+What is Appearance? Appearance is how someone or something looks like.

Topics related to appearance have been under consideration since centuries.

Appearance has been given immense importance and taken care of by not only females but also males.

The aim of out study was to find out how sensitive college students are towards rejection due to the way they looked.

+Researches & Theories

Many researches have been conducted by different researchers related to this topic.

Research by Julie McLachlan, Melanie J. Zimmer-Gembeck and Leanne McGregor suggests that rejection is subject to anxious and angry expectations of rejection.

According to Doyle & Markiewicz, it is important for a child to gain support from parents as it develops their confidence and self-esteem.

Another research conducted by McDonald and his colleagues suggested that good relations with friends and family helps individuals cope better with rejection.

+Methodology

Adopted questionnaire of Downey and Feldman (1996).

Measures rejection sensitivity due to appearance.

In the questionnaire 5 situations were given to the participants in which they had to imagine themselves and indicate their concerns and expectation of rejection.

Example of a situation mentioned in the questionnaire: You are trying on clothes at a department store and you notice that you are five pounds heavier than last wee.

Concern and expectation recorded separately on a scale of 1 to 6 points. (1=Very unconcerned & 6=Very concerned)

+Conclusion

After study as a whole, it is evident that there is a difference between males and females.

Female students have more anxious concern and expectations about their appearance as compared to male students.

Age, however, does not play a vital role but does have some effect on how anxious concerns and expectations university students have.

+Future Research & Considerations There were several limitations of this study.

There were not ample students who filled out the questionnaire.

Research conducted in only one business university.
