1.1. INTRODUCTION

Additional to the chapter MAINTENANCE, this appendix gives informa-tion about “standard” maintenance jobs. The information can be used pre-paring a regular dry-docking when overhauling of the waterjets can be done. It gives you an idea of which parts you need for certain maintenance jobs.

When more specific maintenance/repair jobs are to be done we can always advise you and make an offer with price and delivery terms.

Each partslist is accompanied with a drawing on which the items that belong together are mentioned. These items can also be found in the origi-nal partslist, where they may have different item numbers. However, for certain jobs - like “Rubber bearing exchange” for instance, there is a stan-dard drawing with description and mounting consumables.

A Maintenance Schedule for overhauls/inspections is also given.

When ordering spare parts it is advised to make a copy of the page contain-ing the parts needed and fax this to Wärtsilä Lips Defence. Also the given set article number can be used.



1.2. GENERAL MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES

The general guidelines for the maintenance of the waterjets are:• If not locked by other means all threaded connections should be

mounted with Loctite 243 (or equivalent). Before applying Loctite an appropriate cleaning and degreasing is required. Instead of Loctite 243, Loctite 270 or Loctite 275 can be used in case the material of one of the mating parts of the threaded connection is stainless steel. Loctite 270 is used for thread upto M20, Loctite 275 for M20 and above. At stainless steel / stainless steel connections Loctite 270 / Loctite 275 can achieve better locking performance and still be nor-mally dismounted again.

• If stainless steel parts fit tight on other stainless steel parts apply anti-seize spray or paste (stainless steel type). Use this anti-seize spray or paste also on threaded connections not locked with Loctite. Use anti-seize tape on all BSP-threaded connections. Copaslip or other copper containing lubricants are not allowed.

• Lock plates and self-locking nuts (with plastic insert) must be replaced after removal. O-rings must be replaced.

• If washers (steel, insulating or sealing) must be replaced, the correct material must be used. Order them at Wärtsilä Lips Defence, use a copy of the partslist to make sure the correct articles are fitted.

• If bolts are to be replaced, take care to use bolts of the correct mate-rial and grade. Use the correct mounting torque, either as indicated on the drawing or as indicated in the manual. Order them at Wärtsilä Lips Defence, use a copy of the partslist to make sure the correct arti-cles are fitted.

• Damage caused by seizing, scratches etc. must be repaired before new parts are installed.

• Work with the proper tools to avoid damage to bolts, nuts etc.

If there is any doubt, contact Wärtsilä Lips Defence.
