Happy New Year Ya’ll, I hope everyone has had wonderful holidays! Here in the South we do know how to celebrate our Christian and Southern heritage with family and friends. Personally I was so honored to attend Christmas parties with 4 camps/chapters finer family cannot be found! The picture below from the Christmas party at the Cumberland Mtn. State Park, the Sgt. Hamby Camp and Roses of the Cumberlands OCR Chapter invited everyone this picture does not include everyone attending but I believe there were 4 OCR chapters and 4 SCV camps who were there enjoying one anothers company. But with the holiday festivities behind us it is time to move forward in the Cause honoring our heritage and ancestors. Coming up will be many Lee-Jackson banquets and chances to further the Cause. Ya’ll know I will be at many of them! Keep in mind the TN Division SCV Reunion/ TNSOCR state will be in Tracy City this April , applications will go out soon. The apps. for national SCV/OCR this July can be found on our website. We need ditty bag items for both. Please remember OCR is on a calendar year so it’s dues time again. Vonda Dixon, Pres. Aunt Polly Eaton Williams Chapter #10, Gainesboro

As you know we meet with our SCV camp in the even months and host the meeting as well as provide supper. In October Matt McClanahan, past commander of the Sgt. Hamby Camp, was our guest speaker bringing a program on the War in the Cumberlands – we had 25 people – the largest attendance ever! A delicious supper was provided by Thorn Ray Myers. November we added a meeting making it our first annual Confederate Thanksgiving. We added 2 new members Sue and Rick Pritchard that night as well. December we voted to attend the dinner theatre in Granville where a dozen of us thoroughly enjoyed a great supper and a Mayberry Christmas program. OK it wasn’t Confederate but the fellowship was! Susan and Vonda each presented 2 programs for area SCV camp meetings. I was able to participate in the Southern Heritage Festival and docent at Elm Springs during Maury County Christmas Parade of Homes. I joined other SCV and OCR members in the Death March from Winstead Hill into Franklin. And joined an artillery crew as a soldier at the Battle of Camp Wildcat in Kentucky. Cynthia Holford Officer Chapter #18, Livingston

October began with a return to one of my favorite places, Huntersville, WV, for their annual

Huntersville Traditions festival. Vonda found Huntersville while tracking down an ancestor in

the 8th TN, and we were at the first dedication of the Huntersville Confederate Cemetery. While

I missed going a couple of years due to health issues, it was like I'd never been away and a

wonderful homecoming with some of my very favorite people! We stayed at the Carriage

House Inn with the "usual" cast of characters -- Al Stone a/k/a Gen. Robert E. Lee, Jeannie

Dunham (innkeeper extraordinaire) -- and with a new face this year, an author that portrays

Lincoln's bodyguard! Now, there is a thankless job! I led a "ghost walk" around Huntersville

and to the Confederate cemetery that didn't find many ghosties, no doubt due to the legions of

noisy kids in tow. Saturday we rode in the wagon with the casket to the memorial service at the

Confederate cemetery for the newly marked graves of Southern heroes. Already planning to be

back next year!

On Thanksgiving weekend, I was privileged to participate in the memorial for the ancestor of a

compatriot in the Mech Cav Camp with the Dillard-Judd Camp. On Dec. 1st, Larry Gunnels and

I attended the Christmas dinner play in Granville with the Gainesboro Invincibles and APEW

#10. And I rounded out December with Christmas parties at the Gen. G.G. Dibrell Camp and

Dibrell's White Roses #11 in Sparta, and the Hamby Camp and Roses of the Cumberland #1 at

Cumberland Mountain State Park. God Bless us everyone and God Bless Dixie!

Jane Simmons Davis Chapter #6, Murfreesboro

Hello to everyone! It is with great pleasure to write to you all as the new president of our

chapter. I am very excited to see what is to happen within the coming years, and I know I

can do it all with the help of some incredible people! We’ve had a few events in the past

month. In the beginning of December, our chapter participated in the annual Eagleville

and Murfreesboro Christmas parades which are always a blast to attend. Following the

Eagleville parade was a Christmas dinner we put on along with Camp #33. In our

December meeting, we were pleased to welcome our new member; Alice Gibson! I know

this seems short and simple, but as the new year begins I hope to be able to share more of

all other things to come. God bless you all!

