrganizes data by thread id, message severity, date/time, subcomponent, log data

Page 5: Applix 91 - What New - IBMpublic.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/... · 1. Smart Chart Axes – If you have created a chart in Excel using Auto scaling the Web Chart should now render

2/20/2007 5

Performance Counters and Monitoring1. Enhanced monitoring w/30+ new server metric counters (i.e. threads created, views

and dimensions created and destroyed, subsets created, duplicated, destroyed ordeleted, read lock requests, etc).

2. Integration with Windows Performance Monitoring or viewed via the TM1 PerfMonutility (text only display that runs in a console window).

TM1Top1. Installed with Applix 9.12. Provides transparency to user and thread-level activity with TM1 Server3. Enables cancelling certain threads – TI processing, constructing or calculating a view

Enhanced Locking Mechanism1. Encapsulation of locking processes to enhance predictability and stability during

concurrent write activity.2. More granular Object-Level Write Locks to improve user concurrency performance

2.1. Updates will not impact unrelated TM1 objects3. TI reads/writes managed like any other API call (vs. current Write lock default…

even for reads). No need to control lock status during TI (i.e. LockOn/Off are nolonger relevant)

4. Intent to Update lock permits reads activity against current state of the object whileit’s being updated

5. Chore Integrity – If any TI process within a chore fails, the entire set of TI Processeswill be ‘rolled back’ to their pre-chore execution state.

should return quickly with any syntax errors5. Note: Any user launching the rules editor is required to have .NET 1.1 installed on

their machine.

NOTE: A defect in the 3rd party component – Syncfusion has prevented Applix frommaking the ‘new’ Rules Editor the default in Applix 9.1. The defect causes the ruleseditor to crash when Extended Characters are used. If your rules do not containreference to Extended Characters, you may turn the new Rules Editor ON by settingAdvancedRulesEditor=T in your tm1p.ini file (commonly found in c:\documents andsettings\<logged in user name>\Application Data\Applix\TM1

Dimension Editor1. Dimension Editor displays a grey background to distinguish it from the Subset

Editor

Dimension Editor:

Chores1. Inactive chores will show up greyed out. Active ones will remain orange.2. The processes within a chore will show up in the order that they will execute.

(Dimensions within a cube will also show up in the originally defined order versusalphabetically)

3. *** Important Note *** When you edit a chore you still need to make it inactive inorder to do so. However, on the schedule screen, the ‘Activate Chore’ box will not bechecked by default as was the case previously. If you want this chore to remainactive, you will need to manually check this box. This was changed to preventinactive chores from inadvertently becoming active.

Active and Inactive Chores:
