It started back in 2008 whenthe recession hit me here inCanada. I personally believethat it was due to this VERYmentality of GREED.American Corporate and

personal greed hit an all timehigh! Banks were giving outmortgages to people whodidn’t even qualify for amortgage,justtotryandmakeeven more money. PUBLICCOMPANIES had CEO’smaking MILLIONS UPONMILLIONS of dollars whiletheir staff barely could makeends meet! The Americanmarket collapsed and thewhole world went into a

recession!

YoumayaskwhyI’mbringingthisallup…Wellthat’swhenIlost my computer contract (Iwasworkingatthetimefixingcomputers). At that point Iownedahouse,acarandhadayoung family (Wife, son anddog) and did not know whatto do. I started applying forjobs, and here I was with aDegree in Computer Science(Graduated from Ryerson

University in that year) and Icould not find a job. To tryandkeepafloat IopenedupaDollar Store and ComputerStore in Brampton, Ontariowithwhatever little nest egg Ihad left, and also foundworksellingaglorifiedLintRollerinvarious Department Stores inOntario. As the recession hadjust started and was gettingworse, sales in the twobusinesses were just horrid,

and my other side job sellingtheLintRollerswasnotpayingoffanything…Andthenattheend of 2008 what I did notthink was possible actuallyhappened to me…like manypeople in North America andtheworld…Iwentbankrupt.

I begged my parents to movein, it was a very low time inmylife,butIkeptfaithinthehigher power and keptbelieving thatGodhad aplan

and I knew Iwas going to bein a better place. At the timehowever I did not knowwhattodoandIwasabitdepressed.Loosingeverythingyouhaveisnotagreatfeelingatall.

Time and time again I wouldlook at the news only to seemore doom and gloom andmany corporations that youthoughtwere “too big to fail”goingbankruptanddyingout!Some of the top banks were

just wrapping up and leavingthousands without money! Itwas a frenzy, people were notsure whether to even trustBANKS! Do you keep yourmoneyunderabednow?Likethese were at that timeSERIOUSQUESTIONS!

Iputmy resumeout tomanyplacesinNorthAmerica(BothCanada and the US) only toget 2 interviews which werenotfruitfulatall.

ItookwhateverlittleIhadleftand started doing computerrepair and opened up a sidebusiness in computer repairafter that. It started to growandwashelpingmetopaythebills.Thenat theendof2010this little world of apps wasshown to me. Steve Jobs hadbrought out the next iPhoneand was promoting apps andthis world of micro-softwareproducts that were starting to

“REVOLUTIONIZE” thewaywealllivedandworked.

I thought hey lets check itout…AndIwashooked!SinceI was 10 years old I alwaysaimed at being a video gamedeveloper and this was theperfectopportunity. It seemedlike a higher power was atwork even though I did notunderstand it, but due topersonalreasons,Ihadtocloseup my Computer Repair

business.ItookwhateverIhadearned and saved up for awhile andwent full force intothe App world and ThankGod, since then, I have beenmoving forward and growingdaily!

Now today I’m theCEOof asuccessful app business withover 25+ apps in over 10+marketplacesandgrowingevenmore!Ilookbackatthosedaysof theRecessionandGreedat

the cost of others, and I trulybelieve that we can make abetter world by having moreRESPONSIBLEMILLIONAIRES rather thanGREEDYpeople.

I’veseentoomanypeoplestartthis business with wrongimpressions thinking that it’sreally EASY MONEY or thatit’s a business that they canoutsource everything and putthingson“Auto-Pilot”…HA!

No business can start withoutyou actually taking stepstowardsrunningitandmakingit work. As I said earlier you

getoutofitwhatyouputintoit! YES there are special toolsand methods that may makethis business a bit easier orfaster to run or get closer to“Auto-Pilot”, but you HAVEto dowork to get them setupproperly! You have to makethecalls,youhavetosetuptheaccounts, you have to get theappscreated,youhavetokeepyour business up to date, youhave to outsource and build

therightteam,etc.

Can you do this part time?SURE!

Can you do it full time?MOSTDEFINITELY!

But can youdo this onAuto-Pilot?Letme just suffice it tosay that I have been in thisbusiness for several yearsnow,and I can assure you there isno magic Auto-Pilot buttonout there, even though there

aresometoolsandsystemsthathelp you to getCLOSE.Thisisabusinessat theendofthedayandthe fasteryoucangetout of your head that this issome sort of Get-Rich-Quickscheme,thefasteryou’llbeonyourwaytotruesuccess.

appreciation from your familyandpeers, being able to enjoyyourlifetothefullestonyourterms,andeverydaybeingableto SMILE! Those things thatmoney can’t buy are in myopinion true “richness” and ifyou have those bases covered,then financial riches will justmagnify those qualities evenmore.

