I first tried to look into www.seed.com and then www.demandstudios.com but for some reason neither of those were coming up in my computer. So I ended up creating a profile with www.mediabistro.com. At first glance over the website I was pretty confused as to what its purpose was, but after some poking around I realize that it is kind of a community and a resource for all writers alike. I noticed that the profiles of a lot of the members were people that had 20 plus years of writing experience. I even found an editor that has won several prestigious writing awards. I found a few articles on pitching and "how to pitch" but it seems if you really want to get the good info and tips you have to pay for an extended membership to the site. After searching the site some more I am pretty sure you have to pay to submit your pitch story as well. I found this whole process of learning about this whole other side of writing interesting. I have never explored the world of freelance writing so I had no idea how it worked before.

I first tried to look into www.seed.com and then

www.demandstudios.com but for some reason neither of those were

coming up in my computer. So I ended up creating a profile with

www.mediabistro.com. At first glance over the website I was pretty

confused as to what its purpose was, but after some poking around I

realize that it is kind of a community and a resource for all writers

alike. I noticed that the profiles of a lot of the members were people

that had 20 plus years of writing experience. I even found an editor

that has won several prestigious writing awards. I found a few

articles on pitching and "how to pitch" but it seems if you really

want to get the good info and tips you have to pay for an extended

membership to the site. After searching the site some more I am

pretty sure you have to pay to submit your pitch story as well. I

found this whole process of learning about this whole other side of

writing interesting. I have never explored the world of freelance

writing so I had no idea how it worked before.

Page 2: applied journalism class project

So I have been slacking off a bit with the freelance assignments because the

first one was a bit of a bad experience for me. None of the websites worked besides

one and it was really confusing, so I ended up just really frustrated with it. So I got it

together today and decided to give it another shot. It was a much better experience

this time around! I am guessing that the website www.elance.com was just down

temporarily the first time I tried, because this time it worked like a charm. I made a

profile quickly and found browsing for work really easy. So the job I ended up

bidding for was for a blog writer who wants articles on various lifestyle type articles

of which he assigns to you. He is asking for a sample of your writing which could be

on any topic so I decided to write a how to tattoo aftercare, since I know it is a

commonly searched for topic.

I am not expecting to land this job because I am not much of a writer but as

far as experience goes this was more fun than I thought. I was not aware of how

freelancers got work and the first freelance assignment did give me a better idea,

but this website (www,elance.com) actually makes it look fun and like something

that I would consider for maybe the future sometime.

Tattoo Aftercare

After getting inked you are going to want to know how to take care of your new artwork to prevent scabbing, scaring, and infection, and preserving the trueness of the color and design. Follow the instructions below and get the most of your ink!

Remove the bandage after one to two hours and wash the tattoo with fragrance free antibacterial soap, your CLEAN hands, and avoid washcloths.

Page 3: applied journalism class project

Always wash your hand prior to touching your tattoo. Never let other people touch your tattoo.

Lightly lotion your tattoo every three to four hours for the next two to three days. Keeping it moisturized will ensure the least amount of scabbing and peeling, thereby reducing the fading of the color. Make sure your hands are clean each time you rub lotion on it. The introduction of bacteria or dirt will cause the tattoo to become infected.

DO not soak your tattoo for two weeks. That means no pools, hot tubs, baths, saunas, or swimming.

DO not pick at any scabs that may form. Your tattoo may itch during the healing process but it is important to not scratch.

Make sure to always use sunscreen if your tattoo is exposed to the sun. This will keep the colors bright and vibrant and prevent fading.

It is your responsibility to take care of your tattoo. It is artwork that is on your body for life, so follow the directions above carefully and you will have awesome results!

So you’ve picked up a few new CeVie Clothing tee shirts for yourself and your family and you want some style advice and suggestions on what to pair with your new shirts. Well you’ve come to the right place. As the co-founder of CeVie Clothing I have had a vision of what the line represents from the very beginning. CeVie Clothing offers one of a kind graphics from tattoo artist Coty V. His artwork is both trendy and original featuring a neo-traditional anchor with a banner displaying the English translation of CeVie: This Life. The second design features a custom skull wearing an owl Indian headdress with feathers and Coty’ s style of neo-traditional clouds. The third design is a woman’s hand with a traditional ship and tattoo style waves. The shirts are available in various colors and styles, and is available in toddlers sizes 2T through 4T, children’s sizes extra small through large, women’s small through large/extra large, and men’s small through 3XL. Our women’s shirts come in four different styles. We have a sheer pink tank top, a sheer black v-neck, a sheer black hooded short sleeve, and an off-the-shoulder loose boxy top. The sheer pink tank looks great paired with jeans or skinny jeans. Heals or boots “dress up” the look and flats play it down. Accessorize the top with silver jewelry for a polished look. The black v-neck top and the sheer black hooded top look stylish with black skinnies and fringed boots. Add an open flannel over the tops or a colorful scarf for some color to the look. The boxy off the shoulder tops come in coral pink, royal blue, or black. These tops are great because they dress up and dress down very easily making them a versatile piece to have. The material is high quality and extremely comfortable. The tops are semi-short, so they look great with high waisted acid washed skinny jeans and heals. If you are not comfortable enough with showing a little tummy skin they look great with a spaghetti strap shirt underneath, preferably in the color of the ink on the print. Our men’s shirts are available in black and heather grey

