Time : 10.00 PM

Place : At Mahesa boarding house

Interviewer : Abrar

Interviewee : Mahesa student (Mr. Fahri)

Program : GIC

Interviewer : I want to ask you about the objective of teaching English at the

courses. As every body knows that, the objective teaching English

at this course is matched as program and level. What do you think

of this objective?

Interviewee : The objective is very detailed so that we can know what student‟s

position. All of programs have objective, which are completed by

material.

Interviewer : What materials used at the courses?

Interviewee : The materials used at the courses are varieties, but the handbooks,

which must be belonged by students are handbooks published by

the course itself. Besides, there are some audio and visual materials

used at the course, for example, in pronunciation II, teachers use

Barron audio. Sometime teachers use AJ. Hock so that all students

have Aj. Hock Audio.

Interviewer : What methods used at this course?

Interviewee : Talking about methods, teachers are very creative and I get

different conditions here from other courses in out of Pare. I have

experiences for learning English in my hometown.

Interviewer : You said, teachers are very creative in teaching English.

Therefore, can you tell me implementation of the creative? As I

know that there are some programs here, may be each program has

different methods implemented by teachers.

Interviewee : My opinion based on experience, teachers focused on what

program they are teaching, for example, grammar program focuses

on how to make me understanding and doing exercises, it is not

speaking class. Teachers explained the materials related to

grammar, after that, they give me a chance to write down on my

notebook. Before closing activity, they give me exercises.

Interviewer : You described how the teachers teach grammar. How about

speaking, and other programs, did you join?

Interviewee : Ok, my experience, the teachers teach speaking by using some

techniques, sometime practice conversation, reading aloud,

repeating. Usually, after opening program, teachers give examples

related to next material so that we understand fast. After that, they

ask me to make and perform the examples made by me in class.

Although, the class is speaking class, but writing can be done. I

Interviewer : What program do you join?

Interviewee : I join speaking and grammar program.

Interviewer : What methods used at the courses?

Interviewee : I think methods here is very good. I am happy to study English

here because teacher use some techniques to make us

understanding in learning English. I join in speaking class, teachers

use some techniques. They explain the material then exercise. It is

in grammar program. In speaking class, they repeat and drill many

times, sometimes they ask me to make conversation then perform

in the classroom.

Interviewer : What are teacher‟ roles in teaching grammar?

Interviewee : Teacher guide and explain me.

Interviewer : How are learner‟ roles?

Interviewee : If they explain me, I am listener, sometime teacher gives me

chance to participate in making exercise.

Interviewer : You are speaking and grammar student, can you tell me how

teachers evaluate the lesson.

Interviewee : In evaluation, after understanding the material, they group me and

check one by one so that they know what they understood or no.

Every meeting teacher controls students orally in speaking because

teacher walks around to control students in speaking ability. In

grammar program, teacher evaluates after finishing the lesson

before closing activity.

temanya terserah.

Interviewer : Bagimana respon siswa ketika memimpin diskusi?

Interviewer : What are the distinction between the course here and other places?

Interviewee : the methodology make students to be active until speak in front of class

more and more.

Interviewer : I tell you that basic speaking one is there are some techniques, which

make students to speak and to be confident like conversation in front of

class. How is about in speaking two?

Interviewee : Teacher command student to make circle and communicate each other

about something. Teacher asks students to practice in front of class. Then,

other students give question. Student must stand lonely not like university,

the lecturer divided into some students, but not more then two students are

active. This process has some advantages, if the students do not know

about vocabularies, the teacher write down in the white board.

Interviewer : What do you think of teaching of English here?

Interviewee : The teaching of English here is divide in to three as teacher said the

basic, intermediate and advance, in the basic, teacher gives student

material and how to make them to practice confidently. The core, how the

students have confident in speak whenever. In the next level, how students

have idea, fluently, but students not emphasized on grammar although the

teacher used to correct in the end of speaking. In the last level, students

care about grammar, and appropriate words, and all of Element in English.

Interviewer : What the material in intermediate one?

Interviewee : The material depended on teacher, such as social, economy, politic, etc.

