1. Scara
Pe o scară cu lungimea l=100 m, un om urcă
cu viteza v1 = 1 m/s iar un altul cu v2 = 0,7
m/s.
a) Descrieți funcția distanță – dependentă de
timp.
1. Ladder
On a ladder with length l=100 m, a man go
up with the speed of v1 = 1 m/s and
another one with v2 = 0,7 m/s .
a) Describe the distance function as a time
dependent.
b) To be found the time needed for going up
100 m by each of the two persons.
Solution:
𝑑(𝑡) = 𝑣 ∙ 𝑡 ⟹ 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑡, 𝑔(𝑡) = 0.7𝑡, where
𝑓, 𝑔: [0; +∞) → [0; +∞)
The time needed by each person is t = l00 / v,
where v is the speed and l mm/s is the distance.
We obtain:
𝑡1 =𝑓(𝑡)
𝑣1 ⟹ 𝑡1 =
100
1 𝑠 = 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝒔
𝑡2 =𝑔(𝑡)
𝑣2 ⟹ 𝑡2 =
100
0.7 𝑠 ≈ 𝟏𝟒𝟐. 𝟖𝟓 𝒔

𝑔(𝑡) = 𝑣𝑡 + 𝑑0 . Calculați:
a) După cât timp prinde pisica prinde șoarecele?
2. The Mouse and the Cat
A cat runs at a speed of v1 = 5m / s, trying to
catch a mouse, her movement being
represented by the function 𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅, and the
law of correspondence f(t) = vt, knowing that
the mouse moves at speed 𝑣2 = 3𝑚/𝑠 and is at
d = 10 m in front of cat and that its movement
is expressed by the function 𝑔: 𝑅+ → 𝑅 and the
correspondence law 𝑔(𝑡) = 𝑣𝑡 + 𝑑0.
Calculate:
a) How long does the cat catch the mouse?
b) What distance will the cat go before
catching the mouse?
c) How long does the mouse go 19 meters? Soluție/Solution:
a) 𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅, 𝑓(𝑡) = 5𝑡, 𝑔: 𝑅+ → 𝑅, 𝑔(𝑡) = 3𝑡 + 10 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑔(𝑡) ⟹ 5𝑡 = 3𝑡 + 10 ⟹ 2𝑡 = 10 ⟹ 𝒕 = 𝟓𝒔
b) 𝑓(𝑡) = 5𝑡 𝑡 = 5𝑠 ⟹ 𝑓(5) = 25 𝑚 ⟹ 𝒅 = 𝟐𝟓𝒎 c) 𝑔(𝑡) = 30𝑚
𝑔(𝑡) = 3𝑡 + 10 ⟹ 19 = 3𝑡 + 10 ⟹ 9 = 3𝑡 ⟹ 𝒕 = 𝟑 𝒔

d0=5km. Știind că miscarea vaporului
3. The ship & the islands
A ship must arrive from one island to
another in t = 3.5 hours. It travels at speeds
of v = 36km / h and owing to a storm
outages d0 = 5km. Knowing that the
movement of the ship represents a function
𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅, with the correspondence law
𝑓(𝑣) = 𝑣𝑡 + 𝑑0. Calculate:
a) What is the distance between islands?
b) What distance would be between the islands
if the boat would have to travel at 47km / h?
c) What minimum speed could the ship have if
the islands were 100km away?
Soluție/Solution:
a) 𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅, 𝑓(𝑣) = 3,5𝑣 + 5
𝑣 = 36𝑘𝑚
ℎ⟹ 𝑓(36) = 36 ∙ 3,5 + 5 = 126 + 5 = 131 ⟹ 𝒇(𝟑𝟔) = 𝟏𝟑𝟏
b) 𝑣 = 47𝑘𝑚/ℎ 𝑓(47) = 47 ∙ 3,5 + 5 = 164,5 + 5 ⟹ 𝒇(𝟒𝟕) = 𝟏𝟔𝟗, 𝟓
c) 𝑓(𝑣) = 100 ⟹ 𝑓(𝑣) = 3,5𝑣 + 5 ⟹ 100 = 3,5𝑣 + 5 ⟹ 95 = 3,5v ⟹
𝑣 =950
35=

