“WELCOME, HOLY SPIRIT”
Prelude
Welcome
Opening Prayer
Songs - “Holy, Holy, Holy”, “Holy Spirit”
Litany:
We meet in the strong name of our God;
We praise you Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We come before you today confessing the truth;
We are sinners needing your grace.
We are broken, wounded souls;
We need your healing mercy and love.
Create in us clean hearts, O God.
Renew our lives in the power of your Spirit.
Do not cast us away from your Presence;
Do not remove your Spirit from us.
Restore to us the joy of our salvation;
Fill us with the Spirit of your love. Amen.
Prayer of the Day:
O God, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Show us the truth of our sin.
Continue to call us back to yourself. Stir within us the gift of faith in Jesus alone.
Forgive our sin, and pour your love and power into our hearts. Use us as your
witnesses, so that all people will know your love and grace. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Lesson - Acts 2:1-21
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a
sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house
where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated
and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. 5 Now there were staying
in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard
this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their
own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are
speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native
language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and
Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya
near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and
Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed
and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” 13 Some, however,
made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.” 14 Then Peter stood up
with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you
who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These
people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what
was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit
on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will
pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the
heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the
great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved.’
Gospel - John 14:16-20
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be
with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither
sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I
will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see
me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you
will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

Thanks to everyone for helping to make our shipment of quilts and kits to the Lutheran
World Relief warehouse in Minneapolis such a success! We shipped 35 boxes of items
that weighed 904 pounds. We were able to donate 37 quilts, 163 school kits, 175
personal care kits, and 19 baby care kits for a total of 394 items! Thanks to all
the members of Faith who have worked together to bless others around the
world. Special thanks to Larry & Shirley Nelson and Bruce & Gayle Simons for loading
all the boxes into Nelson's suburban and also to Stephen Zitterich and Troy McKenney
for helping them unload our shipment onto the truck on Saturday. On Wednesday,
May 25, at 10:00, we'll meet again for another day of sewing and assembling kits for
Lutheran World Relief. If you have time, please join us. We can always use light