SMILE exercise. That’s right,goaheadandgiveyourself thebiggestsmilefromeartoear!Itshould be so wide that yourcheeksstarttohurtabit!Holdthat for about10 seconds andrepeat3times.Thisshouldputyou into a state of mind thatgoes hand in hand withsuccess, a positive CAN DOmindset! Firstly I’ve heard most if notall these claims, from, “Myfriend from out of town

develops apps and is amillionaireanddrivesthisnicecar, etc.” to the ageold, “Theguy made 6 figures in aweekendmakingastupidlittlefartapp!”

Making apps firstly is achallenge!Makingmoneyfromapps consistently andsuccessfully is anotherchallenge. That being said letmetellyoumyexperienceandwhatyouwillmostlikelyseeas

a realitywhengetting into theapp world. Now before Ibegin, let me point out thatthosestoriesthatyouhearmayverywellbeTRUEandIdon’tdoubt that they are. Howeverunderstand that if they aretrue, those same stories arewhat I like to callOUTLINERSinthisbusiness.TheyarenottheREALITYinthis business for mostdevelopersingeneral.

Can you make millionsovernight? YES! Howeverthat’slikesayingyoualsohavethe potential of becoming amillionaire tomorrow bypurchasing a lottery ticket.Nowtellme,ifyoupurchasealottery ticket, can you alsomake millions overnight? Ofcourse you can, that is if youhit the correct numbers. Theodds of you hitting thosenumbers are quite large! The

same holds true for the appworld!

Whenthingswerejuststartingout in the app world, therewere a handful of apps and ahandful of developers. Fastforward now many years laterand we have nearly a millionapps in the Apple App Storeand hundreds of thousands ofdevelopers worldwide andmillions more on the way!Everyone is trying to get into

the app world and thecompetition is fierce! If youthink that you are going tomake it with just one app…well let me enlighten you onthe same mistake I wentthrough and a commonmistake that most appdevelopersfallinto.

When I first started workingonmyfirstappIthoughtIhad

the next big hit! I thought Iwas going to be the next bigAngryBirds!Thisisacommonideathatbrandnewdevelopersstart off with. They see somebig app out there or come upwith some big app idea theybelieve is worth millions andtheninvesteverylastcentintoit.

My first app was Melina’sConquest,averyambitious3DRetro Role Playing Game! By

any standards, that game wasquite technical and hadthousands upon thousands oflinesofcode.Ispent8monthsonitwithafewdevelopersandvolunteersandIpersonallywasworking daily for 8 monthsaround 12-15 hours EVERYDAY non-stop to try and getthe game finished. I investedthousands into this endeavorthinkingthatIwasworkingonthe next big hit! 20+ levels in

fullRetrostyle3D!

In fact there was one pointwhere I spent 2-3 weeks withless than a few hours of sleepper day and massive amountsof energy drinks and coffee.NotonlydidInearlydiefromthis (I was drinking 2-3+energydrinksdaily,withafewcoffees, power bars, andliterally very little sleep andonly McDonalds as my foodsource!) I also burnt out and

was on my very last amountsofmoney!

The moment of truth camewhenIfinallyreleasedtheappand spent a few thousand onmarketing aswell. FromPressreleases to free app downloadwebsites tocontestsandmuchmore, I had done every singlethingbythebookandbeyondthebook!

first month…(DRUMROLLPLEASE)…Ibroughtinatotalof…LESS THAN $200 USDOLLARS! (In retrospect, Iplaced my app at $4.99 andhad no LITE/FREE version,nor did I have any form ofadvertising or other forms ofmonetizationbuiltin.Nopushnotifications, no extra specialthings, no game center,nothingbutaplainappatjust$4.99.Thiswasdoomedfrom

thebeginning!)

Shattered, confused, dazed,sad, bitter, and nearly givinguponlife,letsjustsufficeittosay I was in tears nearly,screaming loud at the top ofmy lungs while driving a vanthat I didn’t evenwant in thefirst place, and everythingaroundmejustSUCKED!

Thisistheturningpointinmystory, and the ultimate reason

whyItoldyouearlierthatfaithandamajorreasonwhyyou’redoing this are going to beimportant to you whenrunningthisbusiness.Youwillhave those timeswhere thingsjust don’t make sense andyou’ve invested thousands inan app and a lot of time onlytoyieldhorribleresults!

