We are pleased that you are applying to participate in the Inova Biomedical Internship, which will provide George Mason

University undergraduate Bioengineering students with the opportunity to work one-on-one with medical care providers

and scientists in a semester long research program. Five to eight internship opportunities will be available at Inova Fairfax

Hospital for students to engage in a variety of the research activities. This is an excellent opportunity for students to 1)

apply knowledge learned in textbooks to solve hypothesis driven questions, 2) enhance scientific writing and

communication skills, 3) search and review scientific literature, 4) analyze and interpret results and 4) receive personal

and professional guidance. Participants may be afforded the terrific opportunity to become co-authors on peer reviewed

literature and receive letters of recommendation.

Inova Biomedical Clinical Internship

Program Benefits:

Interns are eligible to compete for the Undergraduate

Research Student of the Year Award of the Center for

the Study of Chronic Metabolic Diseases, GMU -

Inova Translational Research Institute, Best Poster

Presentation, Best Oral Presentation at variety of

conferences, etc.

Outstanding interns can receive letters of

recommendation to apply for job,

graduate/professional programs

Interns may be afforded the terrific opportunity to

become on pear reviewed literature!

Course Credit:

Students will earn BENG 499 (3 credit hours) cour

credit for successful completion of the internsh

program

A minimum of 8 hours/week is required to fulf

internship program requirements.

Program Details:

In addition to a minimum of 8 hours of research per

week, it will be mandatory for participants to attend

Inova orientation, weekly meetings

If selected, interns would have to fulfill requirements for

George Mason University Safety Training & Inova

Fairfax Hospital Orientation (HelpB vaccination/waiver,

drug screen, background check, etc.) before starting the

program. Inova Fairfax Hospital Orientation will require

students to provide a social security number.This program is targeted for VSE undergraduate

students who will be sophomores, juniors and seniors in

Spring 2014.

Interns will not receive stipends to participate in the

program; however, there will be opportunities for

interns to apply for stipends/grants through VAS, NIH,

OSCAR etc.

Interns will provide their own transportation to and from

the Inova.
