Unit I: Rover, the DogMy dog, Rover, is so difficult to control. He is always getting on the couch when I am not in the room. I always tell him to get off of the furniture, but he just lies there looking at me. Last week, I was sitting on the couch with my girlfriend. He jumped up on the couch and tried to get between us. I immediately yelled, "Get down!", but he just sat there, desperate for attention. When I eat dinner, he always gets under the table and begs for food. Another problem is that I live next to a main road. He somehow gets out of the house and gets over the fence. Im afraid he is going to get hurt. And last week, he got into my closet and chewed up my shoes. I dont know how he got in- I usually keep the door closed. I think I need to take him to an obedience school.Available at: . Access in: Oct. 2006.

3. What would you do if you were Rover's owner?

I used latex paint because its easy to apply and cleans up with water. I needed middle week to finish this part of the job. I was very careful to apply the paint evenly because I did not want to have to apply two coats. I used a very close color to the original one. I needed to use a ladder to paint the ceiling and the upper parts of the walls. When I finished the job, I felt a great deal of satisfaction. I had to pat myself on the back. Even my dad said that I did a good job.(Adapted from: . Access: Dec./2009).

Childrens Day is a holiday in many countries around the world. Brazil Childrens Day is celebrated on October 12, which is also the day of Our Lady of Aparecida, a public holiday in Brazil.

United States Childrens Day is held on the 2nd Sunday in June.

Brazil October 15 is Teachers Day in Brazil. In 1947, teachers from a small school in So Paulo organized the first celebration of Teachers Day on this day. The date was chosen because, on October 15, 1827, Dom Pedro I approved a decree regulating the elementary schools in Brazil. The celebration gained popularity throughout the country, and October 15 was officially designated Teachers Day in 1963. In United States, National Teacher Day falls during Teacher Appreciation Week, which takes place in the first full week of May. Students often show appreciation for their teachers with token gifts. The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.Avalable at: . Access in: Jul. 2006.

Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November with a large feast of turkey, sweet potatoes, cramberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for dessert. In September 1620, a group of English people came to America seeking religious freedom. They were called the Pilgrims. Their first winter in America was difficult because they didnt have enough food and many Pilgrims died. The Indians taught them how to survive. The Pilgrims wanted to give thanks for their new life and new friends. So they invited the Indians to participate in their feast. This was the first Thanksgiving and was celebrated in 1621 in Massachusetts.Adapted from ;< http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Pilgrim_(Plymouth_Colony). Access in: Aug. 2010.
