Focus Group Icebreakers The purpose of these icebreakers is to facilitate engagement of stakeholders at District Focus Group Sessions and one on one, meetings. 1. What do you understand by Rural Development and where should Rural Development be focussed? 2. Where in your opinion are the rapid economic growth points of the Eastern Cape situated? 3. Where should the main Provincial transport routes/activity corridors be located? 4. Which areas or towns or settlements do you feel should be the main development centres (nodes) of our Province? 5. The study of the Province concludes the growth of settlements is consolidating in city regions, alongside the main transport routes and within easy commuter distance from the main centres. Do you agree with this? 6. If you agree, where in your view, are these city regions and these growing settlements?
7. What areas in our Province do you value as special places which should be protected or conserved? 8. Where should development be encouraged and where should it not go?
9. What would be the best way to engage with stakeholders to obtain their buy in and support for the Provincial Spatial Development Plan and its proposals?
10. Do you feel Transportation system could help develop our rural areas? If so, where we should upgrade transport systems and how? 11. How vital do you feel that there should be a limit to the spread of urban settlements, villages, towns and cities?
12. How do you wish to remain informed and participate in the future planning of the Province?
