SOLAR UNIT (THERMAL OR PV) WIND FORCESSOLAR UNITS INSTALLED PER THIS PLAN SHALL NOT FORM PART OF THE BUIDING ENVELOPE LIKE A WINDOW, DOOR, SKYLIGHT, OR BIPV. SOLAR UNITS SHALL BE MOUNTED ABOVE ROOF SURFACE LIKE AN ACCONDENSER. THEREFORE, SOLAR UNITS THUS INSTALLED DO NOT REQUIRE A PRESSURE RATING AS DO ENVELOPE COMPONENTS SUCH AS WINDOWS, DOORS, & SKYLIGHTS. SOLAR UNITS SHALL BE MOUNTEDVERY CLOSE TO THE ROOF SURFACE. THIS PROVIDES PRESSURE EQUALIZATION BETWEEN THE ROOF SURFACE AND THE BACK OF THE SOLAR UNITS. THIS RESULTS IN NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE LOADS ON THEROOF FRAMING FOR A PARALLEL MOUNT AND MODEST CHANGES IF TILT UP. HOWEVER, THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMPONENTS OF WIND PRESSURE DECOUPLE, E.G. THE ROOF RESISTS THE INTERNAL WINDPRESSURES AND THE SOLAR UNITS RESIST THE EXTERNAL WIND PRESSURES. THIS IS A SINGLE-SHEET PLAN WHICH PROVIDES ROOF STRUCTURAL MOUNTING & STANDARD (DIRECT) PLUMBINGDETAILS.THIS PLAN APPLIES ONLY TO AN INSTALLATION IN ROOF PRESSURE ZONE 1 (PZ1) AS SHOWN ON THIS PLAN SHEET.CONTRACTOR SHALL CORROSION RESISTANT STEEL, J-BOLTS. INSTALLED BY DRILLING UP THRU ROOF BESIDE ROOFRAFTERS TO INSURE ACCURATE POSITIONING. USE DRIVEN STAPLE TO HOLD J-BOLTS IN PLACE DURING WORKPROCESS. SAW OUT SUFFICIENT TILE AT EACH J-BOLT LOCATION TO CENTER A 1-INCH GALVANIZED PLUMBINGFLOOR FLANGE ON EACH J-BOLT. BEFORE DOING SO, CLEAN AREA TO ENSURE GOOD BONDING OF CHEM-LINK M-1ROOF SEALANT TO ROOF MEMBRANE. SQUIRT M-1 AROUND EACH J-BOLT WHERE IT COMES UP FROM ROOF.INSTALL A 3/8-INCH HOT DIP GALVANIZED FENDER WASHER, LOCK WASHER AND NUT TO SECURE EACH J-BOLT.THEN, ON EACH J-BOLT, INSTALL 1-INCH DIAMETER, GALVANIZED STEEL FLOOR FLANGE, & SCHEDULE 80-PVC PIPENIPPLE OF SUFFICIENT LENGTH TO HOLD COLLECTOR JUST ABOVE THE TOP OF ROOF TILES.FILL PIPE NIPPLES WITH CHEM-LINK M-1 SEALANT.FINALLY, INSTALL COLLECTOR ON J-BOLTS AND PIPE NIPPLES USING OEM FLUSH MOUNT SYSTEM.PIPES AND LOW-VOLTAGE SENSOR WIRE TO BE INSTALLED USING OEM FLASHINGS - INCLUDING “COOLIEHAT” FOR EACH PIPE AND UPSIDE-DOWN J-FITTING FOR LOW-VOLTAGE SENSOR WIRE.CONTRACTOR SHALL NEATLY FILL IN CUT OUT TILES WITH SAND-CEMENT MIX OR OTHER PRODUCT APPROVED BYAHJ. THEN PAINT TO MATCH ROOF.
J-BOLT SPECIFICATION FOR SDHW (SOLAR DOMESTIC HOT WATER) COLLECTOR(S)COLLECTOR ORIENTATION IS PREFERRED TO BE LONG AXIS PORTRAIT. HOWEVER, LANDSCAPE SHALL BE PERMITTED. J-BOLTS SHALL BE CRS (CORROSION RESISTANT STEEL). J-BOLTS SHALL BE 3 8" DIAMETER
ADDITIONAL RE-INFORCEMENT REQUIERED :SPANNER & J-BOLT INSTALLATION OF SDHW (SOLAR DOMESTIC HOT WATER) COLLECTOR(S)
SPANNER SHALL BE IN ATTIC, 2” BY 4” (NOMINAL, MINIMUM, COMMON) LUMBER INSTALLED APPROXIMATELY (+-)PERPENDICULAR TO ROOF FRAMING . SPANNER SHALL EXTEND MINIMUM OF 4-INCHES BEYOND ROOF FRAMING TO EACH SIDE OF J-BOLT LONG DIMENSION OF SPANNER CROSS SECTION SHALL BE PERPENDICULAR TO ROOF SHEETING & PARALLEL
WITH J-BOLT SHAFT - SEE DRAWINGS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL SOLAR COLLECTORS PERPENDICULAR TO ROOF FRAMING & SHALL ATTACH TO EACH FRAMINGMEMBER CROSSED BY LAGGING OR J-BOLT. CONTRACTOR MAY USE SPANNERS TO REDUCE NUMBER OF ROOF PENETRATIONSTO MINIMUM OF FOUR PER COLLECTOR WHILE STILL TRANSFERRING LOADS TO ALL FRAMING MEMBERS CROSSED.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL SOLAR COLLECTORS IN THE GENERAL AREA OF ROOF PRESSURE ZONE 1 INDICATED ON ROOFLAYOUT PLAN (FIGURE 02). EOR DISPUTES AHJ PLAN REVIEW DIRECTIVE TO DESIGNATE EXACT COLLECTOR LOCATION(S),BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY VARIABLES SUCH AS ROOF VENTS, DUCT WORK AND OTHER ATTIC OBSTRUCTIONS WHICHCAN ONLY BE OPTIMIZED ON-SITE. THE EXACT COLLECTOR LOCATION(S) SHALL REMAIN A CONTRACTOR DECISION, BECAUSECONTRACTOR IS ON-SITE AND BEST ABLE TO MAKE OPTIMAL DECISION IN THIS REGARD.
ONE-INCH PIPE NIPPLE AND GALVANIZED FLANGE SERVE DUAL-PURPOSE AS BOTH
STRUCTURAL SUPPORT AND ROOF SEALANT FILLED PITCH-POCKET. CONTRACTOR SHALL FILL NIPPLE WITH
CHENM-LINK M-1 OR EQUAL APPROVED POLYURETHANE ROOF SEALANT AS SHOWN IN ADJACENT PHOTOS.
