IT infrastructure and Key specifications :

All the servers at the Data centre are from Sun Microsystems. There are 8 Nos of physical servers. There are 3 different models of servers based on the application requirements. The storage and Tape library are also from Sun Microsystems. All the components are rack mounted.

For the ERP System (SAP) landscape, a total of 23 OS instances exist for the Training, Development, Quality and Production environments. So Virtualization technologies like Sun Logical Domains (LDOM) and Solaris Containers (Zones) have been used for reducing the physical server count. This also helps to significantly reduce the operational expenditure for Electricity consumption, Cooling requirements and Rackspace and reduces the Carbon emission and hence support the Green IT initiatives.

For the High Availability of the ERP application, 2 tier of redundancy is used currently.

1. Server Component Level – Redundant power supply, Fans, Network Cards, HBAs are used for avoiding single point of failure in server component level.

2. Application Level – Production Database, Application and Central instances are configured in a High Availability Cluster for protecting the applications from physical server failure.

The ERP architecture at data center is shown below:

Page 3: application for enlistment of vendors for erp hardware software

Note – A scaled down replica of DC site (Kochi) Hardware is kept in DR site (Rasayani, Maharashtra) and replication between these two sites is possible for protecting from a site failure after a disaster like earthquake, flood and other natural calamities. However the DR is currently not being operated and hence site level redundancy is currently not available.

Managing the Sunservers: The Sun Fire x4150 servers (Solution Manager, Backup Server and Antivirus Server) & Sun T5440 servers can be managed using the Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) module. If the servers are not reachable through normal Network IP address, the server status can be checked using ILOM

Sun virtualization: There are two Virtualization technologies used in HOCL DC Site – viz, Sun Logical Domains (LDOM) and Solaris Containers (Zones). Both of these technologies enable creating multiple OS instances on a single physical server and a base Operating System named as primary control domain or global zone. All these virtualized instances are segregated from one another and have dedicated CPU and Memory resources assigned. These instances can also be identified in the network with unique hostname and IP address. All the OS instances for Training, Development and Quality (Testing) are configured as LDOMs in both System1 and System 2 servers in the data centre. All the instances for Application and Central Instance components of ECC (ERP central component), EP (enterprise portal) and BI (business intelligence) are virtualized using Solaris containers or Zones. The instance distribution is as follows. Application server 1 – 3 LDOMs for Quality, 3 Zones for Application &Central Instance each (Total – 9 instances) Application server 2 – 1 LDOM for Training, 3 LDOMs for Development and 3 Zones for Application and 3 Zones for Central Instance. (Total – 10 instances)Sun cluster configuration: For the High Availability of SAP Application servers and Database Servers, Clustering using Sun Cluster 3.2 software is implemented in

Page 5: application for enlistment of vendors for erp hardware software

DC site. A Cluster is a group of physical servers (Nodes) from where the application can be available to users and prevents the application unavailability due to single node failure. In a High Availability or Fail over Cluster, one node will always be the active node for an application and the other node will be standby. If the primary node fails, the application will be automatically shifted to the second node. In HOCL Data center , there are 2 Clusters configured. The first Cluster is a 3 node Cluster and is used for providing redundancy of databases (ECC, EP & BI). The second Cluster is a 2 node Cluster for providing fail over functionality to Application and Central Instance zones for ECC, EP and BI components of SAP.Sun storage configuration: Sun Storage 6580 array is used in HOCL data center for providing shared storage for the ERP Systems. There are two Array controllers (Controller A & B) for the redundancy of RAID controllers. Three numbers of CSM200 Expansion trays (Arrays) are used for adding 41 numbers of Fiber Channel Disks. The disks are configured in two different RAID groups with a global hot spare. The CSM200 Expansion Trays are connected to both controllers and the controllers are connected back to SAN Switches. One of the Disks is configured as Global Hot Spare drive. In case any of the disks fails from either of the RAID groups, the spare disk will be automatically replaced with the failed disk.Storage area network: For connecting all the Servers to the Storage Array, two SAN switches are used in HOCL DC site. The SAN switches are of Cisco MDS9134 model and having 32 Nos of 4Gbps Fiber ports on each switch. Out of 32 ports 24 ports are populated with SFP fiber modules for connecting to HBAs on servers and other hardware components. All the Servers, Storage controller, Tape Library are connected to both of the SAN switches for providing redundancy.Backup system: For the backup of data from all ERP servers, a Backup system has been implemented in the data center. This backup system consists of 3 major components. And these components are integrated for the automated backup of HOCL servers.

1. Physical Tape Library (Sun StorageTek SL48 ) 2. Backup Server (Sun Fire x4150 with Solaris OS) 3. Backup Application (Netvault Bakbone Enterprise Edition)

Backup software: The installed backup software is Netvault Bakbone Enterprise Edition (version 8.5). Netvault Bakbone has 3 major components – NVBU server, NVBU clients and NVBU console. NVBU server

Antivirus Solution: Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 is used as the Antivirus solution in HOCL DC site. SEP has three major components. 1. Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 2. Symantec Endpoint Protection Clients

Page 6: application for enlistment of vendors for erp hardware software

3. Symantec Management Console. The endpoint Protection Manager component is installed in x4150 server with Windows 2008 Operating System. The Antivirus Server is configured to pull the Virus definition updates from Symantec web site and all the clients will be automatically updated from the Antivirus Server on a regular basis. The status of the Virus Definition updates of each client can be monitored through the Console.

Firewall Protection: For protecting the HOCL network from external intrusions and attacks, firewalls are installed at the DC site. The firewall is from Checkpoint and belongs to the Unified Threat Management (UTM) platform.Checkpoint has the following components 1. Management Server 2. Gateways 3. Smart Console. For the high availability of the firewall modules, there are two numbers of UTM1 576 modules configured in a Cluster.

SAP User Licenses: The SAP user licenses are renewed by HOCL directly with SAP on an annual basis.
