Microsoft Office 2007:
Using the Mouse Wheel to Scroll through the Ribbons
Fri, 02/13/2009 - 14:27 — Glenna Emel
Though you can easily move through the ribbons on any of the new Microsoft 2007 interfaces by
clicking on each tab individually, using the scroll wheel on your mouse may be a better
alternative. To use this option simply click within any of the ribbons and roll your mouse's scroll
wheel up, which will move you to the left, or down, which will move you to the right.

Preview attachments
A new feature in the 2007 Microsoft Office system, allows you to preview some attachment file types without opening them.
Messages that have attachments are identified by a paper clip icon in the message list.
Depending on the format of the message that you receive, attachments will appear in two different places in the
message. The format in which a message is composed is indicated in the title bar at the top of the message.
If the message format is HTML or plain text, attachments will appear in the attachment box below the Subject line.
If the message format is HTML or plain text, attachments will appear in the attachment box below the Subject
line.
If the message format is RTF (Rich Text Format) attachments will appear in the body of the message. Even
though the file appears to be embedded in the message, it is actually still a separate attachment.

Instant Search helps you to quickly find items in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. The Instant Search pane is always available in all of your Outlook views, such as Mail, Calendar, and Contacts. Search fields that you add are specific to where you are within Outlook, such as Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, Folder List, or Journal. The search fields are also specific to the Outlook e-mail profile (Outlook e-mail profile: A profile is what Outlook uses to remember the e-mail accounts and the settings that tell Outlook where your e-mail is stored.) that you are currently using. The search fields persist after you exit and restart Outlook. Find a message 1. In Mail, click the folder that you want to search.
2. In the Instant Search box, type your search text.
Messages that contain the text that you typed are displayed in the Instant Search Results pane with the search text highlighted.
NOTE: By default, it is not necessary to click the Search button to start the
search. The Search button is enabled only if you have cleared the Display search results as I type when possible check box in the Search Options dialog box.

Outlook 2007 Calendar Make time and remember to do things Outlook isn't just about e-mail. It's also about organizing your time, which you do in the calendar. When you create or open an item in your calendar, you'll see that the Ribbon shows groups and commands appropriate for helping you manage your time.
When you create any type of calendar entry, a reminder is set automatically. To change the reminder time for an appointment, do this:
On the Appointment tab, click the arrow to open the Reminder list and then select a time. Once you've made a change, click Save & Close on the far left of the
Ribbon.
Note The way that you set the standard reminder time for all appointments has not changed. You still do that by clicking Options on the Tools menu in the main Outlook window, and then setting the default time on the Preferences tab, under Calendar.

OUTLOOK 2007_Calendar:
Appointments _ Meetings. What’s the difference? Schedule an appointment
Appointments are activities that you schedule in your calendar that do not involve inviting other people or reserving
resources. You can schedule recurring appointments, view your appointments by day, week, or month, and set
reminders for your appointments.
You can specify how the appointments in your calendar look to others by designating the time of the appointment as
busy, free, tentative, or out of office. Also, others can give you permission to schedule or make changes to
appointments in their calendars.
Schedule a meeting
A meeting is an appointment to which you invite people or reserve resources for. You can create and send meeting
requests and reserve resources for face-to-face meetings or for online meetings. When you create a meeting, you
identify the people to invite and the resources to reserve and you pick a meeting time. Responses to your meeting request appear in your Inbox. You can also add people to an existing meeting or reschedule a meeting.

Calendar knows your choices:
Now that you see your calendar, you can start scheduling. You'll choose from four types of entry. By knowing the different types, you can be more effective when you schedule your activities.
Appointment: An appointment is an activity that involves only you, at a scheduled time.
Meeting: A meeting occurs at a scheduled time, like an appointment. The difference is that you invite other people by using a meeting request that's sent via e-mail.
Event: An event is an activity that lasts all day long. Unlike an appointment or meeting, an event doesn't block out time in your calendar. With an event, you can still have other entries appear in your schedule for that day.
Task: A task is an activity that involves only you, and that doesn't need a scheduled time. New to Outlook 2007 is an area in your calendar's Day and Week views that shows tasks.