Interviewer : What is the teacher‟s role?

Seperti kita belajar tensis, dulu belajar dari smp samnapi sma, pas sampia

disini, ternyata grammarnya Cuma waktu sebentar.

Interviewer : Bgaiman sikap guru ketika mereka tidak active?

Interviewer : perogram apa saja yang diamabil sekarang ini?

Interviewee : speaking

tidur hanya tiga jam, pusing mempersiapkan diri mau peresentase. Selain

vocabularinya masuk.

Interviewer : bagaiman peran guru ?

Interviewee : Peran guru sebagai facilaitator, kecuali ada hala –hal yang memerlukan

guru.

Interviewer : Apakah kendala yang dialami didalam pembelajaran?

Interviewer : Kalau pronunciation dua bagaimana?

Interviewee :Caranya sama Cuma bukunya beda, kalau pronunciation II,

Interviewer : What are evaluations used in pronunciation program?

Interviewee : the evaluation here is every meeting and the end of program.

Interviewer : Peran guru bagaimana?

Interviewee : Peran guru dalam hal ini sebagi pemberi materi dan evaluasi,

namun tidak lepas dia sebagai pendidik karena selau memberikan

Interviewer : What do you think of Pare?

Interviewee : In my opinion, pare is very good to study English because here is

cheap in life and course cost. Enough five hundred thousands for

all cost here, namely: boarding house, program, and life.

Interviewer : How about materials?

Interviewee : Materials are very good and detailed from basic until

Date : On July 26, 2011

Time : 11.30 AM

Place : at Mahesa boarding house

Interviewer : Abrar

Interviewee : Mahesa Teacher (Mr. Fery)

Program : Speaking and Grammar

Interviewer : Siapa namaya pak?

Interviewee : Fery

Interviewer : Ngajar program apa pak?

Interviewee : speaking kadang juga grammar

Interviewer : Speaking dibagi jadi berapa di Mahesa Institute pak?

Interviewee : Di mahesa, speaking dibagi menjadi 3. level speaking satu, speaking

level 2, dan active speaking.

Interviewer : Speaking 1 tujuanya apa pak?

Interviewee : Speaking 1 ini masih basic, dasar. Sebagai basic untuk berbicara sendiri,

targetnya pada materi dan pada vocabulary. Selain itu juga ada confident,

bagaiman siswa itu bisa confidence didalam menggunakan bahasa.

Interviewer : Untuk metode basic speaking, bagaimana?

Hanya guru menyampaikan „how to

present, how to regulate presentation, the topic decided by students and

developed by teacher. Kalau active speaking, mereka sudah independent,

peran guru sebagai corrector and facilitator, kita mengoreksi

grammamatical, pronounciation.

Interviewer : Untuk evaluasinya, bagaiamana?

Interviewee : Ada 40 puluh kali pertemuan, 20x pertemuan, kami biarkan sepuas

puasnya untuk berexpresi, kalau udah 20 berikutnya baru masuk ke

korreksi, setelah practice tetap ada evaluasi, kami selalu mengaadakan

approaching, temani seperti teman biasa sambil perbaiki,

Program : Speaking and Vocabulary

Interviewer : Siapa namaya Pak?

Interviewee :Maraba‟i

Interviewer :Bapak kan termasuk putra daerah sini, bisa ga‟diceritakan bagaimana

sejarah Pare?

English area, religy seperti berjamaah.

Page 36: APPENDICES - eprints.ums.ac.ideprints.ums.ac.id/19010/8/APPENDICES.pdf2. as manager Figure 3. c. As explainer Teacher decided the material, which should be given to her students as

untuk berbicara didepan kelas selama lima menit. Didalam speech, guru

is power. Karena namaya saja kampung inggris, yang penting belajar,

ada papan, tiker slesai.

Interviewer : Sebagai seseorang director, bagaiamana perngalamanya ?

Mereka menekankan dasar agama

dan kedesiplinan. Tidak berasrama, karena mengiginkan semuanbya

sejahtera.

Interviewee : Dua tahun

Interviewer :Gi mana pengalaman ngajar grammar?