4. Volumul unui rezervor
Un rezervor are capacitatea de 1000 de l.
Robinetul are debitul de 320 l/h
a) Descrieți funcția care exprimă dependența
volumului de timp
b) Reprezentați grafic funcția.
c) Daca robinetul curge timp de 2 ore, câți litri de
apă se vor afla in rezervor?
d) In cat timp se umple rezervorul?
Soluție:
a) 𝑉(𝑡) = 𝐷 ∙ 𝑡, V-volum, D-debit (constant
420l/h), t-timp
Definim funcția: 𝑽: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝑽(𝒕) = 𝟑𝟐𝟎𝒕

dependence between time and volume
b) Represent the function graphically.
c) If the tap is flowing for 2h, how many liters
of water will be in the tank?
d) How long is the tank filling?
Solution:
a) 𝑉(𝑡) = 𝐷 ∙ 𝑡, V-volume, D-flow (constant
420l/h), t-time

𝑽: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝑽(𝒕) = 𝟑𝟐𝟎𝒕
b)
c) V(2)=640 (liters)
d) V(t) = 1000 ⟹ 320𝑡 = 1000 ⟹ 𝒕 = 𝟑. 𝟏𝟐𝟓

in cât timp o parcurge ?
Soluție:
Definim funcțiile distanță, respectiv preț:
𝑑: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, d(t)=60t
𝑝: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, 𝑝(𝑥) = 2𝑥 + 4
5. By Taxi
A taxi driver is charging 2 lei per km and 4
lei for the boarding. He is traveling with 60
km/h
a) How long does he take to drive 12 km and
what is the price?
b) If the price is 20 €, how much did he drive
and how much did it take?
Solution:
Let define the functions distance and price:
𝑑: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, d(t)=60t
𝑝: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, 𝑝(𝑥) = 2𝑥 + 4
a) d(t)=12⟹ 60𝑡 = 12 ⟹ 𝑡 =12
60=
1
5= 0.2 (ℎ) ⟹ 𝒕 = 𝟏𝟐 𝒎𝒊𝒏
𝑝(12) = 2 ∙ 12 + 4 = 28 ⟹ 𝒑(𝟏𝟐) = 𝟐𝟖 €
𝒑(𝟏𝟐) = 𝟐𝟎 ⟹ 2𝑥 + 4 = 20 ⟹ 2𝑥 = 16 ⟹ 𝒙 = 𝟖 𝒌𝒎
d(t)=8 ⟹ 60𝑡 = 8 ⟹ 𝑡 =8
60=
2
15 (ℎ) ⟹ 𝑡 =
2
15∙ 60 𝑚𝑖𝑛 = 8 ⟹ 𝒕 = 𝟖 𝒎𝒊𝒏.

𝒇: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝒙 + 𝟐𝟓𝟎 10
100∙ 200 = 20 (€) ⟹ plata lunara este:
200€ − 10€ = 180€
b) 𝑓(1) + 𝑓(2) + ⋯ + 𝑓(12) =
(200 + 250) + (2 ∙ 200 + 250) + ⋯+ (12 ∙ 200 + 250) == 200(1 + 2 + ⋯ + 12) + 12
∙ 250 =200 ∙ 12 ∙ 13
2+ 3000
= 15600 + 3000 = 𝟏𝟖𝟔𝟎𝟎 c) Funcția care descrie costurile, după ieftinire:
𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, 𝑓(𝑥) = 190𝑥 + 250
6. Renting an apartment
Renting an apartment has a start up lease of
250€ and after that, the monthly payment is
200€.
a) Determine the function that express the
price variation per month.
b) How much money will be totally paid in
one year?
c) If the lease runs down 10%, what value
does the function take?
Solution:
a) The function that describes the monthly
cost is 𝒇: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝒙 + 𝟐𝟓𝟎
The price increases with the amount of 10
100∙ 200 = 20 (€) ⟹ monthly payment is ∶
200€ − 10€ = 180€
b) 𝑆 = 𝑓(1) + 𝑓(2) + ⋯ + 𝑓(12) = (200 + 250) + (2 ∙ 200 + 250) + ⋯ +(12 ∙ 200 + 250)
= 200(1 + 2 + ⋯ + 12) + 12 ∙ 250
=200 ∙ 12 ∙ 13
2+ 3000 = 15600 + 3000
⟹ 𝑺 = 𝟏𝟖𝟔𝟎𝟎 c) The function that describes the monthly
cost, after cheapening
𝑓: 𝑅+ → 𝑅+, 𝑓(𝑥) = 190𝑥 + 250

