Thank You’s As the 2018 school year comes to a close, I would like to start by wishing every member of our school community a very relaxing and enjoyable festive season and holiday break. I hope that during this period you get to slow things down and spend some quality time with your family and friends.

This year has certainly been an interesting and eventful year at our school with the following changes taking place. New roofing work and two demountables; Miss Thomas leaving to head north and Miss Pollard taking over the Year 4-5 class; Mrs Burns leaving and Miss Verschelden taking over Year 2; Mr Tape taking over from Mr Cox as our new General Assistant; Mrs Carpenter taking leave, with Mrs King filling in her role in the Office; Steve Cass leaving us, with Matt King joining us as an SLSO and then leaving us; our new school cleaner Tony Stibbard being appointed to our school; Mr Cook on long service leave and then extending his leave; Mrs Peach and Mrs Arentsen being appointed as permanent teachers at BPS as well as the new teacher appointment of Miss Eliza Barnett and the appointment of a second Assistant Principal (Mr Small), just to highlight some things!

Then we move on to our extremely hard working P&C who have funded many things throughout our school, including the new Smartboard panels in three of our classrooms; the new vegetable garden beds that have been gradually erected around the school grounds and we can’t forget the recent dedication of our ‘Verna Wallace Library’. There are far too many projects to mention that our P&C have taken on throughout the school this year, but I would like to thank every member of the 2018 P&C, and particularly its dedicated executive committee, on behalf of all of the staff and students for their time, effort, hard-work, dedication and support.

There are many people I would like to thank for their continued work and support of our school: Mrs Verna Wallace who has continued to volunteer her time each week doing many duties to assist our teachers and staff. Thank you for another year of your time, dedication and support Verna!

We thank our wonderfully talented canteen supervisor, Suzie Collins and her band of volunteers who have provided our students and staff with professional service and delicious snacks and lunches in our school canteen. I would especially like to thank Suzie for her years of service as our Canteen Supervisor (and dance costume creator!), and we wish her well for 2019 as she hands her role over to a new Supervisor.

We thank Noel Tape for overseeing the Friday Fundraising Canteen each Friday, as well as Mrs Peach and the Year 6 Parliament Leaders who assisted with the running of this.

We thank our dedicated Scripture and Ethics teachers and Co-ordinators, as well as our BOOSH staff and Co-ordinator Sharon Palmer, for their ongoing support of our students.

Thank you to the increasing number of classroom, canteen, reading, sporting and excursion helpers and community members who have assisted in major and minor ways throughout the year. Your support is invaluable and has served to create the wonderful, warm learning environment that we are proud to provide for our students.

We extend our best wishes and thanks to Mrs Joanne Hansard who is leaving us next year due to a permanent appointment at Wauchope PS as well as Miss Verschelden and Miss Wright who are also leaving us for other ventures in 2019. Finally, we wish Mrs Arentsen, who is commencing her maternity leave in 2019, all the best as she and her husband await the safe arrival of their second child. I sincerely thank each of these teachers for their enthusiasm and dedication to our school and our students.

On a personal note, I would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing people that I have been fortunate enough to be working side by side with throughout 2018; Mrs Rose Reid, whom I could not have survived my new role without; my incredibly professional and supportive leadership team; Mrs Clayworth and Mrs Peach; the wonderful, dedicated teachers that I am extremely proud to call colleagues and friends; our wonderful support staff: Melissa King, Madison Auld, Sharon Palmer, Jaime Tickle, Steve Cass, Matt King, Noel Tape and Tony Stibbard; and a small band of P&C members who have provided me with invaluable support, advice and encouragement in the times that I have needed it the most this year.

Thank you for another year of high quality education at Beechwood Public School.

Well done everybody!

Christmas Event

Science Fair Thank you to all students, staff and parents for making the Science Fair such a success. The rooms all looked fabulous with the students display boards that were presented. The judges had a very hard job deciding the winners. The students enjoyed presenting and viewing other student’s displays as well. I was impressed with the pride shown in their work and the information they shared about their testable question.

Congratulations to Sienna Monk and Skye Orcher, our overall winners with their question, “Under what colour light do plants grow best?”
