Intermediate GL-SD02Monitoring glaucoma progression based on structural andfunctional changes available from perimtery and imaging of thedisc and the nerve ber layer is crucial in objectively determiningtreatment algorithms, but is also vital to correlate with overallclinical features before one decides to step up the treatmentalgorithm, carefully attempting to balance the adverse outcomesof aggressive treatment, quality of life outcomes as well as benetsof aggressively lowering IOP. The forum also seeks to address thecrucial aspects of patient oriented glaucoma association.

Topics such as Femto vs mechanicalap creation, surface vs LASIK surgery, whats the best phakicIOL to use and much more will be featured. Experts will be askedto take, and justify, a point of view to highlight the controversieswithin corneal and lens refractive surgery. It should make for anentertaining and instructive session.

RANzCO smposium: the management of retinal veinocclusions -- there is more to it than ust mindless repetitiveanti VEGF inections MS-SS11The extraordinary effectiveness of anti VEGFs in resolving macularswelling and improving visual acuity in retinal vein occlusion gives

the impression that it is actually a treatment for the problem. AntiVEGFs maintain macular integrity whilst the vein occlusion isreversed by recanalization, opening of bypass channels or madeless critical by a reduction of retinal volume needing to be drained.

After classi fying the vein occlusion according to site , severityand causality, treatment strategies can be made .This symposiumoutlines the use of a number of treatments(with level 1/2 evidence)in conjunction with anti VEGF therapy in this condition.10:00 - 11:20 Venue: Hall 16, HICCChair(s): PaulBEAUMONT, Nitin VERMA10:00 Why You Must Look At the Site of Occlusion

Glaucoma patient issues MS-SS09The glaucoma patient of today has entirely different needs thanthose in the past. They want to take charge of their care andshould be encouraged to do so. These patients are seeking farmore information and support than that requested by those whopreceded them. This symposium attempts to help the doctorsunderstand this situation. The psychological aspects of thedisease are addressed. Support mechanisms such as supportgroups, resources available globally and quality of life issues arediscussed. Retinal and optic nerve imaging in glaucoma OI-SS03This symposium will focus on use of new technology for diagnosis

of glaucoma based on changes in the retinal nerve ber layer(RNFL) and optic nerve head (ONH). The symposium will includehigh resolution imaging of the lamina cribrosa, choroid, retinalganglion cell complex, optic disc and RNFL and detail the earlychanges seen in glaucoma patients, diagnosis of progression andhow to differentiate changes produced by glaucoma from myopia.

A combined index of using results of both structure and functionto predict the loss of retinal ganglion cells will be introduced alongwith pearls of imaging and current limitations.

Neuroimaging in glaucoma OI-SS02Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease of the visual system. This more recent perspective on the disease has shifted ourattention from the eye, to brain changes in glaucoma, and hasfueled the desire to see the brain in glaucoma. Brain changesin experimental and human glaucoma will be reviewed, in

addition to the latest ndings visualized by state of the art modernneuroimaging techniques. Opportunities to exploit neuroimagingndings to further our understanding and treatment of glaucomawill also be presented.

Trauma to a childs ee - give him our best! PO-IC02

Trauma to a Childs eye is one of the most challenging situations inophthalmic practice. Timely decisions and judicious intervention goa long way in salvaging the vision. Here we deal with the practicalaspects of Pediatric Eye Injury. Since only 25% of the patientspresent within 6 hours of injury and 35% present more than 24hours later, these decisions very crucial. Proper technique of thesurgery may go a long way in restoring vision of the child, andalso would make the subsequent surgery easier. Next comes thesecondary repair after assessing the damage to the anterior andposterior segment and timing of the second surgery.14:30 - 15:50 Venue: Ball room, Novotel
