Sensor and Sensor Node

• Sensor: A Sensor is a Electronic Device that measures a physical quantity and converts into a signal which can be read by an instrument or by an observer.

• Sensor Node: A sensor node is a basic unit in a sensor network that is capable of performing some processing, gathering sensory information and communicating with other connected nodes in the network.

A wireless sensor network is a collection of nodes “sensors” organized into a cooperative network. The nodes communicate wirelessly and often self-organize after being deployed

Wireless information transmission through the ocean is one of the enabling technologies for the development of future ocean-observation systems and sensor networks.

Underwater wireless sensing systems are envisioned for stand-alone applications and control of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and another is submersibles, also known as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

Among the first underwater acoustic systems was the submarine communication system developed in the USA around the end of the Second World War.

Medical Applications Medical information

collected by sensors on the patient’s body (WPAN) is displayed on a bedside monitor

This information is also transmitted to another hospital location for remote monitoring, e.g., a nurses’ station)

In case of emergency, when the patient is moved from his/her room to the intensive care unit, these communications need to be maintained (Contd..)

Street Parking Based on WSN

•Sensor nodes are deployed alongside the roadside and each node is mounted on the center floor of a parking space. Each

sensor node detects the earth’s magnetic field periodically. When a node detected a car entering or leaving, it transmits a message

to the router. The router forwards the packet to a base

station that is one or more hops away. In the base station,

information from different nodes will be merged, and parking guidance information will be

transmitted to LED board and remote server

>> Sensor Network ideal for monitoring environmental conditions effecting plant growth in areas that are not as easily controllable as those of a greenhouse.

>> Each node measures light levels, air temperature and humidity, with optional measurements of soil temperature and soil moisture