I started immediately to stopblaming God and started tobecomeREALLYGREATFUL

forallthethingsinlifeIDIDhave,likearoofovermyhead,food on my plate, I was alivewith a beautifulwife and kidsthatlovemeandwerewithmethrough the tough times. AtthispointIreflectedonwhyIgot into this in the firstplace;because I had a true love formakingvideogamesandapps.Iknewthatthiswasmycallingand I would do everything Icouldtomasterit.Iknewthis

iswhat Iwanted to do inmylife, I wanted to be successfulat it and make a real livingfromitandenjoymylifefromthe fruits that come fromcreatingthings.

At that moment I had anepiphany…“Just take onemorestep…makeanotherapp,really fast,without spending8months.You’velearnedhowtomake apps over the past 8months. Now replicate what

you have done and try andmakea singleapp in1monthorless!”

Hmmm what a thought! If Icould reduce the time it tookto make an app and startmakinganapp in1monthorless, I could potentiallyDOUBLE UP what I wasbringingin.Itwasn’tgoingtobring back the thousands ofdollars I lost, but it would atleast startgivingmehope that

one day this business couldpotentially lead me to a verylucrativefuture.

That’s when I was able tobuild Intimate Fireplace withthe help of my friend andcolleague Amit. We also builtASRI Astral Space RacerInfinitywhichwasanother3DSpaceracinggame.

Thosetwoappstookmeabout1.5monthstocreaterightafter

Melina’s Conquest and withvery little out of my pocketbecauseInowhadallthetoolsand experience I needed tomake apps that I could justreplicatewhat I did and reusecodefromMelina’sConquest.

With3appsintheAppleAppStore, I started looking toalternative markets to try andget into and start makingmoney. That’s when weentered the world of Android

and got intoGoogle Play andAmazon.Atthatpointwewerein 3 markets with 3 apps ineachofthemarkets.

And at that point cameDecember of 2011, where Iwasabletogofrom$200USDinthelastmonthto$600+!

Asyoucanseethereareseveraloptions available to you. Doyou want to sell to end usersjust inside of app stores or doyou want to sell apps to localbusinesses? Do you want tomake apps for other APPBusiness Owners who wouldoutsource your services or areyou planning to work for acompanyasanappdeveloper?

Depending on what youchoose,youmayhavetoagree

to non-compete laws andregulations. The best (butmostchallengingway)togetinis as an App Developer toMASS CONSUMER. Theother areas require more legalaspects and contracts in placesuch as NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) ornon-competecontracts.

APP TYPES: NATIVE,WEBANDADHOC

MobileAppsarebrokendowninto3DistinctCategories:

1. NATIVE APPS: Theseareappsthatrundirectlyonadeviceandcanrunwithorwithout an internetconnection.Youwillusuallyfind these types of apps in

an app marketplace such asthe Apple App Store orGoogleMarketplace.This isthe MAIN type of apppeople try to create, but it’shardertogetitapproved.

2. WEB APPS: These appsruninawebbrowseranddonot require any approvals.Using various forms ofmonetization,theseappscanalsomake you somemoneyas well, but they require a

constantinternetconnectiontorun.

3. AD-HOC APPS: Theseapps are usually made forcorporations and agenciesthat use apps internally.These are the same nativeapps from above, howevertheyarenotpartoftheAppStore and can be sold ontheir own. It’s basically aNON-PUBLICNativeApp.

ThepaththatIwillbetrainingyou on is the best and mostchallenging one which isbecoming an App DeveloperandsellingyournativeappsviaappstorestoMassConsumers.Other programs and booksmay recommend selling tolocal businesses owners whichisalsoanexcellentwaytostart.

However,ifyouwereplanningto work for another companymaking apps for them, then I

would not really recommendthat unless you are reallydesperateandgetasolidoffer.The reason is that you couldverywellmakethenexthitappthat could sell millions ofcopies and the sad realitywould be that you would notbe getting anything but yourbase pay from it. If you dochoose thispath,always try toinclude some formof royaltiesfromtheappsothatyoumake

money as well from thenumber of units sold and notjust the base pay for makingtheappasanemployee.

Okay so that’s enough on theApp Business and getting youintroduced into it. I didn’twanttoboreyouwithawholebunch of statistics on theindustry which you can easilyfind via a simple Googlesearch.Sufficeittosaythatthemobile app industry is

booming and expandingexponentially. Get on boardnow and start making moneybefore timepassesby andyouare left sitting far behind therest! You very well couldbecome the next AppTrillionaire!

STEP 1: Choose BusinessModel And Company Name(COST:$0)

a. Choose a business modelfrom the business models Ishowedyouearlier.

b.Chooseacompanyname.

