Student Finance: The Browne Review

• The Browne Review has recommended that Universities in England be allowed to charge Tuition Fees of £6,000 - £9,000 p.a. from 2012

• Welsh Universities will be allowed to charge Tuition Fees of £4,000 - £9,000 p.a.

• These changes will not apply to students starting University in September 2011 as fees will not rise until the following year and will only apply to new students

• BUT anyone applying now and deferring entry until 2012 will be subject to increased fees

• For Welsh domiciled students, the Welsh Assembly Government announced yesterday that a Tuition Fee Grant will be available to cover any increase in fees

• This means that for Welsh domiciled students, they will pay no more towards their fees than they do now – wherever they study

• Whatever happens, students will be entitled to a loan to cover their fees, as well as a loan to help with living expenses