Interviewee :Menarik karena grammar itu berbeda dari speaking, lebih banyak kita

mikir daripada ngomong kalau di grammar.

Interviewer : Di level berapa ngajaarnya pak ?

Interviewer : Bagaiaman bentuk evalauasinya?

siswa.

Interviewer : Bagimana bentuk tes tulisnya?

Interviewee :lebih kepada pemahaman cara memakainya, daripada definisinya.

Interviewer : Berapa soal untuk final tesnya?

Interviewee :30 soal multiple choice, 10 soal, error analysis, dan tearkhir essay.

Interviewer : Gimana standar kelulusannya?

Interviewee : Harus mencapai minimal 70.

Interviewer : Gimana kalu siswa tidak mencapai skor itu?

Interviewee :ada beberapa chapter, mulai dari causative verb, tag question, etc.

Interviewer :Bagaimana metode pembelajaran grammar ditempat lain sesuai dengan

pengalaman karena pernah ikut kursus dulu sebelum mengajar?

Interviewee : Dari segi materi unggul tapi tidak diimbangi dengan kapacitas siswa

sehinnga, dia menerima hampir 30 siswa setiap kelas.

materi, jadi perlu dipertimbangkan.

Interviewee : Silahkan

speaking dua, kita disini setiap perogram mempunyai tujuan

Material, seperti MH. Com Martin, AJ Hock, Barron, etc, dan

Visual Material, seperti Gambar gambar sederhana.

Interviewer :Bagaimnakah metode yang digunakn dalam mengajar bahasa

Ingris?

Interviewee :Kebetulan bidang saya mengajar speaking, saya lebih sering

memberikan contoh sebelum menyampaikan teori kemudian

practice lagi setelah menyampaiakan materi. Praktiknya dengan

menyuruh membuat conversation kemudian praktik. Coversation

practice akan membuat hubungan antara siswa dan guru. Kalu saya

mengajar, harus kelas itu sperti boxer yaitu bukan hanya siswa saja

yang aktive, tapi siswa juga harus aktif. Setelah itu saya suruh

menelis pharagrap, yang tujuannya adalh supaya mereka terbiasa

didalm menulis text bahasa Inggris.

Interviewee : Tujuan pembelajaran bahasa inggris di kursus ini adalah

sangat simple, misalnya pada speaking satu bagaimana

siswa itu berani berbicara dan mampu menguasai materi-

materi dasar. Tujuan pada pengajaran grammar adalah

bagaiman siswa mempunyai kemampuan dasar didalam

menguasai grammar mulai difinisi dan bentuk

penggunaan bahasa Inggris. Pada toefl misalnya,

bagaiman guru itu bisa menganalisa soal-soal toefl.

Interviewer : Bgaimana cara menentukan tujuan pembelajaran itu?

Interviewee :Cara menetukan tujuan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di

sini adalh analisis dan assumpsi yang berdasrkan

pengalaman. Didalm menganalisis, kita suruh menulis

berbicara. Pembeljaran grammar saya mulai dengan

menerangkan materi kemudian praktik. Bisa dikatan

latihannya 60 persen karena satu pembhasan selau

mempunyai 2-3 kali latihan.

Interviewer :Bagaimankah evaluasi yang digunakan ?

Interviewee :Evaluasi yang digunakan adalah, evaluasi dalam proses

pembelajaran dan setelah selesai program. Ada dua

bentuk evaluasi yang digunakan dalam peroses

pembelajaran yaitu evaluasi harian dan mingguan,

sedangkan setelah selesai program, kita menggunakan

last exam untuk menentukan grade dari siswa tersebut

apakah masuk dalam katagori good, better, and best.

mendukung skill bahasa Inggris seperti pronunciation,

grammar, translation, and TOEFL. Setiap program

mempunyai target tetrentu yang disesuikan dengan

materi.

Interviewer : bagaimanakah cara bapak mengajar grammar?

Interviewee : Saya mengajar grammar dengan cara yang simple,

pertama dengan menjelaskan, kedua dengan menyuruh

siswa untuk membuat contoh, keempat mengerjakan

soal-soal.

bahasa Inggris. Ini juga sebenarnya bukan pada

Interviewer : Bagaimanakh cara bapak mengajar speaking II ?