TIP: Keep your companynamessimpleandmemorable!

c.Check online to see if yourcompany name and domainname are available. When Ifirst started I used somethinglike GoDaddy.com or

Misk.com to view whatdomainnameswereavailable.Iwould also recommend aGoogle search to see if thecompany name you may belooking for exists or not. Bymaking sure your companyname is not available you cansaveyourselfalotofheadachesand lawsuits in the future. Infact it tookmenearly2weeksto really comeupwitha solidcompany name and a lot of

research, and I finally settledonGameScorpion. I alsohadGame Torch in mind at thetime, however there wasanotherseveralplacesthathadthat name so I finally choseGame Scorpion and went fullforcewithit.

d. Decide on what businesstypeyourcompanyis.Areyouan individual (SoleProprietor)? Do you want toprotect your assets and plan a

larger undertaking(Corporation)? Whatever youare planning to do willdetermine how long thingstaketosetup.Asoleproprietorfor example can be setup onApple App Store in a day orless whereas a Corporation(Like what I have) can takeyou three weeks or longer toget approved. If you are notsure, I would recommendtalking to a lawyer or

accountantwhomaybeversedonadvisingyouonthebenefitsofwhat typeof companymayworkbetterforyou.

STEP 2: Open The Business(COST:$60to$2,000)

a. This week go to your localcity hall or businessdevelopment office to learnhow you can open a business.You will be required to payabout $60 to $2,000

depending on which type ofbusiness you open. SoleProprietorships tend to costmuchlessthancorporationssofigureoutwhatworksbest foryouandyourbudget.FormeIknew this was my long termbusiness and what I wasplanningtodofulltimealwaysso I chose to open acorporation. It cost mepersonally around $500 inCanada to open the

corporationonlineandpayforanamessearch.

STEP3:WebsiteandDomain(COST:$100-$300/Year)

a. Go to GoDaddy.com orMisk.com and reserve yourdomain name for yourbusiness there for about $10-$20/year. I personally chose a.COM address over any otherone due to the fact that a.COM is much more

prominent when compared tootherdomains.

b.Next choose a web hostingservicetohostyourwebsiteforyou. This could cost youbetween $80-$200/year.GoDaddy.com offers manybasic hosting packages. Ipersonally use Exabytes.comfor our hosting package as Ifindthemaffordableandmoreimportantly,reliable.

c. For the website I setup aWord Press installation(www.wordpress.org) andobtained a theme for easywebsite management. Therearemanyplacestoobtainwordpress themes such asThemeForest.net,ElegantThemes.com andTemplateMonster.com.

TIP: If you have trouble insettingthisup,simplyheadonover to www.fiverr.com and

outsource the website for just$5! That’s right, one of thenice little trickswe use in theindustry is that we try andoutsource what we can.Fiverr.com offers manyproviders who will install andsetup your basic word pressinstallationforalowpriceandyou can be up and runningeasilybysimplyprovidingyourwebhostingdetailstoaserviceprovider.Makesuretochange

your passwords and accessinformation after they setthingsupsuccessfully.

d. Take a quick crash coursetutorialonhowtoupdateandedit your new website andtheme. You can findmany ofthese tutorialsonlinebydoingasimpleGooglesearchorevensearchingYoutubevideos.

STEP 4: Bank Accounts(COST:$10-$20/Month)

a.Thisweekfocusongettingabank account setupSPECIFICALLY for yourbusiness. Even if you arerunning aSoleProprietorship,youstillshouldhaveaseparateaccount for your business.Many banks offer businessbankaccountsforaround$10-$20permonth.InmycaseasIamconsideredanInternationalApp Developer being inCanada, I had to setup two

accounts, one for CanadianDollars and one for AmericanUS Dollars. I set theseaccounts up for around$15/month per account.When you sign up to appstoresinthefuturesteps,you’llbe required to provide thisinformation to them so thatthey can pay you via directdeposit.

