Application Instructions for 2020 SDUWMaster and PhDAdmissionsI. Shandong University, WeihaiFounded in 1901, with a long history and significant influence both at home and abroad, Shandong University(SDU) is a key comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of China, and amember university of the nation’s construction plan of world-class universities (Category A).Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW), built in 1984, together with the campuses in Jinan and Qingdao, constituteSDU’s pattern of “One University-Eight Campuses-Three Cities” and contribute to a unique educational model ofmulti-campus sharing resources and complementing strengths. SDUW graduates will be awarded SDU graduationdiploma and degree certificates. Covering a floor area of 500,000 square meters, SDUW currently offers 43bachelor’s degree programs, spanning 8 general disciplines: Literature, Art, Law, Economics, Management,Science, Engineering and Medicine. The university can recruit master’s students in 24 first-level disciplines,doctoral students in 16 first-level disciplines, and post-doctoral students in 18 first-level disciplines. It is now hometo 14,900 undergraduate students, 1,600 master and doctoral students and over 1,000 international students. Thenumber of faculty and staff totals over 1,200, including 399 professors and associate professors, and 473 doctoraland master’s supervisors.SDUW locates in Weihai, a beautiful coastal city praised as one of the most livable cities in the world. The campusis also one of the university campuses which enjoy the longest coastline. Characterized by four distinctive seasonsand endowed with enchanting sceneries, the campus backs on Majia Mountain in the north, faces Wenxin Lake inthe south and hugged by two bathing beaches in the east and west.

Over the years, SDUW has established a broad international network for educational cooperation and has
established cooperative relations with 117 well-known universities in 14 countries and regions, namely Australia,
the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Republic of Korea, Japan, Spain, Russia, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand,

Singapore as well as Taiwan region. Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to study in world-famous
universities through various kinds of programs.
II. Eligibility for Application
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, and possess a valid foreign
passport. Relevant supporting documents will be needed for applicants who are under the age of 18 at the point of
application and entry.
(2) Applicants who are emigrants to other countries from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and
Taiwan region need to provide valid passport or other nationality certificate of that country that has been issued for
no less than 4 years (before April 30th of the year of enrollment) as well as relevant records to prove your physical
presence in that country for more than 2 years (Nine full months physical presence in the country could be counted
as one year, which shall be calculated based on the entry and exit records on your passport).
(3) Academic qualification: Applicants who apply for a master’s degree program must hold a bachelor's degree or
above; applicants for a doctoral degree program must hold a master's degree or above. Applicants who have not
graduated yet must submit an expected graduation certificate issued by their home institution. It should contain the
expected date of graduation. The applicants should present the original graduation certificate when registering at
SDUW. Failure to do so will invalidate their admission offer.

SDUW offers programs taught in Chinese, English and Korean. Each applicant can only apply for ONE program.
The length of schooling for master’s programs is 3 years, and 4 years for PhD programs. The programs of 2020

Chinese-taught Programs1. New HSK Level 5 or above with a score of 180+2. 3. Medical Insurance
The Ministry of Education of China requires that all international students MUST purchase medical insurancefor their stay. Students without medical insurance will not be eligible to register.Insurance Fees: RMB 800/person/yearChinese Government Scholarship students are exempt from the above and automatically covered.
IX. Visa
Admitted students must apply for a study visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate/Visa Centre in their homecountry with the Admission Notice and JW 201/202 Form. International students who come to study for less than 6months should apply for X2 Visa. Students who will study in China for more than 6 months are required to obtainX1 visa. To stay in China legally, it is mandatory for X1 visa holders to apply for the Residence Permit within 30days after your first entry by submitting their application to the Office of International Student Affairs in a timelymanner.
X. Weihai
Weihai is a coastal city in the eastern Shandong Province, and it was awarded as the first state-level gardencity in China as well as one of the most livable cities in the world. The city enjoys the shortest distance to theRepublic of Korea and Japan among all the mainland cities of China. It also boasts a coastline of 985 kilometers,which accounts for 1/18 of China’s total length of coastline, and is endowed with beautiful and enchantingsceneries.
Weihai has many famous tourist attractions, such as Liugong Island, the birthplace of China's first modernnaval force, Chengshantou, praised as the Cape of Good Hope in the East and once visited by Qin Shi Huang, theFirst Emperor of Qin, and Swan Lake, the largest swan habitat in winter among all Asian countries.
Weihai enjoys convenient domestic and international transportation. There are more than 20 domestic routesbetween Weihai and large cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen as well as direct flights toSeoul of the Republic of Korea. High-speed trains are available at Weihai Train Station and Weihai North Station totake you to different parts of the country. Weihai Port also has direct ships to Dalian of Liaoning Province and tothe Republic of Korea.
