Questions to Ask Yourself…

Why do I want to take AP Calculus? What do I expect to get out of the class? What kind of effort do I intend to put into the

class? What are my goals after high school? How does AP Calculus fit in with those

goals? How will this class fit in with my other classes

and obligations (sports, work, etc.)?

Questions I Asked Former AP Calculus Students

1. What were the 3 biggest reasons you passed or did not pass the AP Calc Exam?

2. What benefits or setbacks have you experienced as a result of passing or not passing the AP Calc Exam?

3. If you could do it all over again would you change anything

Why did you pass or not pass the AP Calculus Exam?

I made sure to understand why I was doing something instead of simply when to do it. That's probably the most important thing students need to know.

Relaxed learning environment. (Work isn't shoved down your throat, especially if you understand the material well in the first place.)

Why did you pass or not pass the AP Calculus Exam?

It’s a lot of crap to learn over the whole year. I guess I just learned what we were doing at the time then would forget later on.

The biggest reason I didn't pass was because I understood bits and pieces of everything but not everything as a whole.

I should have definitely reviewed more along the way.

Benefits/Setbacks as a result of Passing/not passing

I'm sitting at freshman orientation right now with four more hours of credit than I would have had otherwise. (Georgia Tech)

I've exempted Math 1001, Math 1113, and Math 2250. I earned 4 credit hours for 2250, and have the possibility of earning three more hours for math 1113 after taking a test in the fall. (UGA)

Benefits/Setbacks as a result of Passing/not passing

I have to take algebra in college. (GSU) I had to take the math placement test and it

was almost all algebra. I tested into Pre-Calculus. (UGA)

I had to take a math placement test. Talk about failtacular. I got the basic math. If I had passed the AP Calc Exam then I wouldn't have had to take it. (UGA)

If you could do it all over again would you change anything?

I would have probably asked more questions, taken more notes, and reviewed more often.

I would have changed my study methods earlier.

I would have changed my preparation method and would have not have worried myself as bad about it.

Wouldn't worry so much. Would study harder for the Exam.

If you could do it all over again would you change anything?

I loved your class, so I wouldn’t want to change anything. The Calculus I learned definitely gave me a backbone in college.

I wish I would have put more into it and taken more time to get help or something. I would have LOVED to have been able to skip the class in college. I will say though that I did learn things in your class, because when I took it in college I dominated.

If you could do it all over again would you change anything?

I have no regrets about my AP Calc experience because it actually ended up being the first math class that I found truly interesting.

All the algebra practice really helped improve my SAT score!

YES! I would actually take time to study, review, ask more questions, and take it more seriously.