STEP 5: Hardware andServices (COST: Up To

$1000-$3000)

TIP: To truly keep yourbusiness mobile, purchasedevelopment devices that aremobileaswell,suchasLaptopsinsteadofDesktops.

a.APPLEDEVELOPMENT

Apple Development willrequireyoutopurchaseaMaccomputer system. The Macmustbecapableofrunningthelatest version of xCode which

means it must most likely bean Intel basedMac computer.Doing a simple Kijiji,Craigslist or local Classifiedsearch should yield you manypeoplewhoaresellingtheiroldusedMacsforcheaperprices.Iwas able to work out a dealwhenI firststartedandscoreda sweetMacbookAir 13 Inchfor just $800! Look aroundand see where you can saveyourmoney.TheMac system

alone can cost you up to$2000 or more depending onwhat system you are planningto buy for your developmentpurposes.Anotheroptionistopurchase a PConly and use aservice called Mac In Cloud(http://www.macincloud.com).Mac In Cloud basically is aMac computer you can usethrough the Internet thatallowsyoutosubmityourappto Apple without requiring a

physical Mac computer. Thiswill cost you up to around$50/month touse this service,so it’s a great option for newdevelopersonabudget.

b. ANDROIDDEVELOPMENT

ForAndroidDevelopmentyouwill require either a Mac orWindows based system. Youcan easily purchase verypowerful PC Windows Based

Laptop system at your localelectronics store for around$500. I purchasedmy laptopsforexamplefromBestBuyandFutureshophereinCanada.

The tools I will berecommending fordevelopment in this bookwillbe heavily PC and Windowsbased. Having a solid PCWindows laptop then will bevery important for yourbusiness.

c. Internet is aREQUIREMENT for thisbusiness to run successfully.Sign up for a constant highbandwidth internetconnection. You want to beabletouploadanddownloadalotofdatawithoutlimitations.Most basic monthly internetpackages should suffice. InCanada I pay around$40/month for High SpeedInternet. This should be

comparable to most placesaround the world. Having asolid internet connection issomething that I just can’tstress enough! MAKE SUREYOUHAVEIT!

d. Obtain testing devices totest your apps out. I wouldrecommend to purchase atleast one Android device andoneApple device. I personallyhave an iPhone, iPad and aGoogle Nexus 7 Android

Tablet.Youcanpurchasewhatyou feel would help you themost. I have found that I canpurchase tablets and phoneseasily via Kijiji and Craigslistfor relatively low prices. I’vebeen able to personally obtainTablets for as low as $150!Whenever possible, save yourmoney as there are a lot ofexpensestogetthisbusinessupandrunning.

STEP 6: SignUpToVarious

App Markets and SetupVarious Accounts (COST:$150-$300)

TIP: Make a special place inyour web browser bookmarkssection to start putting all thelinksyoucomeacrossforyourappbusiness.Therearealotofwebsites and tools you willfind along the way so alwayskeep a list so you have easyaccessandwontforget!

a.AppleAppStore

Youwill need to sign up as adeveloper by visitinghttp://developer.apple.com/programs/register/You want to sign up to theiOS Developer Program andnot the Mac DeveloperProgram unless you plan tomake Apps for MacComputers specifically. Thecostwillbearound$99/yeartobeanAppleAppDeveloper.

b.GooglePlayAndroidMarket

Visithttps://play.google.com/apps/publish/to sign up to Google PlayMarketsoyoucandevelopforthe main AndroidMarketplace. This will costyou about $25 as a one timefeebyGoogle.

c.OtherMarkets

The followingothermarkets Ihave personally tested and

highly recommend. Pleasemake sure to sign up for anaccount on these if you can.Notallofthemareavailabletoall countries and regionshoweverthesearetheonesthatIhavetestedwithgreatresultscompared toothers.There areliterally dozens of marketplaces out there for theAndroid market and onlyONE for the Applemarket. Ipersonally use the tool ShiVa

3Dtomakemyapps so I canprogram my apps once andthen port them over to manymarkets without issue, evenother alternate markets likeRIM Blackberry, HP WebOSand several others. Over theyears I have tested out manymarketplaces and so thefollowing marketplaces havebeen tested by me and havemade me more money thanothers.

Create an ad on one of thesesites that shows outsourcedservice providerswhat you arelookingtohavemade.Donotput specifics or your app ideain the job posting unless youwant to risk your idea beingstolen! Your goal is to keep itsimple, for example, “Lookingfor an app developer tomakean Entertainment or Utilityapp” and then go into detailson what you expect from a

serviceprovider.Whateveryoudo, do NOT put your exactideathere!

STEP 2. HOW TO SELECT ANOUTSOURCING SERVICEPROVIDERa.SelectaServiceProvider

After selecting a serviceprovider, have them sign aNon-Disclosure Agreementwith you (I recommend youspeak with a lawyer or findguidance on how tocreate/obtain a NDAAgreement).

Before you begin to discussANY ideas with any serviceprovider, always have an

agreement signed by them.Thismaybehardtoenforceinvariouspartsoftheworld,butat theendof theday it showsthe service provider that youmean business and that yourideaisvaluable.

