“The soul is healed by being with children.”
- Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Russian Novelist)
The quote above speaks volumes for each member of the team as we know that deep
inside our souls are healed when little feet enter the yellow gate and our lives every day!
This month we celebrated quite a few events, and each one revolved around the core values
that form such an important part of our institution – love, empathy, discipline and respect. All the
celebrations encapsulated the fact that these values extend beyond the realms of the school
and permeate much deeper, as every member who forms a part of our small family absorbs
these values and carries it with them wherever they go.
Valentine’s Day Celebrations
February is the month of love and to teach our children the deeper meaning of this beautiful
word we organized various activities throughout the week. On the 14th we decorated the school
with heart-shaped balloons, created a space where the little ones could sit and pose for pictures
and spoke to them about love. The children made several things for their parents and gave
them these handmade gifts of appreciation at the end of the day. The look on the loved ones
eyes when they received these little tokens was priceless!
Leadership Summit
In order to teach children the depth of words like empathy, love, discipline and respect; you not
only have to emulate it but it should become a part of the everyday lives of the learners so that
they absorb the true essence of these words. Children that think globally and act locally need to
be nurtured and at our centre we focus on this and showcase their learning during the
Leadership Summit. This year our learners not only filled their leadership files with reflection
sheets but also spoke about their understanding of the term – Leadership. Our Prep 1 learners
also tried to do their bit for our bhaiya’s and didi’s by collecting money by selling lemonade,
cookies and plants. The money collected will be used to buy their children goodies!
Learning in the Classroom
Our Nursery learners were introduced to the letter – T through a very interesting activity that
included making their own tea. The little ones listened to Ms. Sabah with rapt attention as she
spoke about the tea-pot and tea bags. It was interesting to note how easily they understood how
to make some yummy tea, under the supervision of the teacher. Other activities that helped
reinforce the concept was done once this activity was completed.
Incursion in Pre-Nursery
“Roles and responsibilities” might be something that we feel 2 year olds are too young to
understand, but when Jyoti didi came demonstrated what roles and responsibilities are it was a
pleasant surprise to see our Pre-nursery learners observe her and learn so much. The role play
by the teachers was something else that they watched with rapt attention! Once all this was over
the little ones helped didi with her chores, and continue to be responsible learners in the
classroom and at home.
Visit to “The Music Box”
Located in Koregaon Park, The Music Box is a place our children loved visiting. This month it
was the turn of our Prep 1 children who enjoyed every moment spent in the confines of this
beautiful place. Once there they got an opportunity to try their hand at different musical
instruments and sat in the audience and listened to the musician as he played the flute, the
piano and the violin for our little ones. They played in the courtyard and ate yummy goodies,
thoroughly loving the experience and learning so much from it!
Holi Celebrations
The vibrant colors of life add meaning to our existence and that is why “Holi” the festival of
colors is celebrated with much fervor in India. This year, we celebrated Holi by decorating the
school with colorful dupattas and rangolis. The younger children spent time throwing petals on
each other while the older ones played Holi with organic colors. At the end of the day the
children were happier, wiser and more knowledgeable about Indian culture.
Thank you for your love and cooperation. Looking forward to seeing you on Indus Day which is
scheduled to be held on the 10th of March 2018.
Warm Regards,
Rachna