Interviewee : Tujuanya, peserta didik mampu berkomunikasi aktive baik lisan maupun

tulisan denga kemampuan pada pemhaman budaya.

Interviewer : Bagaiman untuk evaluasinya pak?

Interviewee : Di intermediate speaking, guru memakai dua evaluasi, yaitu

menyampaiakan speech di depan guru dan berbicara dengan foreighners di

bali, guru memberikan bebrapa topic satu hari sebelum berbicara, seperti

corrupsi, televisi, ujian nasional, rokok, dan lain-lain. Mereka sekalianya

menyiapakan pembhasan topic di rumah, karena tidak tau apa yang harus

keluar.

Interviewer : Selain bapak ngajar speaking II, ngajar apa juga pak?

Interviewee : ngajar apa juga pak, ngajar pronunciation di GEC program.

Interviewer : gimana tujuan dari pronunciation di GEC pak?

Interviewee tujuanya bagaiaman mereka bisa baca oxford secara baik, sehinnga

materinya itu the alphabet, Consonant, pronouncing, exercise, pronounce

(e), pronounce (ae), etc.

Interviewer :Gimana cara ngajarnya pak?

Interviewer : Cara ngjaranya adalah kita jelaskan cara bacanya dibantu dengan audio,

kemudian mereka ikuti, setelah itu saya suruh satu persatu untuk

mengetahui sejauh mana mereka bisa practik teori yang mereka dapat.

Interviewer : Bgaiamana menurut bapak tentang strenghts and weaknesses di kursus

ini?

Interviewee : ya kita kesusahan dalam menagani siswa karena tidak dibatasai jumlah

siswa dan facilitas seperti tempat yang kurang bagus walaupun siswanya

tidak mengeluh, tapai saya rasa itu kurang. Klau keunggulanya disini,

materinya padat, waktu singgkat jadi anak itu harus fokus dalam belajara

SEJARAH MAHESA INSTITUTE PARE – KEDIRI

1. Lahir pada tanggal 28 September 1998.

2. Letak Mahesa Institute di Jl. Mawar No. 4 Mangunrejo – Tulungrejo – Pare – Kediri 64212,

dengan nomor telp. & Fax ( 0354 ) 398123. Website : www.mahesainstitute.com ; E-mail :

3. Asal kata Mahesa Mahesa berasal dari kata “ KEBO “ yang berasal dari bahasa indramayu yang

artinya binatang hina yang pekerja keras dan gigih. Menurut arti filosofinya, kerbau adalah

binatang yang hina dan sangat penurut dipakai untuk bekerja apa saja. Disisi lain mengandung

kekuatan dan kegigihan dalam bekerja keras namun tetap tunduk dan nurut dalam arti tetap

rendah hati meskipun menyimpan banyak kekuatan. Dalam bahasa indonesia mahesa

mengandung arti mahir berbahasa.

4. Proses awal

Page 50: APPENDICES - eprints.ums.ac.ideprints.ums.ac.id/19010/8/APPENDICES.pdf2. as manager Figure 3. c. As explainer Teacher decided the material, which should be given to her students as

- Didirikan oleh 3 orang, dimana 1 orang pemilik tempat dan 2 orang yang mempunyai disiplin

ilmu dibidang Bahasa Inggris.

- Pada saat pertama kali beroperasi, mahesa mempunyai 1 kelas ( ruang tamu milik bapak

Solichan ), 1 program ( General English Course / GEC ), 2 orang teacher ( Habib Nasihin, S.Ag

dan Andrian Dwi Iijawanto, A.MD), dan 7 orang siswa pertama.

- Berangkat dari sewa tempat, beberapa bulan berikutnya kemudian berkembang menjadi

beberapa program ( Program reguler ; dari program GEC kemudian Conversation, Translation,

Writing, Listening dan kemudian TOEFL ) dan setelah program reguler berjalan lancar, maka

beberapa tahun kemudian dibuka program Intensive ( Basic Grammar I, Basic Grammar II, Basic