TIP:This 3Stepmethodwillinmostcasesgetyouadecentservice provider who will giveyou the results you want.Findingasolidserviceprovidercan take YEARS! It is not an

A.DPI–Writtenasdpidpi Stands for Dots PerInch. It isameasureusedto determine how manydotsofINKwillbeplacedinside of a single inch.The higher this numberis, the higher the quality

oftheimagewillbewhenPRINTED OUTPHYSICALLY. This alsoincreases your image sizeand resolution as well.Usually forwebpurposes,thedpiissettoaround72as a common amount,however when you wantbetter looking graphics,higher dpi values arerequired.Forourappswewillspecificallybemaking

allourgraphics and iconsin 300 dpi. You can alsochoose higher amounts,but for now we arekeepingitat300dpi.

B.ResolutionResolution is the numberof PIXELS across yourscreen by the number ofPIXELSdown the screen.A pixel is simply a singledot of light that canchangecolor.Ifyoutakea

Each SHEETof paper inthatexampleisconsidereda LAYER. Layers are animportant part of imageeditingandcanallowyou

todothingssuchasmoveobjectsaroundinfrontofbackgrounds, or evensimplyhide layers tohelpyouinimageeditingevenmore. The concept oflayers will become moreeasier to understand asyou start learning andusing an image editormore.

NOTE: At this point weare assuming that you

Before I start going over thisbasicoverviewofGIMP,firstlyIwanttoalertyouthat this isjustaverybasicoverviewofanimage editor. If this stuffintimidates you, not toworry!When I first started learning

this stuff, it also was quiteconfusing, however when youaredealingwithgraphicartists,knowing this stuff is essential!There are too many times inthis business that you will bedealing with images, and thelast thing I want you to gothrough is having a greedygraphic artist charge you a lotof money for something youcandoyourselfeasily.Learningbasic image editing for this

reason is important! I’ve seenpeople get charged forsomething as simple asSHIFTING THELOCATIONOFTEXTinanimage to simply changing thecolor of a background! Somepeople have been chargedhundreds of dollars for suchsimplechangestoanimage!

So suffice it to say, learning abasicamountof imageeditingcansaveyoualotofmoneyin

this business in the long run.Let’snowtakealookatGIMPandsomeofthetoolsitoffers.

GIMP consists of severalwindows. One of the mostused windows is theTOOLBOX. The toolbox hasmany tools that you will usefrequently insideofGIMP. Inthe bottom listing I haveBOLDED items that we usemost often in image editingand also added a little

GIMPDOCKS

InGIMPwewillbenavigatingour image using variousDOCKS. Docks are variouswindows that can allow us toview different aspects of our

image. For example, we maywant to view layers, and so atthat point we open up theLayers Dock. We may alsowant to zoom in andnavigatethroughouttheimage,andforthis we use the DisplayNavigationDock.

Simply by clicking on theTINY ARROW next to thenameoftheDockwindowyouarein,youcanaddmoredockwindows to the list.Themost

common dock windows youwill be using in GIMP is theLayers Dock and theNavigationDock.

GIMPSELECTIONMODES

Previously I outlined variousMARQUEE (Marching Ant)selection tools. Each of thesetools has various types ofSELCTIONMODES.

You can ADD to a selection,SUBTRACTfroma selection,or even INTERSECT acurrentselection.Eachmethodwill allow you to grow or

shrink your selection in avariousway.

Once you have made yourinitial selection you can nowShrink or Grow it by thefollowingmethods:

ToShrinkonthemenusimplypressSelectàShrinkandselectapixelamounttoShrinkby.

ToGrow,onthemenusimplypress SelectàGrow and select

a pixel amount to Grow by.Youwill find this tobeaveryeasy to use method to selectvariouspartsofyourimages.

Finally we have the MAGICWAND Marquee tool. Therewill be times that you haveunusual edges or even curves.A simpleway to select objectsis by using a RANGE ofcolors.ThisiswheretheMagicWand marquee tool comes inhandyandallowsyoutoselect

various parts of an imagesimply by clicking on it. Thiscan save you a LOT of timecomparedtoothermethodsofselection.

GIMP IMAGE

SCALING/TRANSFORM/CROP

If we select a layer from ourLayers Dock, we can simplyHIDE/Make Visible the layerby clicking on the little EYEiconnexttoit.

In order to SCALE the layer,wesimplyselecttheScaleToolandresizeourimagebysimplyclicking and dragging or evenputtinganimagesize.

Tomoveour layer,we simplyselect our layer in the Layersdock and select the MoveTool. We then select on anyactivepixelinthelayerandwewillbeabletomovethat layerto any location in the imagecanvas.