Oct. 28 & 29 Debbie Erickson and Lou Shaw were camping close to home with the 19th Alabama Civilian Corp at Paris Landing. It is a beautiful setting next to the Land Between the Lakes with the river close by. Nov. 4 & 5 Debbie was at Eva Beach at the Nathan Bedford State Park and on Nov. 11 & 12 Debbie attended the Elm Springs Heritage Days in Columbia. Jan Hensley, President

Dec. 10 our OCR chapter members,

Margie Potts, Debbie Erickson, Jan

Hensley and Chare Gray (not in the

picture was Casey Blankenship and Lou

Shaw) attended a monument dedication

for Capt. Luther Knox Gillespie in

Humboldt. Charlotte and Margie placed

wreaths by the headstone and Jerry Gray

and John Abernathy fired one of the

cannons.

Of course on Dec. 15 which was one of the

coldest days of the year and a Civil War Trails

marker was dedicated in McKenzie. The hardy

souls attending this event were Charlotte and

Jerry Gray, John Abernathy and Jan Hensley.

They fired 3 volleys from the cannon. Look at

the cannon real close because Jerry made that

himself. He is amazing at making things.

Antoinette Polk Chapter #20, Columbia

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I would like to share a few events that Antoinette Polk Chapter 20 participated in this past quarter. First our chapter had the honor of purchasing a 20 ft. flag pole for the Summertown Memorial Park. In October members Kortney, Dottie, Beth, Tom, and (myself) Mary gave tours and participated with others at the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Confederate Museum. In November our chapter participated in the Southern Heritage Festival at Elm Springs. We had a booth set up and gave tours of the house for the event. On November 27th we marched from Winstead Hill to the Carter house in memory of the Battle of Franklin. In December members of our Chapter gave tours at Elm Springs for the Maury Co. Tour of Homes. Beth and Paula also attended the annual Confederate Christmas Ball in Columbia. It has been a wonderful year for our chapter, and we are looking for to a exciting new 2017. Happy New Year everyone! Susan McKissack Cheairs Chapter #22, Spring Hill

The Susan McKissack Cheairs chapter had a busy few months!

October was the “Vines and Vintage” event at Rippavilla Plantation. Members dressed for 1864

and 1920 to treat guests to local history and lore.

November brought Heritage Days at Campbellsville and Elm Springs and a plaque dedication, also

at Elm Springs. November 27th was The yearly candlelight Anniversary of the Battle of Spring Hill.

The first weekend of December was the Maury County Historic Home Tour. Members helped to

decorate Elm Springs and Rippavilla Plantations the week prior. Members donned period dress at

Rippavilla Plantation and the Polk home. At Rippavilla, members created a Christmas tree

featuring pictures of the Cheairs family and other owners of the plantation through the years.

Dibrell’s White Roses Chapter #13, Sparta

In October, our SCV and OCR Chapters set up up a booth in celebration of Sparta's Liberty Square Celebration and gave out information on our beloved Confederacy as well as our non-profit organizations and sold food and non-food items to help our coffers. In our local Veterans Parade on November, many joined our local SCV unit marching from our local high school to the Veterans' Memorial Park and on to the Old Sparta City Cemetery, where Brigadier General George Gibbs Dibrell is buried.

Our Annual SCV/OCR Christmas Celebration was held Tuesday, December 6 that 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the White County Public Library. We had a blast and were so thankful for our guests and for our many, many blessings! Mr. Ed Butler presented an extremely interesting look back at our Southern history and the effects of the Civil War on our ancestors and how very much it changed their lives for many, many years before and after the war. At the end of his presentation, we were given literature gleaned from his many years of research, which begins interestingly enough, “Southerners in the First American Revolution.” If you get a chance, his material is well worth reading and comes complete with references for further research.