Page 5: applied journalism class project

with a few different colors of ink. Our toddler shirts all feature the traditional anchor with the banner but instead of the “This Life” the banner on the kid’s shirts say “Mom” in traditional tattoo style. The come in black, white, pink, baby blue, olive green, and navy blue. So if you are a trendy, tattooed mom or dad don’t buy your kid a shirt with a dinosaur on it saying RAWWRR….. Buy them a shirt designed by a legitimate artist! Our youth sizes shirts for boys come in black or white, and for girl’s black or charcoal grey. All of our shirts are original and do not look like much of what you would see in stores like Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

September 20, 12Thomas McQill Inked Magazine Dear Mr. MCQuill,

“The Young Gun” is a 2 page magazine article on new, up-and-coming tattoo artist Coty Vondracek. He is currently tattooing out of Inflictions in West Covina. He is extraordinary because his talent outweighs his age and experience. He is 25 and has been tattooing for a mere 3 years. He has already taken trophies such as Best Of Day in Charlotte North Carolina, clear across the country from where he lives. The article features a six-question interview with the artist Coty Vondracek. The interview discusses his work experience, his goals and aspirations, and the artist he looks up to most. Along with the interview there is a short bio for Coty and eight high-resolution photographs of tattoos by Coty. Thank you in advance for your consideration. I think you will agree that Coty Vondracek is a fascinating, talented young man that readers would be drawn to read more about.  Sincerely,Stephanie Roberts

Blogs!

Recently my boyfriend and I started a tee shirt company. We are just starting out so we are learning everything as we go. I have decided to blog about our experiences with the company. I had been thinking about how fun it might be to design shirts because I do not like the styles that are out there for kids. I have two boys and my oldest likes to wear skateboard brands and they just don’t make much of that in my four year olds size. My boyfriend is not only a successful tattoo artist he is also an awesome artist all around. I asked him to draw up a few cool ideas for tee shirt designs. He gave me a few to choose from and of those I picked three to start with. Originally I just wanted to make the shirts for kids but when he posted the designs on his Facebook he had so many people asking if we would carry their

Page 12: applied journalism class project

sizes; so we decided to offer adult sizes as well. We met with a screen printer who said he was willing to make our shirts, and he would even do a partial trade on the cost for a cool new tattoo. We met with him a few times over the course of a month until we had all of the details worked out, the materials picked, the colors chosen, and the orders placed. The shirts came in a little over a week ago and we are very impressed with the quality of the shirts and the material. We are now begging to work on getting the product out there to potential buyers.  I have met with a couple storeowners who are interested in selling the shirts in their stores so we will see how that goes. This experience so far has been fun and exciting, as well as exhausting and nerve-wracking.

So last week I told you all about the tee shirt company that my boyfriend and I started. We had an exciting weekend for our company, it was our very first photo shoot! It went really well, and was super fun! We used my two boys as models, as well as two of my friends little girls. Modeling the adult clothes was my boyfriend and his twin brother and a couple of their friends, as well as a couple of my girlfriends (two of which were also twins so that was cool). The photographers we used we found through a Face book group and they were really excited to shoot us! They did so much work and really went above and beyond with our shoot. We started with a catalogue shoot showcasing the shirts on the models in front of a white backdrop. After that was done we sent the kids all home with their dad’s or a babysitter and headed over to an abandoned building for the editorial shoot. It was really cloudy and overcast outside which just added to the awesomeness of

Page 13: applied journalism class project

the environment. I can’t wait to hear back from the photographer to let us know the pictures are ready to be viewed. In the meantime I would like to invite you all to follow us on Instagram where you can see behind the scenes previews of the shoot as well as pictures of the shirts. (@CeVieClothing) On Saturday we also took some shirts to a salon located in Woodcrest because the owner sells some clothing there and was interested in our line. We set up a shelf and hung a few shirts as well so now they are available for purchase at Knockout Salon off Wood and Van Buren. I hope to get them into a new store in Downtown Riverside as well, maybe at the end of the month. We named ou company CeVie Clothing because my boyfriend’s initials are CV, so we wanted to use something that sounded the same. I played with different ways of spelling out CV (Cee Vee, Ci Vie) and figured out that Ce Vie means “this life” in French. It was perfect! I hope you enjoy reading my blog updates and check us out on instagram! The website will be coming soon as well.

Today I spoke with a friend of a friend, who works in marketing. She does her own thing and helps companies promote their product and their brand. She had seen our shirts from a mutual friend and now she’s interested in working with us. Right now she is marketing a tattoo aftercare lotion and she thinks it would be a good idea to team up with them and collaborate on some ideas as well as get our more “expert” opinion of their aftercare product. So that was pretty exciting news, or potential news, we are meeting next Wednesday to talk some more about how she can help us market CeVie Clothing. On Thursday I went to Buena Park to a tattoo supply company called TatSoul. They are a very high end reputable company that a lot of respected artists get their tattoo supplies from. The manager of sales

Page 14: applied journalism class project

and marketing asked me to bring some shirts by to show the girls in the office. I sold a few while I was there and just did some networking. I don’t mind that our company is off to a slow steady pace starting out; we have two tattoo conventions coming up next month and we will probably sell a lot because people eat merchandise up at those things.

So this week has been a bit more exciting for CeVie clothing. I met with a marketing consultant, like I mentioned last week. I think she has what it takes to get this off the ground a lot better than I could do! She has a lot more creative ideas and she is highly motivated. She also has a lot of connections in the fashion industry. She came over for a meeting and we talked over different ideas for about 2 and a half hours. She is taking over building the website and social media sites, she went through the photos from the photoshoot and chose the ones to send to edit, and she is working on finding us a new screen printer. I am sure with having her on board we will be having much more exciting news to come!