Finally ifweuseourMarqueetools,wecanselectanareaandthen select ImageàCrop ToSelection,andtheentireimagewillbeshrunkdowntothesizeofyourselection.

FILLSANDGRADIENTS

Usingthepaintbucket,wecanfill an ENTIRE area of animage with either a singlecolor, or an image pattern.SimplyselectthePaintBucket

tool,chooseacolorfromyourcolors list and then click onanyareaintheactivelayeryouwishtohavethecolorpaintedonto. Notice that the PAINTbucketwilltendtofillinbasedonaregionitfindsviacolororevenanentirelayer.Ifyouusethe Marquee tool, you caneven force a fill in a certainlocation.

AGradientisafancywordforsaying, “Draw colors from

Color 1 to Color 2 in asmoothway”.Forexample,IfIwant to go from Black toWhite, Iwould first startwithBlack and then continue ontoall the other Grays until Ireach White. It would justkeepgettinglighterandlighteras we get closer to the colorwhite. Gradients are used toenhance an image and give itanaddedtouchofDEPTH.

NEXTSTEPS

11. THE APPLIFECYCLE

In order to market appssuccessfully, you mustunderstand the appLIFECYCLE!

In general most apps that arelaunched tend to decline inpopularity to a point wheretheycanonlybe foundvia an

appsearch,whichiswhatIliketo callAppOblivion becauseitisnolongerinthecharts.Ingeneral at this point, the appsales volume decreases greatly,when compared to the initiallaunch and thus it is onlyfindableviaanappsearch.

The app lifecycle in generalgoesthroughthefollowing:

1.Launch

Thelaunchofanappcan

lastanywherefrom1to3weeks depending on howpowerfulyoustartedyourmarketing. In generalwithout marketing,chances are you’ll hit appoblivion faster. Keep inmind,therearetimeswithanappwhereanappmayjust hit oblivionimmediately.That can bepainful, somakesureyoudo some form of basic

marketing (spread theword via social networksliketwitterorfacebookoron message boards, etc.)and try and increase theodds of a longer launchperiod.

2. General sales gain andincrease

Aswordstartstospread,ifyou did a good job andhaveagoodapp,thenyou

should start to see salesrise over time. At anymoment however asalways, your app can hitoblivion, but an app canhave a lifetime of around1-6months before it diesout into oblivion ingeneral. Some apps don’treach oblivion for a longtime and first hit what isknown as TerminalVelocityorPlateau.

3. Terminal Velocity /Plateau

This is the point whereeveryone has learnt abouttheapporalreadyhastheappandiskindofgettingsickoftheapp.Eithertheapp isnowoutdatedor isjust no longer popularbecause everyone alreadyhas it. Angry Birds iscurrentlyinPlateauandisstarting its decline now.

Everyone either alreadyhas itor isgetting sickofit and is just waiting forthenextbighit.Thisstageis pretty much theHIGHEST sales you canexpectforanappwithoutany other forms ofadvancedmarketing.

4.Decline

At this point the app isloosing its steam and

heading right intoOblivion and there ispretty much no stoppingit unless you start someadvanced marketingtechniques as I outline inChapter12.

TheAppLifecycle

ZOMBIESYoumay see in thediagram alittle doodle of a zombie.These are apps that suddenlybecome popular and gain lifeagain in what appears to besome RANDOM growth(Hence the term zombie –Comingbacktolife)!

There are reasons for this,however and will keep you

going in the long run.Sometimes apps areSEASONAL, so you may seean app hit oblivion throughthe summermonths and thenin winter months pick upagain. When an app goesZombie, you want to help itget ALL the sales it can bydoing a marketing push orusingadvancedtechniqueslikeyou will learn in Chapter 12.Zombies need help to grow

and can easily become heavyhittersforquitesometime.

other apps and instantly ifsomeone searched forflashcards, out of over 1600apps,minewasinthetop100this time. That’s a HUGEdifference from being at thebottomofthelist!

The reason Ihavegiven it theterm“bubble” isbecauseuntilwe STEP OUTSIDE of thisbubble, we don’t realize what

isTRULYPOSSIBLE!

Take for example a bubbleconsisting of friends who allmake40k-50kperyearandallownahouseandhavefamilies.Askanyofthemtogooutfora $100/person dinner, andyou’ll have them flinch at theprice!Takethenextbubbleoffriends who are allDOCTORS, and you willhave them not even thinktwiceabouttheprice.

In most cases we are stuck invarious bubbles due to ourfamilies. These are the morechallengingbubblestobestuckin and it canbequitehard to“look outside” the bubble toseewhatispossible.