7. Mobile phone companies
Two different mobile phone companies,
announced the final payment for the
subscription. The first one’s is about 10€
per month and it has 1000 minutes and
every overtaken minute means 30 cents
more to pay. The second one’s should be
paid 5€ per month for 200 included
minutes and talking is billed with 0,10
Euro.
a) Which of these companies have the most
efficient offer, for a needs of a person that
works in in business area?
b) Define the functions that express the cost
variation per number of minutes.
Soluție:
a) Funcția care descrie costul abonamentului
lunar este:
𝒇: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = {𝟏𝟎, 𝟎 ≤ 𝒙 ≤ 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎
𝟎. 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟏𝟎, 𝒙 > 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎
𝒈: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = {𝟓, 𝟎 ≤ 𝒙 ≤ 𝟐𝟎𝟎
𝟎. 𝟏𝒙 + 𝟓, 𝒙 > 𝟐𝟎𝟎
I. Plata lunară pentru un număr de
convorbiri cuprins între 1000 și 10000
este:
𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 ≤ 𝒙 ≤ 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎 ⟹ 300 ≤ 0.3𝑥 ≤ 3000⟹ 310 ≤ 0.3𝑥 + 10 ≤ 3010⟹ 𝑓(𝑥) ∈ [310; 3010]
II. Plata lunară pentru un număr de
convorbiri cuprins între 1000 și 10000
este:
𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 ≤ 𝒙 ≤ 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎 ⟹ 100 ≤ 0.1𝑥 ≤ 1000⟹ 105 ≤ 0.1𝑥 + 5 ≤ 1005⟹ 𝑔(𝑥) ∈ [105; 1005]
The second companies have the most efficient
offer anyway.

𝑡0 = 0𝑠. Să se determine:
a. Reprezentarea grafică a coordonatelor (𝑥, 𝑡)
legilor de mișcare ale mobilelor;
unde se întâlnesc;
Soluție:
a. Pentru a reprezenta grafic legile de mișcare
alegem 2 valori distincte pentru timpul t:
- pentru mobilul 1: 𝑡0 = 0 ⇒ 𝑥01 = 0 și când 𝑡1 = 1𝑠 ⇒ 𝑥1 = 3𝑠;
𝒇: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝟑𝒙
- pentru mobilul 2: 𝑡0 = 0 ⇒ 𝑥02 =10𝑚 și cand 𝑡2 = 5𝑠 ⇒ 𝑥2 = 0𝑚;
𝒈: 𝑹+ → 𝑹+, 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝟏𝟎 − 𝟐𝒙
𝑥1(𝑡) = 𝑥2(𝑡)⇒3𝑡 = 10 − 2𝑡 ⇒ 𝒕 = 𝟐𝒔.
Mobilele se întâlnesc dupa 2 secunde, când
coordonata timpului este 𝑥1 = 6𝑚
8. Two mobiles
The rectile movement of two mobiles are
described by the motions laws 𝑥1 = 3𝑡 and
𝑥2 = 10 − 2𝑡 where 𝑥 is expressed in
meters and 𝑡 in seconds. The mobiles start
at the same time 𝑡0 = 0𝑠. Find out:
a. The graphical representation of the
coordinates (𝑥, 𝑡) of the movable laws of
the mobile;
b. The time and the place where the two
mobiles meet;
Solution:
To represent the motion laws we
choose 2 distinct values for time t:
- for mobile 1: 𝑡0 = 0 ⇒ 𝑥01 = 0 and when 𝑡1 = 1𝑠 ⇒ 𝑥1 =3𝑠;
- for mobile 2: : 𝑡0 = 0 ⇒ 𝑥02 =10𝑚 and when 𝑡2 = 5𝑠 ⇒ 𝑥2 = 0𝑚;
For the mobiles to meet, the two
coordinates must be equal, 𝑥1(𝑡) =𝑥2(𝑡) ⇒
3𝑡 = 10 − 2𝑡 ⇒ 𝒕 = 𝟐𝒔;
Mobiles meet after 2 s, when the time
coordinate 𝑥1 = 6𝑚
