What will the course involve?

ALevelAppliedBusinessisdifferentfromALevelBusinessStudiesinanumberofways.Firstly,asthe‘Applied’titlesuggestswetrytogiveyouagreaterinvolvementwithbusinesses;somoretripstobusinesses,moreresearchofrealbusinesses,aone-weekworkplacementinthefirstyearandagreaterdevelopmentofthepersonalskillsyouwillneedtodowellinabusiness.

Secondly,theAppliedcourseisworth2ALevels,soyouspenddoubletheamountoftimeonitthanonBusinessStudies.

Thirdly,itinvolvesmorecoursework.

How will I be assessed?

ProgressonAppliedBusinessismostlythroughcoursework:ofthesixunitsdoneinthefirstyear,fourarebycoursework,andthesame

goesforthesecondyear.YouwilldooneexamintheJanuaryandoneinthesummerofeachyear.Thisgivesyougreatercontroloveryourachievement.Youwillreceiveregularfeedbackfromyourtutorandhavethechancetoimproveyourcourseworkassignments.

StudentsfromtheA2AppliedBusinesscourseweregiventheopportunitytoworkinpartnershipwithSaintsRLFCtohosttheannualfashionshowincollege.Theprojectformedpartofthestudents’courseworkandrequiredthemtoworktogethertodesignaneffectivepromotionalcampaignandco-ordinateahighprofileevent.Theteamwentfromstrengthtostrengthtohostthemostsuccessfulshowtodate,withasellouteventtogetherwithaguestappearancefromaclubplayerandtheclub’sofficialmascots!Generatingover£1200insalestogetherwith£100forWillowbrookHospice,theteamreceivedpraisefrombothSaintsDirectorsandtheMayorofStHelens!

AspartoftheirA2AppliedBusinesscoursework,studentshavevoicedtheiropinionregardingthecurrentdebateof‘HealthyEating’and‘FAIRTRADE’producewithinCarmelCollege.Afterextensiveresearchconductedoverathreemonthperiod,allstudentspresentedtheirresultstoaboardofsignificantdecisionmakersandinfluentialindividualswithin,andexternallyto,thecollege.Asaresultofthisinspiringprojectthreestudentsweretheninvitedtorepresentthestudentvoiceonthetenderingprocesstochoosethenewcateringcompanyforthecollege.

How does AS Applied Business differ to AS Business Studies?