If your bubble consists ofpeople who have NEVERthought of millions or couldNEVER imagine themselvesevenmakingmillions,theywill

think you are crazy! Ironicallythe methods they follow doNOT attract millions ofdollars, nor do their lifestylesshow that they are living likemillionaires.So chances are, ifyouare“NOT”withthemandcopying them and living intheir lifestyle, you are “NOT”the same and they cannot“RELATE” to you. HENCEyou cannot build a lasting“RELATIONSHIP”andthat’s

wherefriendshipsdieoff.

You may have heard manypeople say, “Oh moneychanged them, they no longerare friends withme”. Inmostcases the irony is that inordertoMAKEMONEY you needtochange thebubble thatyouare a part of, and people inyouroriginalbubblewillNOTunderstand that. Because youwillbemorefocusedondoingthings the people in the

abundant bubbles do, youroriginal friends from youroriginalbubblewill think thatyou’ve changed or that“money” changed you. It isactually quite far from thetruth, and in actuality youcould not have changed untilyousteppedoutsidethebubbleand looked at what waspossible.

Even till today I have manyfriends/family who just don’t

understandwhyIdon’thavea“JOB”.UntilIsteppedoutsideofthat“bubble”Ididn’tknowthat you don’t have to have ajob, but could actually lovewhatyoudoandlivealifethatisEXTRAORDINARY!Inowhave a Career, I really don’twork, I love what I do andenjoyit!Thisissomethingthatmyoriginal“bubble”offriendsand family just do notunderstand.They call itweird

and every time I meet thesesamepeoplefromthatbubble,they always try and find someway to “RELATE” tome andalwaystryandgetmetoeitherget a “JOB”or do things thatthey can “RELATE” tobecause they have neversteppedoutsidethebubbleandjust want you to be a part oftheirbubble.

I actually had one person getso upset at me because I was

“SMILING”aboutlife.

“HOW CAN YOU BEHAPPY? YOU DON’THAVEAJOB!AREN’TYOUMISERABLE?”

The irony was, they weremiserable and I was happy,and that was what got themevenmore upset, they wantedme tobemiserablewith themso that they didn’t feel thattheywere crazy and the “only

one”whowasmiserable!

Ifyoucan’tsmileinlife,quitefrankly you’re wasting yourtime doing the wrong things.And I’m not talking aboutwaitingfortheRIGHTTIMEtobehappy andgrateful.Youshouldbeabletobehappyandgrateful about life at MOSTtimes (Obviously I’m notsayinggotoafuneralandstartdancing and laughing, that’snotwhat Imeanby this).But

formosttimesinyourlife,youshould be able to really enjoyand smile about it and say,“WOWthisisamazing!Ican’tbelieveIGETtodothis!”

As you become an appdeveloper, and start goingoutsideofyourbubble,expectto meet many from youroriginalbubblewhojustdon’tunderstand or relate to you.That’s because you arestepping outside of your

originalbubbletoseewhatelseis possible, and I can assureyou here and now thatANYTHING YOU PUTYOUR MIND TO ANDBELIEVE WITH FAITHANDAPOSITIVEMENTALATTITUDE IS FULLYPOSSIBLE!

STEP 5 –VISUALIZATIONOk so now onto some

visualization tools andexercises. So how do youvisualize abundance? Lets startat the root of it, which isMONEY.

ThesecondtoolisknownasaVISION BOARD. A VisionBoard simply put is a boardthatyouputANYTHINGyou

wouldliketohaveinyourlifeon. Imagine if there were nolimits and no restrictions ontime, money or resources. Ifyoucouldhaveanything,whatwould you get? Place this onyour Vision Board, and theneverydaycomeandtakealookat it when you wake up andbefore you go to sleep. Forexample you may take thebody of a physically “sexy”person that you may want to

have a body like and cut outyourheadandpasteitontop.

You may take a photo of thecaryouwanttodriveandthentake aphotoof you andpasteit on top in such a way thatyou are sitting inside the car.ThemoreyoucanbeapartofALLoftheseimages,themorereal it will feel and hence theemotions will grow and youwillreallystarttofeelthatyouHAVEthesethings.

After doing this exercise dailyfor years, Iwas able to obtainthingsthatIsimplyput insideof my own vision board.Around2007Icreatedavisionboard, and one of the thingson the Vision Board was, “IwillonlyworkonmyDreamsand Goals and have onlymyself and God as my boss”.HereIamnowin2013andIamLIVINGTHAT!

REMEMBERà You’re goalistoCONVERTtheusertoasale, not simply describesomething to them. Youwantyour features there, but yourfocus should be first on howwonderful your app has doneand what others have beensaying.
