Gymtastic School Sports Program 2019 Each Thursday of Term 2, students in Years K-6 will have the opportunity to participate in a Gymnastics sports program pre-sented by Gymtastic. The program will run each Thursday from 2nd May to 27th June (7 weeks – excluding 9th May – Stage 2 Zoo snooze camp and 13th June – Zone Cross Country ). The program will run for seven weekly, 40 minute sessions. The full cost of the program is $35.00 per child, however, we are applying for a ‘Sporting Grant’ to hopefully reduce the cost of the program for families. The grant applications do not open until March, so we are unable to confirm the reduced cost of the program at this time. We are asking that parents sign and return their child’s permission note before Friday, 5th April. Cost of the program will be confirmed as soon as we are advised of the grant amount. We are anticipating a reduced cost of up to $10. This will make the Gymtastic program cost approximately $25.00 per child. Please DO NOT PAY MONEY for Gymtastics until the cost has been confirmed. Just return the permission note by 5th April. You will have until the end of Term 2 to finalise payment for the program. School Photos - Thursday, 21st March, 2018The photographers will visit our school on Thursday, 21st March 2018. Envelopes were sent home last week. Parents wishing to purchase these photos are asked to return the envelopes with payment to the office by Monday, 18th March. Each child needs to have their own envelope to have their photo taken. Please take advantage of the online paymentsystem now available. If paying by cash, correct money must be placed in the envelope or a note to say that themoney is in the oldest child’s envelope. NB: We will NOT be taking payments on the day of photos.Change of Details/Email AddressIf there have been any changes of your details e.g. address, phone numbers, emergency contacts, could you please advise the office as soon as possible. We are trialling a new system in 2019 that involves emailing parents. Please assist us by providing an up-to-date email address as soon as possible.Year 6 Farewell FundraiserYear 6 students will be selling iceblocks each afternoon, after school from 3:00pm - 3:15pm, during Term 1 and Term 4 to raise money for the Year 6 Farewell. If any parents from Year 5 or Year 6 would like to donate a bag of Zooper Doopers, it would be greatly appreciated. Clean Up Australia DayOn Friday, 1st of March, students will be involved in Clean Up Australia Day. We are asking all students to bring in gardening gloves to pick up the litter in our school. Thank you for your assistance, Miss Hoskins & Mr Nixon.WalkathonOur school is holding a Walkathon to be held on Friday, 15th March 2019 from 12:30-1:30pm. This is a major fundraiser for our school providing much needed additional funds to replace ageing classroom Netbooks and iPads. Students will walk around part of our playground as well as some paths and gardens around the classrooms. Parents will be most welcome to join us as we walk our laps. Students will be issued with a sponsor sheet to start obtaining sponsors. A good way to gain sponsors and sponsorship money is to have parents take this sponsor sheet to their workplace. An iPad mini will be the major prize for the student earning the most sponsorship money. There will also be a “popcorn and movie at school” prize for the class earning the most sponsorship money, $50 vouchers for the K-2 and Years 3-6 student earning the most sponsorship money and many other incentive prizes as well for students who return their sponsorship money in the first three weeks following the Walkathon’s completion.daily commute.Fees for 2019All fees can be paid off in instalments. Road SafetyOnce again, we are fortunate to have community members who look out for the safety of students out and about in Appin and we include this reminder to students and parents. If your child walks or rides home alone or runs or rides ahead of you please advise themto stop at intersections and pause and look both ways before crossing. Some potential accidents have been reported to our school. Please also refrain from taking a short cut through our staff car park in the afternoons and walk the extra few steps (which are great for your health) and leave through our front or rear pedestrian gates. If your child attends OOSH in our school hall before or after school, there is a dedicated gate and path to ensure you and your child can safely enter and exit OOSH. There is parking on Appin Road close to this gate. Please factor the time taken to safely dropoff and pick up your child into your daily commute. For the safety of ALL students and parents, our staff car park is for staff members only.

School uniformIt is terrific to see so many students wearing the correct school uniform each day. Appin Public School has a “no hat no play in the sun” policy. Our uniform includes a sunsafe wide-brimmed hat to protect your child’s face, head and neck. Please ensure you clearly label your child’s hat. Lost hats can be quickly returned if they have a name inside. If your child brings the wrong hat home, please return it to school promptly so the correct hat can be found.

Bullying Our school has registered for the National Day Against Bullying on Friday 15th March, which is also our Walkathon day. Often parents become concerned when their child comes home from school and says someone has been mean to them or hurt them and believe their child has therefore been bullied. Following is a definition of bullying which is available on many website providing information about bullying such as “Bullying No Way!” and the Alannah and Madeline website.• The definition of bullying is when an individual or a group of people with more power, repeatedly and intentionally cause hurt or harm to another person or group of people who feel helpless to respond. Bullying can continue over time, is often hidden from adults, and will probably continue if no action is taken. While the bullying definition is broad and can occur in a variety of environments it usually is a relationship problem and requires relationship-based solutions. These are best solved in the social environment in which they occur: in a child or young person's life, this is most often the school. What bullying is not:• single episodes of social rejection or dislike• single episode acts of nastiness or spite• random acts of aggression or intimidation• mutual arguments, disagreements or fights. These actions can cause great distress. However, they do not fit the definition of bullying, and they're not examples of bullying unless someone is deliberately and repeatedly doing them.
